Use any animal marrow (including bonemeal and antlers) as a light 60-70 protein base for soups. Since it is just adding an ingredient for soup as a recipe option, it should be compatible with most food-related mods. Also compatible with Hydrate or Diedrate.
Thanks to TaimatCompany's BasicBushcraft for the idea of using bone as a base for soup broth instead of veggie-only, as well as code snippet base to get me started.
Thanks to Nico_Nico_Nyx for the suggestion to make a standalone bone broth soup mod, and for bouncing ideas around. If you want bone broth liquid portion you can use to replace water in soups, check out their new mod Bone Broth as well. They are compatible, but the recipes can look a little funny when they're combined. ;)
so i put bone broth in ur bone broth so you can—

Known Issues:
- Marrow-only broth is invisible in containers unless you have Hydrate or Diedrate installed. I have no idea why. fixed with v1.0.1
Future updates:
- make it so large antlers give higher protein amount when used as soup base (based on how many bonemeal it can be ground into)
Here are some other mods I've used to fill the culinary hole Expanded Foods has left:
- Variations on a Meal - allows for all kinds of sensical mix and matches foods, including "Milk and wine/cider/ale can be used as liquid base for soup with appropriate nutrition."
- Vinegar Portion Only - derivative of Expanded Foods I made to get EF vinegar recipes back
- Egg Pie (Quiche) - Adds egg pie as an option and allows eggs to be used in meat pie
- Bushmeat Recipe - allows the addition of bushmeat to soups, stews, and pies
- Basic Bushcraft - allows bushmeat (raw and salted) and cooked meats to be added to soups and stews, as well as bone broth in the form of bone for soup base instead of vegetable-only. However this mod also has a lot of other things going on so I made this standalone bone broth soup option.
Update v1.0.1:
- Fixed invisible soup
- Rebalanced protein nutrition value for all bones (they were all 50 before).
- Regular bone is now worth 70 protein
- Bone-tiny is now worth 60 protein.
- Bonemeal is now worth 65 protein.
- Antlers default to worth 60 protein.

Initial upload to allow use of bones and antlers as a base for soup. There are known visual issues. | ||||||
Atsumachi that would be fairly simple to implement and reasonably within the scope of this mod, so I'll think about it!
Perfect mod, I always wondered why this wasn't in the base game. Would it be possible to also add fat as an optional ingredient? Usually bones used for bone broth would have some connective tissue, meat, and fat on them and since you can add meat to your soup, being able to also add fat would be a nice addition. It's not 100% necessary or anything, just a thought I had.
Ruyeex adding a whole new food nutrition category is definitely outside the scope of this mod haha. Trying to keep it simple. I will think about how to potentially add bonemeal as an ingredient for non-soup foods, but whole bones doesn't make any sense to me to put in porridge or scrambled eggs. Most uses of bones to my knowledge involve high water content to soak and soften them to be edible, or are there for flavor and completely removed before consumption of the dish.
That's neat but bones can be used on stews (vegetable and meat), porridge, scrambled eggs which bones can be it's own category as it's a fat ingredient for meals which lump of fat can also be used as a replacement.
But the struggle is to create a seperate category of fat type meals.
Otherwise I like the mod direction.
Thank you so much for making this mod, I really missed using bones to make soups.
And for everyone else reading this, I recommend Long-term Food if you’re looking for extra food preservation recipes.
