ATTN: With the update adding compat. with HoD, the satiety has been changed up. It no longer gives satiety, in fact, you lose some. However, you still get the slowed hunger drain effect. And now, you get some hydration with it!

Bring a touch of civilization to the survival grind with the Coffee Mod. From bush to brew, this mod adds a full coffee chain: grow it, roast it, grind it, and sip it. Coffee is more than just flavor—it’s survival fuel.
🌱 The Coffee Journey

Wild Coffee Bushes
Coffee plants spawn naturally in tropical climates. The exact spawn chance, climate, and conditions can be customized in the mod’s config file. -
Harvesting Beans
Pick the bushes for raw beans. -
Roasting
Roast beans in a firepit until they turn a rich brown. -
Grinding
Use a quern to grind roasted beans into fresh coffee grounds.
⚒️ Crafting Essentials

Clay Coffeepot – shape it from clay, then burn it in a kiln.

Tankard Cup – crafted in the grid, perfect for a single serving.

Wooden Bucket – to hold larger amounts of brew.

Barrel – for bulk brewing when you’re ready to scale up.
🔥 Brewing Process

Place 1L of water and 1 coffee grounds into the coffeepot.

Heat it in the firepit until brewed.

Remove the pot:

Pour into a bucket for storage, or
-
Pour directly into a cup for instant enjoyment.

For serious production, use the barrel to process coffee in bulk.
DO NOT POUR ON THE GROUND. As of right now you will crash. I am trying to fix that. Also, you cannot set the pot down when full. You must pour it into a receptacle.
⚡ Buffs & Effects
Drinking coffee grants temporary buffs that make survival just a little easier:

Warmth Support: Coffee does not instantly restore warmth. Instead, it slows down body temperature loss, buying you precious time in cold environments.

Hunger Support: Coffee slows your hunger drain, keeping you full longer.
Buff values (duration, warmth boost, hunger slowdown, etc.) are fully adjustable in the mod’s config file.
Note: Buffs do not currently appear in the vanilla tooltip UI, but they are active and running in the background as long as the effect timer lasts.
⚙️ Customization
The mod includes a config file that allows you to tweak:

Hunger and warmth multipliers
Tailor coffee to your server’s survival balance, whether you want it as a mild perk or a serious advantage.

I'm also experiencing the issue where the game crashes when I try to pour water out of a coffee pot. I'm in Multiplayer, game version v1.21.4. Crash report is below.

coffee pot is really glitched. And I don't recommended to make that. In inventory - 2 lanterns, 4ground coffee disapear, what I know.. Starting with 2 pots.. finishing with 3 in inventory..

Might you consider renaming your filename to include the full name of your mod? The modding community seems to have adopted a standard of doing this to make it easier to identify a mod by its filename. Yours was the only one of about 55 mods that i am running that isn't named so that it is obvious what mod it is.

Can confirm the exact same issues that Coneva reported below. For what it's worth, we're running a few other mods that might affect things, such as A Culinary Artillery, Expanded Foods, and Make Tea Forked. I also ran into issues with trying to place a full pot of coffee down (it would flat out refuse on certain surfaces).

Hi, I love the idea of this mod, but we ran into a couple issues on our small server. The coffee bushes seem to have a visual glitch where they appear to "blink"- like the movement is maybe a little off. that's not a problem though. There seems to be something off with the buffs- satiety goes down a bit down as it stated in the description/info, but the hunger rate does not seem to slow? instead it showed us that hunger rate increases by 1% (e.g. 133% to 134% after drinking it). the other BIG issue we are having is that dumping coffee from the pot onto the ground (sad, I know, don't waste coffee) crashes the game. A couple of us tested it and same happened "critical error". Thoughts?

The mod is well thought out and well done, except I don't understand why you'd go through so many steps to make a coffee that, instead of giving you something good,
only makes you hungry and takes away your life. I don't understand. Can't you make it give you some positive saturation?

KritterBizkit Correction: The crash is caused by emptying the filled pot on the ground. Cant place either. Speaking of the pot, is there any chance we can get a metal kettle? (And compat with the Make Tea mod to be able to use any to make the brews-)
not gonna lie, this one is sitting on my list to try out. few more updates to smooth it out and I'll be having some sweet sweet bean squeezins.
RuinousLibrarian, Thank you. I'm working on the text strings. It's being stubborn. The crash when putting a filled pot down I did not know about. It never let me even put it down. I had to pour into a vessel first then put it down. I'll work on that.
The coffee liquid and the coffee pot names are code strings instead of text and putting down the pot while filled causes a crash. Other than that, peak mod, I'm hyped I can finally drink coffee.

AnniPicto,This is actually my first mod, ever. I'm trying to learn as well. The slow load times were from my "itemtypes" images. The beans and the grounds. The file sizes were just over 1mb, but the real lag came from the image size. they were all 1024x1024. They were supposed to no bigger than 64x64. Simple as that..LOL
I checked the mod updates today. The loading started working fine. I'm still testing the rest (I don't have much time today).
If you have time, could you tell me what caused the slow loading? I'm also just starting to learn how to write mods and this could be very useful for me.
I also want to suggest a couple of ideas, maybe you'll find them good. Ground coffee can be given a shape like flour and a similar (brown) texture. It seems like this is how it can be done:
Ground coffee and coffee beans can be allowed to be stored on the floor and on shelves. This will allow players to set up coffee shops

The warmth buffs are not working in the most recent version.
Looks like the CoffeeBuff behaviour is not used in any of the JSON files.
Currently in 1.21, whenever it's cooking in a pot it's called, "Meal-normal-brew-coffee". And when you have the cooking pot with the coffee in it, it has a very odd names like that and overlapping text. Then when scooping the coffee from the pot into a bowl, it just results in endless trying to eat it without any result
I really want to play with this mod. But for some reason this mod slows down the loading of the world very much and I'm worried that the problem may increase over time. (I have about 35 mods, but the loading lasts only 10 seconds, after adding the mod "Coffee" 55 seconds)
KritterBizkit I edited the json entries as you suggested and it works fine now. The lines with 'game' and 'survival' simply needed editing to read 1.20.12 and it will run.
cascarabias, Yep. They only spawn in Tropical climates.
Is wild shrub generation realistic? does it appear on the correct climate and biome? Coffee is a very important trade commodity, and i think it can make it more interesting to have it available on warmer climates that are further away from the default spawn

I have a separate release in the files tab for 1.20.12 that has all of the updates. I was unable to roll back to 1.20.12 to test it. If you download and install, please let me know how it works.
KritterBizkit Tried again, same results. For clarification, I am running 1.20.12. I have tried to install Vintage Coffee version 0.9.0 as it states compatibility with version 1.20.12. When I run the game, the errors state it is looking for files related to game version 1.21.0, requests to download and install the missing files and results in game crash. So from that, I'd say Vintage Coffee version 0.9.0 is not compatible with game version 1.20.12. However, following your suggestion, I modified the json game and survival versions and now the game seems to be running again.

KritterBizkit I'd love to give you one but there isn't anything. It's like the game doesn't even have time to make a log. It shows a login and then it cuts out mid load. I'll let you know if I find anything.
CtrlAltSilent, not sure why. I have it installed on my MP server and they have been using it for 3 days. It could be colliding with another mod that we aren't using. Some form of error log would be helpful if you could find one.
Just letting you know that I added this to my MP server and it causes an immediate CTD. No log, no nothing. Looking forward to having coffee in the future though.

I think in this version this kind of cooking recipes will not appear in handbook since they are not in /game folder..
You need to patch that or put recipes\cooking\brew-coffee.json to /game folder
Also when you drinking coffee it have a eating sounds not drinking..

I see HoD compat is a thing, but maybe Make Tea would be possible to use the tea kettle from that mod to brew coffee, and NeedSleep to recover energy and need to sleep less?. Absolutely peak content btw, I love coffee so Im super glad to see some.

Michaloid, Yeah, I already have some better drawings to put in the next update. Just trying to finish fixing a better way to roast the beans before I push an update. I've figured out how to roast them directly on the fire, but everytime I try to use a pan or pot or something, it crashes. I'm learning though. But thank you for the feedback.
Just a suggestion, i think it's not a bad thing to add more bean models to the coffee bean model. The grains in vanilla use at least a lot of little grains to fill the inventory slot and look appealing, and i think that the coffee bean could do the same as well.
The error has been fixed and some new png's for the beans and the ground coffee will be on the next release.

This is such a great idea for a mod, i can't wait to start using it.
I have a suggestion though. The sprite for the coffee bean, how about letting it show a bunch of beans at once and not just one? sort of like how berries are presented.
Please add Biomes mod compatability.
Since Coffee is orginally from Ethopia i would say set it as "Eastern Afrotropics".

LichKing34 I'm currently contemplating what to use for the grinding. The Mill Stone isn't a bad idea, though.
heyo just a thought but why not grind the roasted beans in a mill stone instead of in the crafting grid or making it more efficient in a grinder while keeping the ineffcient hand crafting recipe
traugdor, Yes, I am aware of that error. I will try to fix that in the future. As of now, only way to get coffee, is to brew it. You cannot creative mode give it to yourself. Honestly, it's growing pains for myself. I know what the issue is, but still studying on how to fix it..lol Still absolutely playable. Just no freebies of coffee..LOL You can, however, give yourself the beans and the grounds.
