Crawl & Dive

Covering 1x1 gaps with style!

 

This mod adds a Crawl button (Z by default):

 

And a dive to slide mechanic:

Sprinting and pressing Z will make you dive instead of crawling.

Diving can be used to enter 1x1 gaps quicker, this is very helpful when being chased by something.

You also go automatically to Crawling after a slide.

 

The diving is also very useful to cover more ground in hard jumps:

You can Dive in the air! This gives you a tiny boost!

Keep in mind that you'll slide in the direction you first dived, not the direction you're facing.

I think we discovered a bug involving butchery and crawl and dive... When the bag is full of enough items, your speed goes below 0% when crawling and prevents you from playing the game, instant crash.
Temp fix is to log in on ladders... so you can empty the bags and get above 0% speed.

 

System.ArithmeticException: Function does not accept floating point Not-a-Number values.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of this mod.

Is it possible to add a hold to crawl key? If so, would it then be possible to make the dive animation transition on end to either slide (if still held) or roll (if not held)?

 

Between vault & roll and this it is kinda possible to sprint -> dive -> roll -> sprint but it requires very tight timing of a bunch of button presses so isn't practical to actually use (unless I'm missing something)

annoying thing, the player character constantly stands up for a split second while crawling, it doesnt affect movement or make you stop crawling but the animation is annoying and ruins immersion

don't know if it's just me, but newest update crashes my world and i have to run it in repair mode with the previous version of the mod to fix it.

hey just a heads up. sometimes when i open a world my movement is cut in half when this mod is downloaded. I think the game is reading i am crouching when im not, and then it doesnt fix it until i crawl

currently, diving lets you cancel out all the damage. In case you press Z right before landing. Height doesn't matter at all
i can post link to a video if needed. Cuz this should be fixed, w this bug there's no point in vault and roll mod

I have a friend that uses controller, is there a way for there to be a compatibility option of pressing shift twice in a row to start crawling at least? I would greatly appreciate it, and so would they!

I love having this mod installed, but my muscle memory tells me to hold the button as I crawl like I do in Minecraft. Is there any possibility you could add an option to hold the crawl button instead of toggling it?

Definitely seconding this. A crawl-only version, or configurable in that way, with the limiting movement features mentioned would a great QoL addition to the base game. Would this work server-side too? You do great work btw, SaltyWater.

visually incompatible w/ combat overhaul, holding any weapons plus tools with the addon mod, the hand model will move up a lot when diving/crawling.

Finally a good crawl mod! Here are some improvement ideas:
- be able to turn off diving
- be unable to turn around whilst crawling in a 1-wide space (currently your legs/head just clip into the wall on either side and you can turn around)
- be able to turn off the ability to "jump" whilst crawling
- be able to turn off tool use whilst crawling (it's not realistic to swing a pickaxe etc. whilst prone)

Abra_The_Cadabra that'd be on my end.  If the mod works in vanilla but not w/ the kobold mod it's the kobold mod's fault 99% of the time.

 

edit: did some testing, it appears this happens on all models when scaled to ~50% with player model lib.  It'll be on either Salty or Maltiez to patch one another's mod or for one to add compatibility with the other.  Sorry!

Not sure if this is on this mods end or not, but when used with the Kobold race, and their model size set to 50%, when you crawl your camera goes beneath the map. Is there anyway to fix this? If not no worries.

if you jump from a high distance, then hold down shift and z at the same time, you can fly for miles across the land! it seems the higher you jump from the further you go

Just typed in "Crawl" in the mod search bar only to find you went and made yet another peak mod and only just a DAY ago!

It does exactly what I need and even a little more thank you so much for all the content you're making for us.

If I can I'm defintely going to dig vientam style tunnels and die in a cave-ins with this.

I'd love if there was some way to decrease your detection radius for mobs while crouching. Would be really funny shuffling by a pack of wolves in the long grass on your hands and knees like this.

I've tried to post comment with picture multiple times but didnt worked... ANYWAY i will repeat myself for third time.

When you Dive, and while Diving hold ONLY "Sprint" + "Crawl" Buttons, your character will bounce around in Diving pose... this looks ridiculous, its really funny xD

But it's bug either way, so you might want to look into it.

Credits to my friend who found out about this... and started jumping around like this EVERYWHERE making me think I'm living with a rat...

EDIT: Jumping like this gives you speed boost in certain scenarios, similar to Bunny Hop, which is cool, but the way it looks is not as cool😅

Epic! I remember when I played Minecraft on the 1.7.10 there was this mod called SmartMovement. Your Movement series reminds me of that one, it's a compliment 'cause I've never seen another mod that made the movement have this depth before! Keep up the good work! :D

Yeah i'm playing around with the mod and hasn't decided yet about a cooldown.. I like being able to spam diving! But I'll probably add to make it a little more realistic!

 

Also yes, jumping in crawling mode is intended!

hey love the mod but found maybe something unintended. Holding sprint and spamming dive allows you to move much faster than sprint it seems. Maybe you would like to keep this in and thats fine but maybe an option to add a cooldown would be nice. also jumping in crawl mode might also be unintened, looks a bit funny

Hey! Just an update on the whole being unable to dive thing, turns out it's cause you need sprint toggle on becausing trying to dive while holding ctrl to sprint doesn't work.

Few things to tweak:

You can Dive jump to Water and your character will "crawl" under water with Swimming animation but no actual animation xD (also when leaving water, camera can bug and stay in crawling postion, but crawling again and standing up fixes issue)

 

You can Sneak while crawling... which looks, well, very disturbing...


When you die while doing Dive Jump, you will spawn crawling and this results your character camera being stuck in blocks until you stand up


That's it for now, I guess u know about them already.

But I got question, are you planning to add Combat Roll as part of Dive Jump or seperate mechanic which will allows you to not take damage from higher heights?

Im not sure if its a Version disparity or some other mod conflict but i cant get the mod to work doesnt work, granted im trying to use it on 1.20.5, though notably the catch ledge wich is also for 1.21 works fine.

Yeah not sure if you as the Modauthor are even interested or how much effort it would be, but making a backport but it would be pretty nice

EDIT: Funcionality works, first person animations from CO do not move downward for the crawl, meaning your hands (while holding a CO weapon) are in the air above you

i am unshure if its just me or some odd mod interraction, but there seems ot be some odd behaviour if you sprint dive into the water. I get stuck in the dive animation in  the water and once i hit a block i get flung backwards saying i cant crawl in water after which nomral swimming animations resume but my camera gets stuck below my character and stays at crawl height even when i get back on land until i crawl and stand back up.

Not sure if you prefer bugs here or on the VS discord server but I noticed diving into water incites some strange behaviour. 1) while swimming it shows hands in face as if crawling (no animation just stagnant) 2) when you touch the bottom of a water source you then are thrown ~5 blocks and given "cannot swim while crawling" popup 3) and then when you return to land your player model appears normal height, but your 1st person camera is at crawling height and you can fit through 1x1 gaps. I know this mod is brand new so thank you for always adding such cool features to the game!

I left crawling in air specifically for that!

Using the upward jump from catch ledge then quickly crawling in air will make you fit into the 1 hole gap above your ledge!

This was intentional! I wanted something rewarding but hard to master! 😆

Ah, figured it was an upcoming feature, being able to climb into holes when having both mods.  Would make caving a little nicer to manuver about in tight spaces.

Awesome.  Tested it with Kemono for you.  Mechanically works just fine.
Can't climb into 1 block holes through ledge catching's climb yet.
