Wind modes are a little janky on crops right now for game version 1.21.1. This will be fixed in my next content update v1.4.0.

Big thanks to Parf for his work on beautifying and fixing the cropping on the new mod icon!

Tired of searching around for limestone hours on end to no avail?

Bought some cloth from that sketchy guy in a wooden caravan and want to make sure it's clean?

Then you've come to the right place! Introducing SOAP the vintage world's number one cleanser!

Looking for something simpler? This version of the mod will grow overtime as I add more content, but I've also released a basic version with the bare minimum items! Perfect for worlds that already have lots of large content mods! Link: https://news.kalataka.ru/show/mod/27553

Features:

📖Guide book:

  • An in-game handbook page specifically dedicated to teaching you all about the mod and how to get started! Just search for soap!
  • Now with linking text that takes you right to the new blocks and items!
Spoiler!
image

🪵Wood ash:

  • Can be made from burning any logs with hard woods yielding more product.
  • Mix with water in a barrel to produce liquid lye.
Spoiler!
image

🫙Lye (liquid):

  • Used as a suppliment for limewater when soaking hides.
  • Main ingredient for making lye soap bars.
Spoiler!
image

🧼Soap bars:

  • The base of all soaps and only requires some fat/shea butter and lye in a barrel.
  • Lye soap bars are made first and can be used to produce liquid lye soap or scented by adding various flower/herb oils or honey.
  • Soap bars can be stacked in piles on the ground holding 72 bars per block space.
Spoiler!
imageimage

🧴Liquid soap:

  • Primarily used for removing mordant from cloth, dyes from cloth & leather, and to clean out dirty cooking pots.
  • Scented soaps are worth the extra steps to craft as they can clean/remove dye for half the cost as plain liquid lye soap!
Spoiler!
image

🩹Soap-treated poultices:

  • Special scented soaps can now be used to treat poultices for increased healing effects!
Spoiler!
image

🕯️Scented Candles:

  • Scented candles can be made from melting down normal candles with flower and herb oil.
  • They act the same as regular candles except they cannot be placed into chandeliers.
Spoiler!
image

🌳Shea Trees:

  • Shea trees can be found in hotter climates around the world.
  • Harvested shea fruits can be processed into shea butter and used as an alternative to fat for soap making and even vanilla recipes!
  • No more killing innocent animals!
Spoiler!
imageimage

🌺Flowers and herbs:

  • Currently 5 new flower/herb crops can be found around the world: chamomile, hibiscus, lavender, calendula, and mint.
  • After growing or finding wild crops make sure to check the tooltips! For example; hibiscus crops require shears to harvest due to their stronger wood-like stems and mint is better harvested before it blooms flowers!
  • Fresh flowers gathered from crops can be combined in a crafting grid to create a flower block that can be placed on dirt as you would a normal flower, placed in planters/flower pots or used to make dyes!
  • Flower heads can be cut from the harvested flowers with a knife in the crafting grid. Fresh heads can then be pressed in a fruit press to make oils. 16 fresh flower heads are required for 5L of flower/herb oil.
  • Fresh and dried flower heads have different uses in cooking. Fresh heads can be used to make pies and as an ingredient in vegetable stews, meat stews, and soups. Dried flower heads can be used for making teas.
Spoiler!
imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

🌱Potash:

  • Potash fertilizer (vanilla) can now be made by heating water and wood ash in a cooking pot.

  • Re-mapping of all blocks and items to new mod domain. Warning! Pressed mash that has been placed in a large trough will most likely dissappear or bug out. I have no way of fixing this, but taking them out of the troughs seems to work. This re-mapping was done in preparation for the new release of "Soap and Lye", formerly known as "Just Soap and Lye" for VS game version 1.21.
  • This update isn't super necessary unless you want the reduced soap-making times as it will all be patched anyways when I update the mod to game version 1.21.

Could you try to do some synergy with the Expanded Resources mod?
Thanks!

💬 Ozyzzyl, 2 days ago

Brun may I suggest adding Shea fruits to trader inventories? Agriculture, Survival, and Commodities maybe, just because the trees are hot climate.

💬 MystRunner, 3 days ago

As a note for the current incompatibility issue for other players. Pine seems to also work in cooking for charred logs.

💬 unHallowed, Nov 25th at 2:18 AM

Just posted an update to ChandelierCraft - your candles now go on my chandeliers Brun!! <3

💬 ChiefKrogan, Oct 24th at 11:49 PM

Brun I see! That's absolutely possible as I was curating a modlist for a server and was installing and uninstalling a bunch of mods. Of those that were left my guess would be the Floral Zones, as anythign else that actaully meddles in generation is RiverGen and a bunch of mods like Better Ruins or Better Traders. And I don't think Better Ruins would affect plant spawns, RiveGen doesn't seem plausible either, so that would be my  bet. Thank you very kindly for looking into it! I will just redo the world as I had only a few hours in it anyway and I like the worldgen in it. That should solve it.

💬 Brun , Oct 24th at 11:03 PM

ChiefKrogan
I've just tested this with and without the biomes mod installed thinking that could be a reason why but I cannot replicate what you're describing. The only three reasons I can think of why this would happen is some other mod that affects generation is caching my plants, you still have the mod installed/enabled, or you're exploring chunks of the world that have already been generated (possible if you're playing on a server).

💬 ChiefKrogan, Oct 23rd at 12:30 PM

Hey I removed this mod from my mods a whle ago, but the game still tries to generate it's blocks on the world I had it on. When I go to a new not yet generated land it puts white blocks with a question mark, that refer to plants from this mod - that I no longer have in my files. Is that supposed to happen? I'm geniuenly so confused.

💬 Brun , Oct 21st at 7:33 PM

bintoss
I'll keep that in mind as I continue work on this next update. It may take so long that a stable release will come before I'm done lol.

Azraile
I've had many people ask and compare this mod with the Oils! mod; at this point I should write about it at the top of the page 😂. I hadn't really thought about new features since I've been grinding to get the last major content/code update done. I did have plans for compatibility with the Oils! mod if/when it gets rewitten and updated, but if I finish the final big update before that happens I may add some functionality like that. Originally this mod started out as a very basic idea branching from a fossils mod I'm developing (if you can believe that) so I haven't considered much uses/functionality for the soaps/oils.

💬 Azraile, Oct 21st at 3:01 AM

Any chance in adding some features like that of oils from the oils! from seeds to substances mod.. or compatability with it?

It lets you use seed oil instead of fat and in making soaps and dying/aging wood.

I kinda like the idea of both but this is a WAY WAY better mood and having redundant soaps is kinda meh, just think you could do a better job with sented oils and stuff too anyway lol

💬 bintoss, Oct 19th at 8:42 AM

A Culinary Artilery and Expanded Foods have -dev alpha releases available. These will be very unstable (API-wise, not crashy), but they should provide a decent starting point for compatibility work.

💬 Thranos, Oct 16th at 8:04 PM

Two issues that players on my server have (somehow) run into:
-Liquid soap can be used in place of water to make soups, somehow
-Brewing tea gives "an absurd amount" of xskills cooking XP, something to the tune of roughly 10x what cooking a meal does

💬 Cuttlebear, Oct 10th at 4:42 PM

So excited for the soap-washing for buffs mechanic! Will be downloading as soon as that's available!

💬 RiverTheSheep, Oct 3rd at 11:57 PM

Looking forward to it!

💬 Brun , Oct 3rd at 7:33 PM

MrFastZombie
Thanks!

RiverTheSheep
Currently there is no direct compatbility between this mod and Oils! I may however add compat when Oils is reworked and updated.

💬 RiverTheSheep, Oct 3rd at 3:42 AM

How does this interact with the Oils mod?

💬 MrFastZombie, Oct 3rd at 3:19 AM

those plant models look awesome

Brun

That's great to hear! Thanks for the quick fix :)

💬 Brun , Oct 2nd at 8:32 PM

MechaMagus
I've released a new update file for v1.3.5. This version looks identical to the previous one but this time it actually fixes the compatibility errors. Make sure to download it again if you still have the old one!

💬 Brun , Oct 1st at 8:48 PM

MechaMagus
I've reached out to the mod author to help resolve this issue. For now you'll have to run version 1.3.4 and I cannot guarentee that shea trees will be spawning on that version.

Kosmu
I will look into adding it for version 1.4.0!

@Blight
The two mints may cause some overlap but they are grown in different ways and have different uses. I have decided not to add compatibilty as of now since it would be difficult to reach a middle ground between their different growing patterns and harvesting amounts.

ArsenikMilk
I've answered this question before on my discord page if I remember correctly. I'll do my best to add compatibilty for In Dappled Grove's. I'm sure the implementation would be simple enough.

💬 ArsenikMilk, Oct 1st at 8:23 PM

Looking at the upcoming 1.4.0 update, are you looking to add compatability with the sawdust created from In Dappled Grove's overhaul of sawing mechanics? (You cannot use the crafting grid recipe, and instead must place the log/debarked log on a sawbuck, from which you get the 12 planks and 1 sawdust)

💬 BIight, Oct 1st at 7:51 PM

Will this conflict with Wildcraft plants? There's mint there, and probably other plants.

💬 Kosmu, Oct 1st at 1:53 PM

Would it be possible to be able to store all the lavender/chamomile/etc heads into the Food Shelves Ceiling Jars? since they provide a drying bonus (and it's probably nicer than having 30 shelves)

💬 MechaMagus, Oct 1st at 1:52 PM

Hi hi. Love the mod! Though I just updated it and now it seems to be having a new incompatibility with the Biomes mod. Getting the following error.

Definitely this mod as I went through troubleshooting removing mods and adding them back in and the issue re-occured right as I added this mod back in. Definitely have the 1.3.5 version of the mod installed.

💬 Kosmu, Sep 26th at 8:14 AM

That's fantastic to hear, thank you for all your work!

💬 Brun , Sep 25th at 7:42 PM

Kosmu
Currently soap bars are only used to make liquid soaps. I cant remember but I think there are some traders who buy/sell certain soap bars in the current version of this mod. I will most likely add a new "soap" trader in the next big content update so that more items from the mod can be purchased/sold without having the vanilla traders shops over crowded with soap lol. Another major use for soap bars is being added in the next/final content update which will add buffs to washing yourself with them while standing in water. These buffs will be minor increases to stats and vary based on the scent of soap bar used. They will last all day (24 in-game hours) to mimic cleaning yourself in real life.

💬 Kosmu, Sep 25th at 2:20 PM

Do traders buy soap bars? whats the current use? (apart from a pretty deco item)

💬 Mulciber, Sep 24th at 1:58 AM

Brun

Thanks very much for your response.  Seems like this is a vanilla fruitpress deal.  No worries, gives me the opportunity to farm more mint!  Thanks again for all your hard work!

💬 Brun , Sep 23rd at 7:07 PM

Mulciber
Thank you for your kind words! As far as I'm aware you must press 16 or 32 items in a fruitpress in order to actually produce the output liquid. I tested this with vanilla fruits and my new flowers/herbs with the same results. I really wish you could press any amount of fruit/herb/flower, but unfortunately that doesn't seem possible as of right now. In the meantime the workaround that I've found is to store your harvested crops underground in cellars with vessels in order to preserve them longer. It may also take a few cycles of growing them to produce enough seeds for a bigger harvest to yield enough for pressing oils.

💬 Mulciber, Sep 23rd at 4:07 AM

Thank you for your work on this mod.  It ups the coziness factor by orders of magnitude.

Just to make sure I'm not missing something, the new plant oils--you can't actually juice them until you have enough for 5 or 10l?  I had 8 mint leaves that I put in the press, it generated "Wet Mint Mash" and indicated it would produce 2.5l of mint oil, but when I put it in the press again, nothing happened.  It works just fine at 16 leaves/5l of oil, but since the leaves would rot or dry before I could grow another plant, I wanted to get the oil I could from my first mint plant's harvest.  Would it be possible to press oil from herbs/flowers below the 5l threshold so you can save them up more incrementally?

Thank you again!

💬 Brun , Sep 11th at 7:55 PM

OzzyMoo
I just tested this with vanilla rye and my mint crops. Growth was stunted in heat but when the crop was converted into a dead plant it only gave me back the mint seeds. Are you sure it wasn't just in a stunted state insead of being completely dead?

💬 OzzyMoo, Sep 11th at 10:04 AM

Not quite sure if it´s true but i have the feeling that any plant from the mod that has died out on any farmland is still growing?
I noticed that as my mint died out from heat and when i wanted to clean up it still dropped leaves.

Otherwise I´m in love with this mod as i love soap :3

💬 TotallyNotASmurf, Sep 10th at 5:32 AM

Noice, I can finally use the 30 quintillion bear hides I have because John Vintage decided to make my base out of honey.

💬 ElusiveEnigma, Sep 10th at 2:08 AM

Sweet! Thanks for keeping this updated, Brun! Love your work!

💬 Brun , Sep 9th at 8:57 PM

TotallyNotASmurf
Thanks for pointing this out to me! I completely overlooked it in the bible of patch notes.

ElusiveEnigma
I've fixed the poultices healing in the newest update (v1.3.4). Thanks for the assist!

💬 ElusiveEnigma, Sep 9th at 8:05 PM

Brun

Any plans to make the scented poultices in line with the new vanilla healing mechanic? The mod version still heals instantly while all other sources of healing now do Heal over Time.

💬 ElusiveEnigma, Sep 9th at 8:04 PM

Tiberius3969

Make sure you have the correct ratios. 2 wood ash to 1 water. It has to be exact. Once they match, it just turns into lye.

💬 Tiberius3969, Sep 9th at 6:59 PM (modified Sep 9th at 7:30 PM)

i feel stupid for asking this, but how do you mix the wood ash and water, all i can do is seal the barrel?and when i try to use the discord link i get stuck on an empty discord, with the Title Soap and lye.

💬 TotallyNotASmurf, Sep 9th at 5:45 AM

About Lye, it seems you've forgotten to make the new bear hide usable for soaking with Lye lel. Lye still require old huge hides, and I don't think we can get that without going into modded animals anymore.

💬 Brun , Sep 4th at 8:24 PM

Samogitia
You know I've always questioned why fruit presses worked like that to begin with. I understand not being able to press unless you have a certain amount of material to start but having only two options of an exact amount to press seemed a bit limited and unrealistic.

💬 IgnisPolonia, Sep 4th at 7:51 PM

very progressive mod! Congrats to autors! Keep going, keep going Bro!

💬 Parf, Sep 4th at 4:55 PM

Samogitia if it's worthy advice, i once had to reinstall my whole game because fruit-pressing behavior just wasn't working anymore. it was no mod's fault from what i could tell and reinstalling actually fixed it. could be worth a shot!

💬 Samogitia, Sep 4th at 6:47 AM

Brun

Disabled all mods, deleted cache and still as long as i put more than 12 it always works. No idea why it happens to me. But everything works so its not realy an issue, and i guess its nice to have more leeway with amount i can squeeze :)

💬 Brun , Sep 3rd at 6:53 PM

Samogitia
That's really strange because it works fine for me and I cannot replicate the issue. Maybe it's happening because of a different mod you have installed? Try disabling all of your mods except Soap and Lye: Bloom and Lather and create a new creative world to test the normal 16 or 32 flower heads.

💬 Samogitia, Sep 3rd at 3:17 AM

Brun

After it didnt work and i read description i went to my creative to test it. And it worked with 13 or 20 flowers, not just 16 or 32. Thats why i was confused.

💬 Brun , Sep 3rd at 2:02 AM

Samogitia
Fruit presses need either 16 or 32 of a squeezeable material in order to produce a liquid. So in this case you would need 4 more chamomile flower heads to produce 5L of chamomile oil. Also make sure you're using chamomile flower heads and not the whole flower! The heads can be made with a knife in the crafting grid.

💬 Samogitia, Sep 3rd at 1:15 AM (modified Sep 3rd at 1:15 AM)

Putting 12 or less flowers into fruit press doesnt do anything (only tried with chamomile). Is this a bug or intended?

💬 Brun , Sep 1st at 11:22 AM

WizardyBusiness
They add new flowers and/or herbs as crops. Vanilla flowers are untouched

💬 WizardyBusiness, Sep 1st at 6:45 AM

Do the flowers in this mod add new flowers, or replace existing vanilla flowers?

💬 TrainDoc, Sep 1st at 12:08 AM

Highly agreed with Calbain, so tired of these ugly ass AI art. Just a little bit of effort for a great icon. Keep up the great work.

A few questions:
1. What version of Vintage Story are you playing on?
2. What version of Soap and Lye: Bloom and Lather are you using?
3. Did you update to v1.3.2 from a previous version?
4. What type of lavender flowers are not rendering? The crops, flower blocks, or items? Was it placed in a flower pot or planter? Could you provide a picture to show the rendering issue? You can upload one to imgur online for free then copy and paste it here.
5. What kind of poultice is it and how did it vanish? Did it happen after updating the mod?

💬 Valtiel91, Aug 29th at 5:42 PM

something is happening, lavender flowers dont render and poultice vanish

💬 MrApothic, Aug 29th at 1:17 AM

Thank you for replying! I certainly understand and appreciate all the work you do with these mods of yours and look forward seeing your future work! <3 <3

💬 Akari_Enderwolf, Aug 28th at 6:19 PM

Brun Thank you for the reply. I will say, Plumpkins does kinda work as it is now. I was able to see the replacement model in the handbook. Glad to hear about the current plans here ^.^ hope things go smoothly for all your plans, love the sound of a fossil mod.

💬 Brun , Aug 28th at 7:49 AM

MrApothic Akari_Enderwolf
I have recently shared my current plans on the discord mod page for Soap and Lye. As of right now I plan on patching up the bare bones version of this mod (formerly Just Soap and Lye) and will most likely update that to v1.21 first, then I will work on getting all my other mods, including this one, to v1.21! After that I will complete the content planned for v1.4.0 and finally begin working on my fossils mod again (Vintage Prehistory) which is unreleased 🦖🦕

💬 Akari_Enderwolf, Aug 28th at 4:11 AM

I was also hoping for 1.21 All your mods look so cute, and I was wanting to use them on 1.21

💬 MrApothic, Aug 28th at 4:00 AM

I realize you just dropped a big update for the pack but I'm curious of if there is a time table for V21 or you gonna keep this mod in V20 while your working on your features?

💬 Brun , Aug 25th at 1:43 AM

Khaydar
Thanks for pointing this out! It will be changed in the next update.

💬 Khaydar, Aug 25th at 1:25 AM (modified Aug 25th at 1:26 AM)

Lavender ingame can survive to temperatures of 29C, despite being a plant adapted to heat and drought irl, growing just fine around the Mediterranean and North Africa. If anything temperatures close to flax makes more sense.

💬 AnniPicto, Aug 16th at 2:04 AM (modified Aug 16th at 2:09 AM)

@Brun

Thank you for your detailed answer! My friends and I are looking forward to seeing your ideas come to life!😍

💬 Brun , Aug 15th at 7:39 PM

AnniPicto
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on the mod! There's a lot to unpack here so I'll tackle each question/suggestion in the same number order you have set up.

1. I have looked over the "Oils!" mod in the past and have decided to postpone any kind of compatibility as it's creator will be doing a full rework/rewrite of his system and ideas for the mod.
2. For taking a bath with soaps I have brainstormed my idea for the soap washing mechanic. All bars of soap will be usable by holding right click while standing and/or swimming in water. Regular lye soap bars will provide a "clean" buff that gives a small boost to general stats and lasts 24 hours (just like real life). Scented soaps will instead provide buffs for the same amount of time, but also specialize in each of those different stats. For example: Mint soap bars might give an increase to movement speed and lavender bars may greatly lower animal detection range. This way you'll have to decided what you'll be doing that day and wash up accordingly! Of course you'll only be able to use one soap buff at a time, but you'll also be able to refresh your current buff before it runs out. As for turning the water a different color while you wash.. that could get a bit tricky, but I do have someone working on code for spawning bubble particles when bars are dropped into water and when you wash yourself in water!
3. I guess I could reduce the merchants buying and selling lists. Originally I tried to add whatever I thought each trader might be interested in or would aquire while on their travels. Farmers do sell seeds but now that I think about it, it doesn't really make sense for a treasure merchant to sell them too lol.
4. Planting the decorative flower blocks in flower pots and planters has been on the list of things to do and I will try my best to get it done before the big v1.3.0 update!

Hello! I have a few questions.

  1. Have you heard of the mod "Oils!"? It seems to me that you approached the same problem, but in different ways. Both your mod and the mod "oils" have very good ideas. Your mod has a very well thought out balance. I like that the dyed fabric needs to be soaked in a barrel for a while to clean, I like that if I do not have time to squeeze the flowers into oil, I drink tea. "Oils!" does not have this (and I think that some of the mechanics are too simple), but there are cute jars, there are oil lamps and oil candles in candlesticks. And there is also the ability to use food from the vanilla game. Perhaps there is a chance that someday you will team up or come up with an option for mod compatibility.
  2. I also want to say that I am really looking forward to the ability to take a bath with scented soap (is it possible to temporarily color the water around the character? And bubbles, I need bubbles!! And for regeneration in a bubble bath to be faster).
  3. Sometimes half of the items that merchants buy or sell are from this mod. Is it possible to limit the number of items in their buy/sell list? I found flower seeds from a treasure merchant. Maybe a farmer should sell them.
  4. The decorative flower bush can't be planted in a flower pot.

P.s. Thanks for your work, the mod is very cute and helps us make our home more cozy.🤗

I've thought about changing the name of this mod so many times lol. At this point I've added so much unique content that I would need more space for a larger title!😂

Okay but this mod should be "Soap, Lye and Dye" and the basic mod should be "Soap and Lye" right? 😋

Thank you for sharing your admiration! I really enjoy hearing what people think about the mod!😄I have some really cool ideas planned for the rose bushes too. I don't want to spoil too much of what's to come but let's just say that roses are going to be really valuable and exotic with a unique way of aquiring/collecting all of the colors! Also you mentioning bottles has me thinking that I should create my own glass bottles for showing off and storing liquid soaps, oils, and teas! I'll probably add compatibility for A Culinary Artillery as well so those containers can be filled and traded with too!

💬 runebakery, Aug 7th at 12:55 AM

Just dropping a note of appreciation! This mod is so charming and fun, and the system for making soap feels practically vanilla, it's just right. Making oils for the soaps is super cozy, and I love the plant and flower models, too. I am super excited to see the eventual rose bushes and bottles for selling and saving soap!

💬 Brun , Aug 6th at 12:19 AM

pimblokto
I agree! I'm already in the works for making such a system!

💬 pimblokto, Aug 5th at 11:26 PM

It would be kind of fun if you could make it so we can get dirty and then use the soap to clean ourselves!

💬 Brun , Aug 3rd at 10:12 PM

Calbain
I couldn't agree more! I have already begun working on getting them in flower pots and planters, however I seem to have a hard time "attaching" their models to them. I've done it before when attaching backpacks to player models, but this time I just can't get it to work! 😅

💬 Calbain, Aug 3rd at 8:00 PM

These would look lovely in some flower pots

💬 Brun , Aug 2nd at 11:35 PM

Hydromancerx
I suppose that would be feasible, but I have no idea how common or rare those hybiscus bushes are so balancing the recipe would be quite a challenge. Wildcraft herbs are even more difficult to balance because they can be planted straight into the soil without tilling, fertilizing, or watering. This could be easily exploited by gathering many seeds and filling a large area with the herbs to harvest every few days. At that point it would be meaningless to add because most players wouldn't want to go through all of that and would most likely prefer planting my crops.

💬 Hydromancerx, Aug 2nd at 9:30 PM (modified Aug 2nd at 9:31 PM)

Brun

Oh i was hoping that you would make some conversion recipies. Such as FZ hybiscus + knife = X ammount of your hibuscus. Or X ammount of Wildcraft herbs = 1 of your herbs. That way growing your crops are still ideal but you can still use the other mods plants at a greater item cost. Also thanks for adding the biomes mod support! I am curious why lavender is in Australia and Oceania. As far as i know they are not native to those regions.

💬 Brun , Aug 1st at 10:05 PM

Hydromancerx
I have taken a look at all the mod compatibilities you've suggested. The Biomes mod is now supported and works with my new crops (coming in the next v1.2.2 update patch)! The Floral Zone's implementation of hibiscus is a normal flower and as such should have no interference/patching needed with my mod. Wildcraft: Herbs and Spices has a unique take on implementing chamomile, lavender, mint, etc. which allows them to be grown in the ground without needed to till soil, having them mature multiple times (without replanting seeds), and harvesting with very little yield. My herb crops grow in denser groups over a longer period of time, need care just as a normal crop, and yield much more for each harvest. This method works well with my vision of Soap and Lye, but unfortunatly means it cannot be patched with Wildcraft: Herbs and Spices. You can however still use both mods together and have similar herbs with different uses! For the case of the Oils! mod I plan on waiting for the author to make their next big rework update and I'll decide at that time whether or not to add compatibility. For right now, as with Floral Zones and Wildcraft, Oils! should work just fine alongside my mod. I do plan on adding similar items like Oils! does such as candles and potentially even lanterns, but unless Oils makes a new crafting system/mechanic for either of those items I wouldn't have much of a reason to patch for compatibility.

💬 Brun , Jul 31st at 6:48 PM

I'll take a look and see what I can do!

💬 Hydromancerx, Jul 31st at 4:37 PM (modified Jul 31st at 4:37 PM)

Wild farming revival should work just fine as there are no items that conflict between it and my mod. I will however be working on an official 1.21-pre version of this mod very soon.

💬 Brun , Jul 31st at 12:53 PM (modified Jul 31st at 6:48 PM)

Hydromancerx

I can work on the patches as soon as I get home from work today. Thank you for pointing out these mods!

💬 animatiV, Jul 31st at 9:53 AM

Since Wild Farming - Revival is updated to version 1.21, is it supported?

💬 Hydromancerx, Jul 31st at 6:06 AM (modified Jul 31st at 6:24 AM)

Will you be patching with other mods that use the same plants? Such as hibiscus from the Floral Zone mod or chamomile and lavender from the Wildcraft: Herbs and Spices mod?

Also please add support for the Biomes mod so they spawn in the world when using the mod. Note it blocks any plants not whitelisted for a particular region.

For example the same plants in the other mods have the following ...

Chamomile = Atlantic Palearctic, Central Palearctic, Eastern Palearctic

Hibiscus = Central Palearctic, Eastern Palearctic, Pacific Palearctic

Lavender = Atlantic Palearctic, Central Palearctic, Eastern Palearctic

CrazedVantaBlack
You bring up a good point here and I appreciate the feedback! The only issues I have with this solution are; that logs would have to be cooked twice in a campfire and only five log types can be used to create charred logs. I have already spoken with one of the devlopers for wildcraft trees and they agreed to make a custom patch for their next update that will fix the incompatibility. Given that I don't know when that update will take place and considering your wonderful idea I think the best temporary workaround would be making a new recipe for wood ash by placing charred logs into a crafting grid. I would have never even considered this as a fix without your suggestion so thank you for sharing your idea!

💬 CrazedVantaBlack, Jul 21st at 8:26 PM

Hello Brun , i may have a workaround for the incompat with wildcraft trees. so the logs in wildcraft when they are cooked make a log known as charred wood. you could in theory just make it so if you then cook that charred wood block again, it would turn into wood ash. it would even simplify the cook tree because you would only need to code the cooking of one block to get said wood ash.....hope this helps for clarity this is the charred wood.json file in its entirety

Brun

oh, ok sorry than i missunderstood that.

can you add compatibility for "Make Tea" so that the Teas you add can be brewed with the teapot of that mod ?

💬 Brun , Jul 20th at 10:46 PM

Jhoulana
So I just installed and loaded up the "Wild Farming Revival" mod and I'm not seeing any of the herbs or teas as you're describing. Is it possible that another mod you have is adding those plants and liquids? The flower crops I'm planning on adding in the coming updates are going to be separate from the vanilla flowers and I will no longer use wild daisy, heather, and catmint flowers.

💬 Jhoulana, Jul 20th at 10:03 PM

Brun

i woud love if you add compabillity with "Wild Farming Revival" and "MakeTea"  later. ^^

but for the sake of simplicity and individualism I would prefer separate mods.

💬 Brun , Jul 20th at 11:42 AM

Jhoulana
Thanks for sharing your feedback. To be fair, I have been a little out of touch with the game recently since all of my time is spent making mods rather than playing. I figured there may be other mods that do similar or the same things as I want. Would you be opposed to me adding compatibility for "Wild Farming Revival" instead? In the case you would have both mods installed I could just disable most of my flower crops/teas that already exist in that mod so as to not over-saturate the content being added to the game. That way you could still make use of mint herbs and make chamomile soaps with Wild Farming Revivals flowers/herbs instead. On the other hand it wouldn't be a huge deal for me to make Soap and Lye super basic and make a separate mod that adds additional content, so let me know what you think. You can also reach me through my discord link at the top of this mod page and dm me if you prefer.

💬 Jhoulana, Jul 20th at 11:22 AM

I don't want to diminish your enthusiasm, and this isn't meant as criticism. But I fear the mod is getting a bit bloated and straying from the basics.

May I suggest turning flower crops and teas, etc., into a separate mod?

Its just, I already use "Wild Farming Revival" and "Make Tea," so flower crops and tea would be superfluous for me.

💬 Willobe, Jul 20th at 5:09 AM

Brun that was it lol, i was trying to use lye not Lye soap

💬 Brun , Jul 19th at 12:26 AM

Parf Willobe
I just tested washing wool with the soap from my mod and everthing seems to be working perfectly on my end. Are you both sure that you're using "Lye soap" and not regular Lye (liquid)? Parf I see that you mentioned using the regular lye liquid so that might have been your issue. I know the liquid models can be a little hard to tell apart but soap has a slightly different texture and color, besides the name of course 😂. An important thing to note as well is that any amount of liquid soap can exist in the barrel as long as there's enough to cover however many fleeces you want to wash at a ratio of 1 fleece per 0.5L of liquid soap. Oh yeah and lye soap bars can be made from combining liquid lye and animal fat in a barrel. It's also worth noting that pressing certain flowers or using honey can "scent" the regular lye soap bars into colored variants that require half as much soap for each piece of wool! Soap bars turn into liquid with water in a barrel and the liquid soap is what you need to use. I know it sounds a little confusing but I'll be sure to release a guidebook page at some point that explains the process in more detail!

💬 Parf, Jul 18th at 7:27 PM

Willobe I just got here to say something similar! Brun What do you think about adding compatibility with Wool & More? Currently wool fibers must be cleaned in limewater or diluted borax like vanilla rawhides. I don't know how lye works in real life, so if "cleaning freshly shorn wool with liquid lye" sounds unrealistic, I'd accept that reasoning. I'm roleplaying as a livestock rancher and never going underground means I have to trade my way to borax/lime. 😅

Edit: just saw in the description that it literally lists compatibility. Huh! I can't soak my disgustingly dirty sheep's wool in lye! A bug?

Also came around to say in our multiplayer server with Wildcraft Trees, we're doing a temporary workaround for the log incompatibility using a redwood corner log exchange chest, with redwood logs spawned through Creative. I was determined to have this mod work and I think our dinky little exchange booth is charming. 😇

💬 Willobe, Jul 18th at 2:09 AM

So i see the reciepe for cleaning wool but the barrel wont seal, i even tried just one piece to 20 lye.

💬 Brun , Jul 17th at 7:43 PM

wael6
Ah I see! Sorry for the confusion. I do like the idea of different "paths" or options you have with each flower and having your choice impact what results you can achieve. For instance, coming in the next update you will be able to make chamomile tea and oil. To make oil you have to press the fresh flowers but, in order to make tea you need to dry the flowers out first and then cook it with water in a cooking pot over a fire pit. I'll be sure to add more methods of using herbs in the future but for now potions are a little out of scope for this mod. I also recall seeing another mod made specifically for potions called Alchemy which probably does a much better job than I could lol. But maybe I can try to implement compatibility for it in the future? 🤔

💬 Brun , Jul 17th at 7:35 PM

Charlesunicorn
Thanks so much! 😄 I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying what I've done so far! To be honest with you I already have a draft mod set up for Vintage Prehistory that's currently unlisted. The mod is nowhere near complete as of right now though and I took a small break from it to work on Soap and Lye. Fun fact: Soap and Lye started out as a very basic mod based off of one of the features I really liked in Vintage Prehistory. Somewhere along it's development I thought that people might enjoy the soap and lye concept as a small addition to the normal game without having to play with fossils. As for Vintage Prehistory I will work more on the draft page and most likely provide a link to it from my other mod pages at the bottom section "Check out my other mods!". Just keep in mind that everything I show off for Vintage Prehistory is very much a work in progress and some things could completely change or be removed before it's release 😅.

💬 wael6, Jul 17th at 4:32 PM

Brun i wasn't really talking about making oil inside of the mortar and pestle i was talking about the flowers you grounded inside of the mortar and pestle would give more oil in the fruit press after that, and that also just was an example for what grounding them would do, was mostly talking about making infusions you could make with grounded herbs/flowers (maybe even actual potions)

💬 Charlesunicorn, Jul 17th at 2:02 PM

Hey Brun! Completely unrelated to this mod, but just wanted to say that I would be so excited to see your draft for the fossils mod (Vintage Prehistory) come to life!! I think fossils fit so well and the idea of going on expeditions to find fossils, uncovering them and then being able to display them would be such a cool addition to the game! Love your work, keep it up!

💬 Brun , Jul 16th at 10:50 PM

wael6
A mortar and pestle sounds like a great way to make use of herbs in the early game! Though I'm not sure on the balancing of it producing more oil than a fruitpress does. I'll have to look more into Ancient Tools and see how Soap and Lye could grow alongside it.

💬 wael6, Jul 16th at 4:12 PM

would be nice to have exclusive recipes for the mortar and pestle from ancient tools to do some more herbalism with some of the plants (could just be crushing them makes it require less flowers to make the same amount of oil)

I've just added compatibility with the Wool & More mod in version 1.1.5 😄. Thanks for the suggestion!

💬 Michael00181, Jul 16th at 3:53 AM

Can we get compatability with wool and more so we can use lye to clean fleece for wool fibers?

💬 CrazedVantaBlack, Jul 14th at 7:38 AM

No issue Brun glad i could help.

💬 Brun , Jul 13th at 8:50 PM

CrazedVantaBlack
Thank you for the reply! I have just downloaded and comfirmed that wildcraft trees is the culprit for this issue. The mod replaces all of the fire pit "cooking" for almost all of the log types, which in return overrides what I've made. I believe I already know how to fix this problem and I should have an update out sometime tonight.

Update: I've contacted the creator of Wildcraft Trees to see if they can help me implement compatibility. Sorry for any inconvenience in the meantime.

💬 CrazedVantaBlack, Jul 13th at 8:21 PM

I can Brun confirm that the update has not fixed the issue. redwood corners are the only thing that registers when you try to make wood ash. i too am using Wildcraft Trees and shrubs and Wildcraft revival. so it might very well be a conflict.

💬 Brun , Jul 10th at 11:25 PM

Schplim
I've just put out an update (V1.1.4) which should fix this issue. Let me know if your problem still exists.

💬 Schplim, Jul 10th at 10:23 PM

The mod seems really great but sadly I'm having the same issue as Artor where I can't make wood ash out of anything else than corner redwood logs. My guess is that it's a mod compability problem. (either Trees and Shrubs or Wild Farming revival as those are probably the only 2 ones I currently have that add new logs) But for some reason the mods themselves seem to break the recipe in a way that you cannot use the vanilla logs either.

💬 Brun , Jul 10th at 2:27 AM

Parf
An interesting idea for sure lol. To be honest I barely know how the repairing mechanic works for broken clutter but I can look into it and see what I can do.

💬 Parf, Jul 9th at 9:22 PM

love this as a supplement for leather-making! do you think it'd be appropriate to add a cleaning functionality for broken clutter using soap? i know glue repairs it, but this could provide an alternate way of acquiring/fixing clutter with soap on hand.

💬 Brun , Jul 8th at 6:57 PM

wael6

As practical, realistic, and awesome as that would be I'm not sure of a way to pull it off. It would have to be done in code and could get quite complex; far more than I am capable of doing at this time. I'll keep it in mind for a future update nonetheless. Thanks for the suggestion!

💬 wael6, Jul 8th at 4:25 PM

could be cool if wood used as fuel could become ash (maybe an item dropping when it finishes to burn or dropping corresponding on the amount you burned when you break the firepit/clean it with a new tool/sticks ?

💬 Brun , Jul 6th at 1:03 PM

Michael00181
I love that idea! I will definitely add it in the next update!

💬 Michael00181, Jul 6th at 12:26 PM

Delighted to hear that Brun, I admit I don't know a thing about coding so the simplest solution for now would lkely be using some ammount of soap with a bandage to make an item like "Bandage and soap portion." Maybe make them heal 5 HP vs the 7HP od the alcahol soaked bandages but without the drying out effect? It'd still make them better than the regular bandages 3HP.

💬 Brun , Jul 6th at 12:17 PM

Michael00181
I have thought about adding more direct uses for the player. Both of your ideas do seem like they would fit well in this mod but I'll have to see if I can figure out how to implement it. I am still in the learning process of mod development, especially when it comes to coding, but I'll see what I can do!

💬 Michael00181, Jul 6th at 12:06 PM

would you ever consider some other benefits to soap? such as a temporary buff from cleaning yourself with soap that reduces animal detection range or perhaps a buff to healing effectiveness for some time after cleaning yourself with scented soaps? Perhaps making a cleaned bandage that isn't as good as the alcahol saoked one but is still good as you've portioned some soap with it to clean wounds.

💬 Brun , Jul 6th at 11:00 AM

Artor
I'm not sure what you mean. From what I can see everything looks normal. If it's liquid lye you're trying to make you have to click on the white liquid first in order to see the barrel recipe.

Edit: I just realized what you meant and I believe I have fixed the problem with log variants not cooking into wood ash. These changes take place in version 1.1.2

I can work on that this afternoon and hopfully have an update tonight. There are some other things I'd like to add/change as well so if not tonight then definitely tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

This can potentially replace this other mod if only it were able to make potash.

Very interesting ideas! I think soapy water would be a great way to make the cleaning process more realistic. I suppose I'll have to think up another use for bars of soap then since I could just create the liquid soap in a barrel in the first place. Maybe the bars could be colored/scented with various flowers and be sold to traders or collected as displayable items.

A couple of suggestions:

Instead of simply combining the mordanted cloth with a piece of soap in a crafting grid, how about introducing soap water?

Step 1: X number of litres of water in a barrel. Dump a piece of soap in it and it becomes soap water.

Step 2: Have the cloth soak in the barrel for X amount of time.

Second suggestion:

Use Soap water to let the player clean a dirty pot by soaking it for X amount of time.

At a glance it would appear that floralrat's "Oils! From seed to Substance" mod takes a more complex approach at turning grains and vegetables into oils with many uses. His mod also has a lot more uses and recipes for soap and oil. My mod takes a more basic approach to soap and lye while maintaining similar functionality. At the moment "Soap and Lye" is just a small mod that stems from a much larger code mod I'm developing called "Vintage Prehistory". While in development I thought it might be a good idea to release this mod as I had not seen a similar mod and I thought people might enjoy these features on thier own.

How's this mod compare to the soap from the Oils mod?

Thanks for the heads up! I've fixed the download now so everything should be working. Let me know if you discover any other issues!

You're probably gonna want to reupload your mod, it's not downloading as a zip file.
