Recommended download (for Vintage Story 1.21.0 - 1.21.5):

This mod adds some potions that enhance the player. Currently these are: Archer's Flask, Fighter's Flask, Healing Oil, Hunter's Delight, Looter's Delight, Miner's Flask, Potent Oil, Purging Brew, Predator Pheromones, Scent Mask, Settling Brew, Spiked Oil, Sprinter's Flask, Vitality Flask, Recall Flask, Glow Flask & Water Breathing Flask.

Version 1.5.0 changes the potion to a liquid so all potions previously created will not port over but empty potion flasks will.

Version 1.6.4 trims the herb rack variants so all herb racks previously created will not port over. (Sorry for the inconvenience)

Some notes:

  • This mod is currently balanced slightly better than before but some of it may still be overpowered. Balancing suggestions are very much welcome.
  • Mining potion increases mining speed only on stone and ores.
  • Poison and Regen potion poison/heal you over time.
  • Potion effects disapear after dying or restarting your game.
  • Potion bases and potion flasks are required to make/drink potions.
  • The ingredients to make potions bases other than the basic one are currently just different combinations of flowers with a mortar & pestle.
  • All the recipes should be in the handbook. (search for "potion").
  • Wild Farming mod is recommended if you want a renewable source of flowers.
  • There is a wildcraft patch done by another modder if you have wildcraft herbs and spices. (I have not tested this)
  • Should be compatible with most mods.
  • If you want a more immersive distilling crafting you can try out Alchemistry (Outdated: last working VS version was 1.19.8). Warning using Alchemistry mod overwrites the original crafting of potions so you will have to follow the alchemistry's crafting recipes for potions if installed.
  • You cannot drink the same potion when you already have the potion's effects active.
  • At the time of writing 05/12/2023 Simple alchemy mod is incompatible with this mod.

  • Added cuttings textures for what flower/herb they use. It's not perfect but it will give the cuttings a more distinct look
  • Removed some null shape faces.
  • Added recall potion block when mounted on large sail boats
  • Changed herb rack to use perishable/ripening information from the base game's shelf rack. It will probably look a little strange but saves me from updating it when base game changes.
  • Herb rack drying/melt transition now takes into account base game transition rate for if in a contained room.

 

Known issues:

  • Sometimes the herb rack doesn't rerender the cuttings when they transition. No idea why this is happening and couldn't find a way to hook into a transition change to set it to refresh.
  • Transition times on drying and curing are slightly off. Drying and Curing don't have base game display information for containers that I could find so I still couldn't quite get the maths right.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, but what is the Alchemy HUD icon, i do not appear to get one when i drink potions, just a chat log. is there a setting or config i am missing? or am i being a tad blind? would love to know where to see that potion timer you mentioned is. Thank you.

JavaBeans That sounds like a base vintage story bug. I have had that bug plenty when the game is laggy. Feel free to prove me wrong though and I will look into it more thoroughly.

veinxxx Easiest method for this would be to create a patch mod that add's a trait to the recipies so they are locked to that trait. If there isnt an existing trait that is appropriate you can also patch the class to include your new trait.

is there an easy way to class lock alchemy to the alchemist class' from the gloomeclass' mod, need to class lock it on a server im deving otherwise the class is a bit too lack luster and we don't want just anybody pumping out some of these OP potions. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi llama3013 I tried going to the discord to ask this but the link is not an actual discord invite, but a link to a channel within the discord, and so it does not work - Is there any way of disabling the faded potion icon when no potions are active ? I'ts quite distracting for me

In the meanwhile I've edited the files over \assets\alchemy\textures\hud to be 20% of their size and made the inactive one just an empty png

Im having an issue with trying to cast herb rack hooks, whenever I try to pour metal into the mold it keeps reseting the amount in the crucible. For example in the mold its 208/225 so obviously it needs more molten metal however when I put it back inside the fireplace I have 8 units left even though I poured the last contents into the mold?

Is there a command or way to see how much longer you have for a potion to be active. If not it would be nice to have a potion clock/ticker/notification in some way to show how long  you have remaining on the potion.

Loving this mod, thank you for making it!

Good call making the Healing oil darker.

Would love to see you implement the spiked oil as a weapon poison, or throwable. I know it would be tedious to make so many variants, but maybe a crafting recipe requiring to place the weapon or arrows in a barrel to create poisoned weapons?

could it be made where there is a balanced mode in config that defaults to on, that set it to where u cant stack potion effects together, as in single player worlds or in chaotic servers, allowing the ablilty for pots to stack on the player (eg healing and sprinters and looting) wud be fun

bagela You don't need any additional mods for alchemy to work. Wild farming mod is just so you can get renewable flowers as base game doesn't respawn flowers as far as I know. You don't need wildcraft patch or wildcraft herbs and spices it used to allow for more ingredients used to create potions but it's out of date and you can still craft potions just fine without it.

Fiskurinn So if you are using 1.20.0 vintage story I would reccomend not using the alchemy v1.7.14. The version you should use is v1.6.56 and also you should probably upgrade to at least v1.20.12 for vintage story. If it's a typo and your actually using v1.21.0 vintage story then you should probably just use v1.7.18 of alchemy. I have no idea why players would kicked from multiplayer after drinking it though.

Drinking a potion kicks the player for some reason on version 1.7.14: 1.20.0, the main problem is "[Server Debug] potion 1, speedpotionid, 0".

Question: I just wanna make sure im getting the right mods, but I notice that various crafting recipes include items not obtainable in the recommended dependencies (Wild Farming mod). This includes various herbs like basil, cilantro, etc.

Am I expected to get the wildcraft patch and/or the wildcraft herbs and spices for these funtionalities? Your description made it seem like you haven't tested it, so I wasn't sure (:

Super cool mod and I dont think I can play without it now! Hope one day the Alchemistry mod gets updated too

I just went to replicate the crash to send you a crashlog, but I think whatever updates you've done (used .18) or other mods I was running have made that i've included must have fixed the issue already. Really sorry to make you look for perhaps nothing! My only running theory is that it had something to do with Tool Smith adding more features to Pitch Glue, but I think your disabling of it being "eaten" might've done the fix? Either way, thank you so much for your time still!

Ren_Lusol xXx_Ape_xXx You're both right, Pitch glue is in the base game. I must have missed it sorry. I have tried to recreate the crash but I was unable to. I have crafted it and placed it in all the potion flask sizes. Large, medium, small and ceramic. I spawned in a bucket of it and tried placing it in the flask through the bucket as well. Does anyone have any crash logs? It seems that there are rendering issues that don't happen for me but happen occassionally for others.

Heya, just wanted to report a really powerful exploit using your mod.

How the exploit works and is done, don't look if you don't wanna fall into temptation.

The Scent Mask, Hunter's delight, and any other potions that reduce the animal seeking detecting range affects monsters too.

Now, you might think that seems normal right? Here's the main issue, if you get 100=> you literally cannot get attacked by enemies other than bowthorns at range.

You can literally keep punching and attacking any enemy and they wont even try to retaliate.

Can you please add a check if it get to like 90-70% detection range to stop it there or nerf them?

Currently, being a Malefactor, with the base -35% animal detection range + a medium potion of scent mask which is -80%, leads to 115% animal detection range, leading it to be very easily abused.

The strong version is -120%, which means you don't even NEED to be a malefactor.
And even then, you could combine the Hunter's delight and still get to that amount using the medium version of it.

So yeah, i want it patched out before i fall into temptation once more.

llama3013 I promise Glue is in Vanilla. It's what you use to repair clutter items in ruins if you have that setting done that way in world creation. They just changed it to be a liquid item in 1.21 proper, hence the new conflict

We saw the same instant crashes with the flasks, when in recipes that require glue, so we had to remove the mod from our server for now.

Ren_Lusol Is pitch glue from a mod? I can't see it in base vintage story. If so what mod? I assume something on the pitch glue item is missing for it render inside the flask and causes a crash but I would like to make the flask less crash prone so I will try to account for whatever is missing.

Kadlore I can't seem to recreate this. I did however find out how weird the herb rack top mold looks when its being filled. Is your game stuttering or are you on a laggy server? I have had this happen with base game unmodded if the game is laggy. Usually it works if you try again.

Hi, i think there is a bug with molds for the thing to dry herbs (hook and other item), i'm unable to fill them with melted copper.

When it reach full it got back empty.

Hiya! I haven't seen anyone else mention it specifically, but as of 1.7.16 (and previous versions since 1.21 to my knowledge) Pitch Glue inside flasks=instantaneous crashing to desktop with an error report without fail. I can send the report if you like, this issue is only really coming up because of me running some other mods with pitch glue in the recipe making even witnessing the flask cause the crash, and I confirmed it was Alchemy Flasks since I decided to scoop some pitchglue into a flask on a singleplayer save to doublecheck.

If you need to remove unwanted potions. here was our solution (without having a config for it) we just nerfed them into the ground. Make a patch file for reducing the effects of potions. Values can likly be set to 0, to fully remove them.  It is a very crude fix, but it works if server's need to "remove" potions for balancing reasons <3.

Also seems to be conflicting with Butchering and Tamable Wolves (Pet AI). Pet biscuits duplicate and stay in pets mouth. Butchering corpses duplicates corpse and prevents drops from butchering.

1.7.15 conflicts with Combat Overhaul. It causes certain weapons to instantly break, and makes bows cease functioning after taking any durability damage, and shoot an incorrectly modeled projectile.

1.7.15 was giving me similar issues as below in terms of picking up ghost items and things not placing correctly. There was also a very strange interaction with Hydrate Or Diedrate, where rainwater suddenly became poisonous (doing -5HP per liter). Certain foods (specifically blood sausage from Butchering) were not giving their correct satiation values either.

Rolling back to 1.7.14 solved these issues.

How many portions of Aqua Vitae does it take to make a potion?   I am struggling to get it to work.   I tried 2 L per Base, and it did nothing, I tried 50L & 10L, and nothing.

AnniPicto Does the clay flask not take the new fired clay colours? I thought I implemented it but I might have messed something up. You can find the ingredients for the other coloured potion flasks but they are rare. I can add more colours and I will add it to the to do list. The same with merchants idea.

Crywolf I tried to add a config.json but the system seemed to be strange when I tried. I also looked at other public mods config and they seem to have implemeneted entirely new config systems rather than using the vanilla system. I will try again to do this at some point.

Mayheim Drying rates used to be buggy in vanilla so I made it much harder for rot to occur. I think its still possible but you need really bad drying conditions and wait a good while. I should look into this again.

Gelan Spiked potions are useless unless you want to prank a friend or kill yourself at the moment. They were planned to have a way to posion your weapons but never got around to it.

Hi. I am only just getting into this mod. How do the spiked potions work? They say they do minus hp. Is that a buff applied to my weapon? Can I put it on a stack of arrows, or just melee? How does it work? The guide book just shows the recipe, which is nice, but now how it actually works..

I kinda feel like the drying rack mold recipe could use way less clay to make it, really doesn't seem like it needs a practically solid BLOCK of clay to make the mold. The corner sections are a total waste of clay given the actual holes of the mold are a + shape.

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love this mod on our server <3 I've made an entire small island off the coast into a massive garden for flowers and mushrooms and berries, and on the island I've built a massive 60-block white chalk Mage Tower only for potion production.

Each floor caters to one step of the Strong Potion production chain:

  1. Basement has poisonous mushrooms + 4 fruit presses and 12 barrels for wine production
  2. Ground floor has 6 boilers for distillation of Aqua Vitae
  3. 1st floor has 18 herb rack for drying
  4. 2nd floor has around 20 fireplaces for baking dried herbs
  5. 3rd floor has around 20 barrels for brewing
  6. 4th floor has shelves all the way to the ceiling slowly getting filled with potions of all colors
  7. 5th floor is observation tower underneath the pointed roof, filled with books and alchemy paraphernalia

 

I can send pictures if you want! It's really been my grandest project on the server, and everyone benefits from the potions. And it's all thanks to this great mod <3

I fired in the hive kiln again today. The clay potion flasks get a base color (like from the kiln pit). I fired the jugs along with the potion flasks. The jugs turned out white and yellow.

I also have an observation. We have been playing with your mod for about two (or three?) years. In all this time, we have never made pink or purple potion flasks. We have never found these crystals. And this is very sad, because the flasks are beautiful. Maybe there is an option to make an alternative recipe from glass bought from the merchant (from full blocks or halves)? In addition, the merchant sells additional colors: blue, brown, yellow - they can also be used.

Make sure that your healing base base and potion tea is one healing base for every litre of potion tea. I believe this is how base Vintage Story handles liquid being sealed to turn into other liquids.

sunnybsleepy Thanks, glad you enjoy it. I don't touch any of the frequency or any of the patch sizes for herbs and flowers. Since the flowers are also often used for decorations, I wouldn't want to make players worlds overall look blander or too colourful by changing the vanilla spawn rates. You can change the flower rates by editting Vintagestory\assets\survival\worldgen\blockpatches\flower.json if you are playing singleplayer or hosting.

Loving this mod! probably my favorite addition to my game. I do find flowers extremely easy to come by and in veritable quantities though- does it increase frequency and patch size for herbs and flowers? if so lowering these may help with balance, encouraging more exploration for alchemists and or flower farming via Wildfarming

If you are talking about crafting recipe you can change it by going into the files assets\alchemy\recipes\grid\ingredient\recallbase.json and you can change it to something else or remove it. I tried to add something to a configlib-patch but it didn't seem to work. I might try again at some point.

Hey, was curious me and some friends where playing and started alchemy but everytime we use any items from it we get kicked from the server saying becasue we threw an exception at the server not sure if it's a problem with the server or on my end? Tried looking it up and haven't had much luck any advice would be great kinda new to hosting servers.

AnniPicto The crafting recipes with molds and clay potion flasks should work now. I quickly tested the beehive kiln with some molds and I think it's working but feel free to let me know if it isn't the case.

Salokin_ It should work much like all other potions crafting. You should have the potion base inside a barrel with the barrel containing potion tea. You can then seal it and it will turn into recall potion. The player handbook should have the recipe.

AnniPicto Your absolutely right. I changed the codes to match the game's new clay codes but I think I forgot to update the recipes. Something was weird with 1.21.0-rc.1 - 1.21.0-rc.3 molds I found that the crash happened when it tried to look at the mold shape as soon as the starts pouring any metal inside. I will try to fix the clay mold crafting soon. Thanks for the reports.

My current game version is 1.21.0-rc.4. It appears that this was a bug in a game update rather than a new rule in the code. Now the old molds that were broken in 1.21.0-rc.1–1.21.0-rc.3 (maybe even earlier, we didn't notice right away) work again.

I'm testing this on an old mod that hasn't been updated in a while. I remade the arrow molds, fired them in a pit and in a beehive furnace. I was able to set the molds on the floor and pour molten metal into them. I was also able to get finished items from the molds. This old mod doesn't work with the new fired clay colors and doesn't work with red clay. This mod didn't work in 1.21.0-rc.1–1.21.0-rc.3, but became fully functional in 1.21.0-rc.4. Maybe this information will be useful.

Regarding your Alchemy mod. The new molds of different colors look great! But I couldn't test how they are fired in the Hive Furnace. The ability to sculpt from raw molds and molds of raw clay is gone. I don't see these objects when choosing molds for sculpting. I have old molds (the ones that couldn't be placed on the floor, I didn't throw them away) - there's nothing wrong with these molds, they can be used. The molds from creative mode are also fine.

The_Librarian I have added to alchemistry bullet point that it's outdated now. I really do like the idea of alchemistry but I don't think I would have the time to update it. I'm leaving it in the description just in case somebody is using old versions of VS.

Alchemistry seems to be outdated and abandoned, which is a shame because I loved the idea of more complicated and "realistic" potionmaking. Perhaps it would be the best to remove it from the description, for the time being. I believe that it would make this mod so much more interesting if we had a successor to Alchemistry, perhaps as an official submod. But even if not- thank you for your great work.

AnniPicto Your right place molds is causing a crash on v1.21.0-rc.1. I will look into this in the next couple of days, to see if I can fix it for this mod but it might be a base vintage story problem. It could just be something small has been reworked and the old way no longer works. Thanks for the report.

v1.21.0-rc.1 The game crashes when I place the hook and top shelf molds on the floor. This is not unique to your mod. Mods with liquid metal molds (which we tried) crash when placing a mold on the floor. Something changed in the base game code (but I didn't see it in the patch notes, or I misunderstood). Maybe someone should tell Tyron that the mold mechanic is broken in all mods with molds. Maybe you (as the author of such a large mod) know better than me what happened and what to do.

P.S. I understand that you don't update for every pre-release version. I'm writing about this bug in case you need such feedback.

fadeyy Sorry for the late reply. You mix in a barrel the recall base and a litre of potion tea. Seal it and wait a day. The recipe should be in the handbook. Although some servers don't like the recall potion and will disable the potion but not the recall base so check with server admins if its not working and your on a server.

Aimli_ I will look into the nutrition potion works properly. It's supposed to equalize your nutitrition values with a slight reduction of overall nutrition, to allow you to get nutrition for foods you don't have. At the moment you can check the current potion effects if you turn on the Alchemy hud and hover over it. Might come back to this later and see if I can add the effects on the character menu. VS updated not that long ago. I will check it out soon.

Aesonne Wearing armour doesn't affect healing effectiveness of potions. There is a option in the json to switch to use healing effectiveness of armour though. Look inside the files at assets\alchemy\itemtypes\liquid\potionportion.json. Look for "ignoreArmour" and replace true with false for both times or just for the section of *-regen-*.

Are healing potions still follow vanilla healing methods with efficiency dumped wearing heavy armors? If so is there a way to go around that? (Like bandages 100% balanced that you cant apply them wearing plate armor, but potions work kinda different, you know)

MystXeno Not sure why you also have this problem. It seems that some mod has an incompatbility with my mod or something.

CountBagel The only difference between the three flask sizes is the amount of liquid it can hold. Small can hold 0.25L, Medium can hold 0.5L and Large can hold 1L. Everytime you drink a potion you will always use 0.25L. So Large means you can drink from a full flask four times. Probably best to just make large flasks but left in the other flasks for the decoration also because drinking from large flasks can be strange with stacking flasks in your inventory.

For anyone having the problem with potion base crafting here's an example. If you can't craft this then it's most probably a mod conflict.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but using any type of mortar and pestle from the mod and a horsetail and any other poison mushroom, doesn't work, I can't make a basic potion base no matter which combo of poison mushroom + horsetail, and I thought the issue was alchemistry but after removing it, I still can't craft it.

Norbix The latest update should stop you from recalling when using a sail boat. You can still do it the base game recall device.

Akaston If anything starts to spoil then I don't think it can be cured/dried or ripened. I have updated the herb rack with the latest release to use the base game drying calculation for if it's in a room without exits.

TSense Not sure what you mean. The small flask should allow you to drink one use of a potion where a large flask should allow you to drink four uses. Is drinking from a large flask using all of the potion?

Kyzan Cheers for clearing up the misunderstanding. Alchemistry is a great expansion of this mod but I do see plenty of people struggling with the crafting of potions. For anybody using alchemistry remember that it nearly completly changes all of the crafting recipes for potions.

AnniPicto In the latest update I have added textures to all cuttings to use their corresponding flowers texture on the bits at the end. So nearly every cutting will look different now. It's not the best system for it because some bits will probably look like it's missing parts but it should be alot better than the previous texture. I wish I could get the flasks into the "A Culinary Artillery" but it seems to be pretty much hard coded into the holder to only use the "A Culinary Artillery" bottles. Glad you like the mod.

Is it possible to make the cuttings more varied in color? My lab only has blue flowers and very rarely white ones. I think that's very strange. Especially golden poppy, catnip and red lupine.

It also seems logical that the smallest flasks fit into the jar holder from the "A Culinary Artillery", visually they match the size of these holders.

Otherwise, thank you. Your mod is very interesting. We rarely drink potions, but we really enjoy the process of making them and creating the atmosphere. "Lavoisier" also complements the mod very well. The lab is always the most beautiful room in our house.

Suggestion for a new utility potion: something for restoring a body temperature. Unfortunately, we have no "hot" plants, but, may be charcoal can be one of ingredient for base. Fat can be other.

Nevermind, it's on alchemistry's end, and it isn't a bug, both potions are considered "utility" potions, and therfore need to use a different setup : Boiling flask -> reflux column -> retort neck -> bowl. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

Just made some healing potions and noticed something strange. A small flask takes 0.25 liters and a large flask takes 1 liter of healing potion, but both heal 1 HP every 3 seconds for 30 seconds, making the large flask 4 times as expensiv

I am having an issue with making the hooks for the rack. I poured in 200 units of lead and after it cooled, I only got one hook even though there are 8 slots. I tried a second time with another 200 unites of lead and again only got one hook. What do I need to do to correct this? I wanted to make a copper one but I dont want to risk wasting all of the copper.

Hazeron I'm not sure, I have never looked into the butchery mod. I assume it will work though. I use the same sort of system as what the vanilla class system uses with most potions. If choosing the hunter class gives an increase when using the butchery mod then I would assume so would the Hunter's delight.

llama3013 A Culinary Artillery, Alchemy, Expanded Foods, Expanded Matter, From Golden Combs, Medieval Expansion Patch, Primitive Survival, Sammiches, Wild Farming Revival, The Working Classes.
A few others, but mostly things like the Bed Respawn, Useful Traders, etc. that shouldn't affect blocks...

It's just weird because the racks/flasks work fine single player with the same modlist loaded.
I might have to run a very fine-toothed comb through the server files when I next get a chance.

llama3013 I'm having the opposite experience to Seyha in regards to A Culinary Artillery bottles.
On the small dedicated server I'm running for a few mates with a handful of mods, I can't get potions out of barrels using the Alchemy flasks, only the ACA bottles work.
I also have issues with the herb racks, it highlights the entire rack when you look at it instead of the individual hooks. (The same goes for the other players)
Both issues are only on the server, and everything works fine in my singleplayer tests with the same mod list loaded.

I've looked through every server config in there and I'm unsure if I'm just missing something, or if there's a conflict with A Culinary Artillery/Expanded Foods, etc.
Have you had any similar issues reported before?

Turns out most of the bottle rack is hardcoded to just use the expanded foods bottles, so it will require a bit of work with l33tmaan's end but I might look into it again later.

Seyha Getting the potions to work with other containers is tricky due to the way I setup how it calculates the effects and applies them. I will try to look into it though. With the bottle racks holding potion flasks though i'm assuming that should be easier and I will look into it but it might be something that the author of expanded foods will have to update.

warpStory Thanks, Yeah the potion icon isn't the best. I don't think I want to change it though because I think if I did show effects on the screen at all times it could take up most of the screen. I mostly made the hud icon to help debug effects. I figure it's helpful to just know a potion is active.

Suggestion, the PotionHud icon isn't useful. I have to hover over the icon to see anything which defeats the purpose of having something in my hud. I suggest just using a simlar table / list to display the active effects.

Francya_Vanh Golden poppy is quite rare. Apparently its only found in areas that's temperature is on average 22-25 degrees celsuis and has good amount of rain from what I glimpsed from the vintagestory files.

Usually the problem is related to the runner's potion. but sometimes this happens with other potions.
there are no completely white or pink textures, I did not notice.
sometimes it happens that barrels of potions become invisible and when you click on them, the game crashes. but this happens extremely rarely.

Francya_Vanh Damn still have this problem. Still not 100% sure how this crash happens but I think the root cause is too many texture images being loaded. Installing Bigger Texture Atlas usually fixes the problem. Although I have never seen the crash on such a small modlist and I tested with your modlist and it looks to be plenty of room left over. Do you know which potion is in the barrel that you are trying to take? Do all potions have this problem? Does any of the textures look completly pink or white?

would you be able to make a potion that hides the players nameplate? (while players crouch it hides it, so code for hiding the name plate exists.) using silver/gold dust could allow such a potion to be semi expensive.

To access this option you have to edit the alchemy mod's json files. To do this just go to a file inside the mod's folder of {alchemy_1.*.*}/assets/alchemy/liquid/potionportion.json search for for something called "ignoreArmour" in this file (it should be underneath regen and poison), either remove the line or change the true to false. To turn off this feature for herb balls as well you will also need to go to {alchemy_1.*.*}/assets/alchemy/herbball.json and do the same thing.

GalloViking Cheezboi9 I have added the option to have healing/poison potions to ignore armour. By default the mod has it on but can be turned off if the setting is removed. I did not go with Cheezboi9's suggestion although I might add it in at a later date or something similar. Might even have potion drinking cancel if you are hit by an enemy but not sure if that would just be annoying.

I second what GalloViking said about the potions not being affected by healing reduction. A balance suggestion could be making it so that if you get hit, perhaps a debuff that makes it take longer to consume potions or just reduce efficacy of said potions for a set period could be an option.

Would it possible for healing potions to bypass the healing effectiveness reduction given by armor? I can understand a bandage being less effective when applying it on a piece of armor, but a potion that you drink should not be affected by it.

NukoSan I figured somebody might want it if all their food is about to expire and they want to eat it. I figured it might be helpful for getting extra nutrition by eating alot of food but not sure how the game calculates the loss of nutrition so it might not even help.

SioxGWolf The latest update that is only for the pre-release, is exactly the same as the previous update but it works for the pre release. No new content were added and there was some small fixes but they rely on the pre-release version of the game.

Hi! Love the mod so far! Have been using it along with Alchemistry and it's been great!
I'm wondering how possible it would be to make the mortar and pestle work similarly to how the mixing bowl in A Culinary Artillery works, where you put in the ingredients and then hold right click on the subject placed on the table or ground to grind them up. Would make the process a lot more immersive.

If anyone encounters an error like Pvt_Prometheus as far as I know it's to do with too many mods with large textures causing the max texture atlas size to be exceeded and the unique way of rendering potion flasks. I have done my best to mitigate the crashes but I never could recreate the crash on my machine. My only reccomendations are to lower your modlist or to use Bigger Texture Atlas mod which might cause a performance hit.

Hei, we play on a server, and we were able to reproduce this bug reliably.

when a potion is consumed, and then the vial filled with something else, like water, and consumed, we get a potion effect. Ephka drank sprinters flask, then wine, and got speed. I tested recall, then filled vial with water, and recieved glowing, which is a potion i drank a while ago. so, it seems to only apply to potions giving a lasting effect rather than an instant use.

merryclefairy Sorry about that. I will remove the old compatability patch from alchemy in the next patch and at the moment I don't think I will add any new patch for wildcraft. I will update this page to not link to it. I might add a compatibility patch when wildcraft spices/herbs is at a stage that they say is done but right now it says it's incomplete.

Any idea why this might be happening. crashes when a filled potion flask is loaded in any inventory that i interact with that has one. even if someone holds one in the world and i load it on the screen its an instant crash to desktop with that error report.

I noticed the Wildcraft dependency is the old version that isn't being supported anymore. There are new Wildcraft/fuits & nuts, etc, that also use Herbarium I guess? Are there any plans to update this mod to be compatible with the newer version of Wildcraft/etc? Thank you. I just felt like, so stupid until I came to the mod page and happened to click the Wildcraft link and see that it was the unsupported version, because nothing was making dry cuttings. TwT

Chrizzlybear Thanks for this report. Yes the medium strength (excluding healing oil and spiked oil) potions were being incorrectly being calculated for some time. Should be fixed in the latest update.

Jenpai I tested both medium and strong healing oil. They appear to have the right values set. Do you have any armour equipped? Healing effectiveness can be lowered due to armour and it does change how much you heal much like the vallina game's poultice.

Ghaelen Settling and purging are potions that decrease hunger rate and increase hunger rate. The description for the potion was wrong. I have fixed it in the latest relase.

Jenpai Moby_ Moby is correct I think and I'm not sure how to fix it other than rebalancing all of the liquid to use 0.1L of 0.25L. I don't think there is a way to disable liquid transfering to bowls or to set specific liquids to transfer at specific amounts.

Jenpai My guess is that it's because potions have 4 items per litre (so 1 item is 0.25L) and when shift+clicking with a bowl it's going to try transferring 0.1L, but it can't because that's smaller than one item

Inabikari Alchemycompat I have not tested this but somebody made a wildcraft compatibility mod. Currently I don't really have any plans for making new compatibility with wildcraft. Might do so in the future when wildcraft: herbs and spices is finished or when they say the mod is polished. The mod page says that they are working on polishing the mod.

That problem occured while opening inventory , opening chest (containing potion) , holding the potion (also from having potion in hotbar) or simply from seeing potion in someones hands

Dnd and NateDoesLife This bug should be fixed in the new update. Thanks for the bug reports. The reason was when you finished drinking a potion, if the flask became empty and stayed in the same slot it would reset all of the effects that needs to be reset at the end of the duration.

llama3013 I tested the fix for never-ending potions and may have further figured out the bug which is still happening for me. When I drink a potion from a ceramic flask which only has .25 capacity for the speed potion (medium), the effects will not disappear. When drinking from a glass flask, the buffs do disappear except if I drank the last portion (only .25 portion left) from the glass flask, then the effects don't go away when they should. Hope this will help narrow down the problem.

StraudBeryl I tested this with the latest version of the mod and I was not able to cause a crash. So hopefully it's fixed now.

ManaWei hopefully the mod that Dekkan linked here https://news.kalataka.ru/show/mod/11503 should be compatible with wildcraft. (I haven't tested it though)

RomixERR The newest version of alchemy should fix this problem.

The tooltip on the Sprinter's Flask (medium) states it lasts for 300 seconds. On my multiplayer server running 1.19.5, the buff does not wear off until relog. The text pops up saying 'You feel the effects of the potion disapate', but my walk speed does not change. I see on your description it says potion effects dissappear after dying or restart, but does that mean it is supposed to last that long past the stated timer, or is it really supposed to wear off after the timer runs out?

We think it has something to do with the mesh of the potion conflicting, since Vintage Story as of version 1.19.4 has changed it.

So not sure if its an error with the HUD icon or not but when the potion were's off (atleast from the chat box) the icon remains and says you still have the boost going. 

Edit: I tested it and it SEEMS you continue to get the boosted effects with the HUD up even after the potion were's off in the chat. IF you don't use the HUD it seems the potion were's off normally.

Chesoku I have updated the mod which should hopefully fix your problem. Potion effects should now only check values for the hud when the hud is active and be more efficent with checks.

I just wanted to let you know, it looks like your old Wildcraft compatability recipes will not work anymore with the new refactor for Wildcraft into the separate modules. They changed the namespace to "wildcraftherb" now instead, and added some more herbs in the recent release as well.

Seems to be in an issue in 1.19 where when you put the flask (filled or unfilled) on the ground it shows there as invisible. You are able to pick it up but shortly after it bugs and its like you lost the flask completely until you restart your world. I've only tried this with small glass flask so far.

I added this mod to a server of mine a couple days ago, and a few of my users have all reported occasional lag spikes as a result.
Having them run debug commands and send them to me, I am getting some results showing that this mods hud, even if not actually active, is causing problems for them.

Hypnotique Sorry for the late reply but the wild farming just makes the flowers renewable. As long as your okay with rare flowers being harder to get more of and traveling longer distances for more flowers. From my experience it works fine without it.

Corvix Most potions last only 10 minutes and have their description tells you how long they last. If they are still giving the effects after the time limit then thats a bug. I have had one instance that skipped the removal of the effects but I think that was because I was lagging and I think it skipped the thread it was on. It was annoying to track down exactly what happened. If this is happening constantly let me know your mod list and steps to reproduce the problem and I might be able to fix it.

Will there eventually be a decay time on when the potion effects disapear? i think them lating until death or restart is definetly a bit too strong. maybe making at most the strongest lasting only around 10 minutes? and have most start at a small timer but depending on th emix to make it more potent increases the effect time up to a mx of 10?

Try looking at the ground when drinking.  We noticed last night that when using potions, we couldn't drink them if we were looking at certain things, like Grass or Doors, or if we were just looking into the air, but if we looked at blank ground we could drink.
Not sure why, maybe there is some interaction with a surface, similar to when placing certain objects?

I went over to the discord forum post to see if there where any others with a similar issue. I read that player Zolgrim had a few odd issues on a multiplayer server. I only play with myself and a friend occasionally so i cant say about the other things they mentioned but the throwing the potions on the ground and picking them back up seems to make them drinkable, sometimes i have to do it each time i want to drink it. I have the potion HUD up so i am certain there is no current affects on me. I am using the english version. No rush, i am fortunate that i can just jump into creative to drink and switch back to survival as a temp work around.

Rapidash Sorry to hear that. Are you using a different language in game? I had to change the condition on whether you can drink a potion in a recent update because drinking utility potions weren't working when using russian translation so maybe something went weird there. When a character leaves the world they should have all of their existing effects removed, so not sure why this would persist after server restart. Creative mode shouldn't affect being able to drink potions. Also turn on the potion hud if you can to see if you still have effects active (default key to turn it on is "[").

I am currently away from home and won't be back until after christmas sometime, so I won't be able to look into exactly what went wrong until then.

@llama3013 - After running the new 1.6.19 version of the mod with the error reporter turned on, I noticed quite a few tesslation errors related to the herb ball textures. Like, all of 'em. Just figured I'd let you know. Wish I knew how to fix.

I found the problem for some reason when using Russian (and maybe other languages) it breaks all utility potions. These potions are recall, glow, water breathing and nutrition flasks. I am not sure exactly why this is happening but I will try to look into it and maybe fix some of the hardcoded English on the way. AcceLerator

Hi all found out that Simple Alchemy mod is incompatible with this mod. At the current release (1.6.16) of this mod I would reccomend to only use this mod or simple alchemy mod because all potions do not work when simple alchemy is enabled.

XurxoMF Do you mean potion base's? I was working on having diferent textures for each potion base, based on the flowers it uses. Might try to get that done sometime soon.

SoloBlood All potions do have a description in the handbook and on the potion itself. Do you have the simple alchemy mod enabled?

Could you make different textures and/or shaper for the different potions? All of them have the same texture, a green strange thing, and it's a pain having to go through all of them reading the name to find the one you want...

It's just a suggestion, if it's not possible is understandable ^^

BranTuna There is a posibility I will try to do this but at the moment, I haven't been doing much with this mod. If I get motivated in the future then I will give it a go but there seems to be bugs still with the current state of the mod that will take priority.

 

Such as the recall flask not working for JunidO and water breathe flask for Hevil. I have tried using both potions on my single player save and new world and for me the potions are still working fine. So I am really not sure why this is happening.

@llama3013 - I saw on the Lavoisier mod page that it's possible to create brewing/distilling recipes with the JSON mod format. I was thinking... Would it be possible for a separate release version of this mod that integrates with ChemLib/Lavoisier for the potion recipes, as opposed to using the barrel? I'm familiar with utilizing JSON, but not at all familiar with VS's modding or the format/layout it uses, but would love to see this if at all possible. I am aware that there's a simple alchemy mod, but it looks very much incomplete and no longer utilizes Lavoisier's crafting mechanics in the recent updates.

szynian I tried to do a overhaul of crafting and make it use a cauldron but never got around to finishing it, plus it was pretty buggy. I have the code for that change on another branch on my github if anybody wants to try to finish it but I sort of gave up on it.

Hi, this mod is awesome, although as it is in the description it's a little bit overpowered, especially when it comes to making potions. Personally, I think that adding actual brewing would be a very nice addition. It could use cauldrons from "A Culinary Artillery" mod, or mod itself could add some kind of cauldrons or brewing kettles. This would also add such immerse in making those potions :)

Kaofan That should be fine the game handles it gracefully 95% of the time, but I will do a small cleanup of that regardless.
Inabikari Not sure how that would ever happen but I will look into it regardless. I don't do anything special for compatibility with wild farming. Also I will update the mod description to use the latest wild farming mod. Do you know exactly the steps to recreate the problem? Which healing oil (herb ball, medium or strong strength)? Also do you have a large amount of mods maybe another mod is interacting with it.

The newest update of Wild Farming has a bug with Alchemy where the healing oil flask damages you roughly equal to the amount healed, resulting in a health total close to before drinking it in the first place. I have no idea how this interaction even exists.

llama3013 I've tried that already, but it surprisingly didn't work. I'm still going with the hotfix to delete the german language file. Next thing I'm going to try out is rewrighting it, using the en.json, may be that would work. It's on my schedule, but not this month anymore.

Exmortis Glad that it is fixed and thanks for testing and confirming it. Without feedback like this it's hard to know if things really are working or not.

Chaebennon Potion bases probably do look weird becauses I just used the shape of rot and the textures of grass and temporal gear. If its pink or transparent something is broken.

Screwy Sorry for the late reply on this but my best guess on whats breaking if it is the german language file as the cause, would be the guide at the bottom might be the cause. So maybe just delete the last two entries of the de.json file. I have no idea how this would break the alchemy mod though.

Okay, I'm getting close to it. The problem is in the language data. I'm playing in german and can't drink potions on v1.6.13 or higher, as long as there is a de.json in the lang folder. Something must be messed up there. I could come up with a fixed de.json, but that would be of little help for everyone who is not German and doesn't want to play in English.

I don't know if it's because of culinary artillery, but I can't drink any of the potions. Please help! I would love to finally get startet with potions on my server.
I have a waterbreathing potion in a small potion flask and try to drink, but rightklicking in the air does nothing. Rightklicking an walls or the floor will do the drink animation, but not give any effects, nor consume any potion.
I think I remember it working, but that was before some minor version updates of some mods, including this one.

All of the potion bases seem to have a weird teal texture that looks broken. Is that how they normally look, or is something busted on my end?

Edit: It seems all of the herb cuttings are also bugged out except for daisies.

I had the exact same problem as Vortaine, doing a debug log showed a gui issue with the Alchemy Mod every few seconds, taking about 40-50ms to resolve.
This doesn't appear to be occuring after your update, and I am no longer getting the regular FPS spike.

Vortaine I have updated what is hopefully a fix for you problem. I couldn't recreate a noticeable lag spike but I did notice a small lagspike because of the potion hud opening on startup. So I turned off the potion hud on startup and if potion hud is opened manually it did not cause any lagspikes.

Dear llama3013,

I've run into a substantial bug that has required me to remove your mod.  For some reason with only your mod installed (tested with 70 other mods and then only yours installed on a fresh install) I am encountering a perfect heartbeat-like lagspike while turning.  The problem also becomes less of a dip per "heartbeat" while I have another window opened over the top of the game.  I will post a screenshot of this activity:

I have also done a lot of testing on my own graphics settings in my NVIDIA settings as well as in-game to try and mitigate this issue.  I finally caved and started mod sorting to find out that it was your mod causing this issue.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to gather information for bugtesting.  I love your mod, it adds so much to the game, thank you very much for your time and effort for creating this content and I hope you will be able to fix this issue.

Burneddi This isn't a watermark its a hud for when you use a potion, it will tell you the effects you currently have active when you hover over it with your mouse. You can turn it off if you don't want it. The default key to turn off is [ or ] if you want to move where it is. If the keys don't work you can check your controls. It should be underneath the heading "User interface".

  Para hacer pociones necesitarás algunas cosas. Primero necesitarás frascos de poción, segundo necesitarás un mortero y mano y, por último, necesitarás flores/hierbas (las hierbas solo son accesibles cuando tienes instalado el mod de cultivo silvestre).
 
  <i>Frascos</i>
  
  Hay 3 frascos de diferentes formas y 5 colores diferentes.
 
  Las diferentes formas y colores no afectan las pociones, son solo por apariencia. Si no te importa la apariencia, recomendaría el <a href=\"handbook://block-alchemy:potionflask-normal-quartz-raw\">frasco</a> de cuarzo con forma normal.
  
  Aquí hay una lista de diferentes tipos de <a href=\"handbooksearch://potion flask\">frascos</a>.
 
  <i>Mortero & Mano</i>
 
  Se requiere mortero y mano para moler las flores/hierbas en bases de pociones. Puedes crear dos tipos diferentes de <a href=\"handbook://item-alchemy:mortarpestle-wood\">madera</a> o <a href=\"handbook://item-alchemy:mortarpestle-stone\">piedra</a>
 
  <i>Bases de Poción</i>
 
  Necesitarás <a href=\"handbook://item-alchemy:potionbase-basic\">Base de pocion basica</a> para hacer cualquier poción. La base de una poción está hecha de hongos de agárico de mosca, flor de cola de caballo y un mortero & mano.
  Para hacer una base de poción que no sea la versión básica, necesita dos flores/hierbas específicas diferentes que combine con un mortero & mano.
  Ejemplo: <a href=\"handbook://item-alchemy:potionbase-regen-weak\">Base de pocion curativa</a>.
 
  Puede aumentar la fuerza de la poción, lo que aumentará los efectos de la poción. Para hacer mejores bases de pociones de fuerza necesitarás combinar tijeras con la flor/hierba deseada que te dará esquejes crudos.

NateDoesLife The flask sizes did change, the handbook description is probably a bit old.If you want to change the size of the bottles manually you should be able to edit the json file located inside the mod with the path of resources\assets\alchemy\blocktypes\flasks\potionflask.json. open that up with a text editor and you can increase the number next to capacity litres to increase the amount each flask can hold.

Also I had a quick question. I see the flask sizes in the handbook are "just for looks" but yet they take a different amount of the liquid .25/.50/1 litre of the potion? Is there anway for it not to do this since there is no change in use's as you get more out?

NateDoesLife Yeah I have had some cases of the effect not dissapearing from the hud, it was inconsistent so it was hard to track down. From what I can tell though the effects are still working. I did a quick test with vitality flask and potent oil both worked fine and saw them update in the character menu stats. I might look into today or tomorrow.

Might be a bug, but on multiplayer the icon that says you have a potion effect does not go away even after the 600secs until a player logs off and back on. Not sure if the buff is still applied or not.

Just reaching out to say how much i've been enjoying playing with this mod. The gameplay that this adds is awesome; I'm intentionally playing without the ability to farm flowers, and as a result I'm running all over the world and finding flowers.

l33tmaan it's not a bad idea, if you want users to have these effects only when alchemy is installed but an easier and probably better implementation of stat boosts would be buffstuff library. If you do plan on going through with it let me know if you need any help.
TheNiteFox The pestle & mortar is an item and cannot be placed on the ground. It used to be a block that you could place but it messed up durability of the tool. To use it, you crafting menu. You can place it on shelves if you want it there for looks.

Hey l33tmaan, You will need to add/edit an itemclass to whatever drink you want to have effects. You need to read the drink's effects from the json on interactstart and stop methods, then send it to the TempEffects. If you want to discuss anything you can message me on discord.

Too much ids still can affect performance a lot, though no longer affect loading times (thanks to 1.17), but definitely can affect RAM consuming as well.

I think this was the reason why Tyron made shields the way he made it

Kirona Sorry but I don't think I have the time to do that. Wildcraft or wild farming should help when they are updated. I haven't even looked at the latest prerelease yet, so its just lucky that it is working with the latest prerelease.

Craluminum Thats a cool way of doing things but I don't think it will be worth the effort and I don't know if its even that much of a performance increase. Plus all the herb racks would still have wouldn't have ported to the new version and I don't want to break them porting over yet again. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Would it be possible to make the various herb cuttings also act as seeds for those herbs, so I don't have to get a different mod for that? Right now Wild Farming isn't actually working for the 1.17rc updates, while Alchemy still does seem to work.

You could use something like ItemShield does, it allows to convert 999999 variants into 1-4 block id.

Hi, all I have released a new update, it will not use as much ram but the problem is it will break existing herb racks. The problem was that there was thousands of herb rack variants so I trimmed them down. I can't remap them (as far as I know) since there are so many variants.

Hey Mamessu, thanks for the bug report. I know of the potion flasks while stacked will not use up any potion portions. I am slowly working on finding what changed in the latest vintage story update that has caused this. I did not know of the empty flask into barrel bug, I am assuming it is related to the other bug.

Hey there! There are a couple duplication bugs you should know about.

1) If you have two of the same potion flasks in your inventory, and drink a portion of one and then restack the flasks, the potion portions will refill. You can have infinite portions this way.

2) If you try to empty the contents of a medium potion flask into a barrel, the level in the barrel will go up, but the contents will not empty, making infinite potions.

Cannot fire clay potion bottles - unable to construct pit kiln while raw potion flask is in the pit. Clicking with straw just does nothing.

First time testing out the mod and it works nicely on 1.16

Only issue I've found for now is that attempting to put an empty fired ceramic flask on a shelf causes a CTD. Haven't tested with a full one, only when empty. Not going to post a crash log because the crash is very easy to replicate. Crash happens both on worlds created with the mod enabled and pre-existing worlds. If not else, crash doesn't persist and you get rolled back to your previous autosave. Tests were done on both creative and survival mode, but both on an originally creative world.

Pervy_Sage, Yes it Appears that wild farming is not updated to the latest version yet. You can still make potions without wild farming and herbs but it does make it harder to find ingredients for potions at this time.

It looks like Wild Farming is broken for 1.16. I downloaded Wild Farming first since the discription said it was required for the herbs and it has issues that cause crashes.

Hey all, this update to alchemy v1.5.0 changes a lot so let me know if there are any bugs or problems that arise from it. Also my next update will hopefully be a full rework of the crafting recipes and potion effects. Lastly the guide is outdated and I will add to it in the next update.
