Configuration file is located in VintagestoryData/ModConfig, it is appeared after loading any world.
Every tool now requires binding to craft (rope by default, configurable).
Automatic compatibility with any mod.
Currently it is patching recipes with 2 or 3 ingredients that output tool but don't have rope as recipe ingredient.

Any news on 1.21.5?
I wager it should be fine, but nothing hurts in asking.
Akaston for me it still works fine on 1.21.1.
Will it be updated to 1.21? Does it need updating or does it work perfectly?

ThatGuy69 That is not how it works. In config you see every tool has one item, so you can add only one item per tool, no commas allowed
I have been trying all day to get nails to work with this, so either config files just dont work or as i said before i just dont know what i am doing. So I might just give Tool Smith a go
Though this is what I tried to do if you or someone else is interested in letting me know what I did wrong.

Would be nice to be able use nails too instead of having to farm reeds all the time.
Though I did see you could add a binding to the config file but with the lack of info on how to do it, i couldnt figure it out
DarkThoughts In Dappled Groves doesn't have actual tools that the base game uses, so there is nothing I can do
It says "Automatic compatibility with any mod." but it does not seem to require rope for the tools from In Dappled Groves.

By the way, regarding the “metalnailsandstrips” section. What I meant by that is that you can't use the universal command “metalnailsandstrips-*” which would allow you to use all nails and strips for a recipe. Currently there is only one option, and that is to use a specific type of metal. E.g. "gold" - like you showed in your screenshot.
I've tried it with “metalnailsandstrips-*” but it seems not to be working.
That's the reason I asked, and maybe it's just a small adjustment on your end. I would be very grateful.

Edit: I've posted on MrFlame's modpage an issue and I can confidently say that many other recipes, that are not listed as a "tool" require a rope now. I strongly believe that there's an error in the new update of "ToolsrequireRope".

Btw it would be much appreciated if you could add nails and strips as a viable solution to the config. Your mod is the perfect counterpart to tools durability and I believe nails & strips would be just right for late game items like steel and iron.

DanaCraluminum Thank you for your quick response. The adze tool and the recipe for the mallet (from ancient tools - ver. v1.5.18) do not display a rope in the crafting grid.

For some odd reason it doesn't work with the ancient tools adze and mallet. Could you take a look into the the issue if you had a spare minute? I would very much appreciate it.

Is it possible to add an option of cordage and/or flax fibers/twine for the knapped tools and maybe flax twine as an option for the more advanced tools??
Can you add some sort of sanity check so that a single rope cant make tools. Currently I have guys running around with Cupernickel Paxels made from a single rope hahaha. It seems that a single rope is the recipe to make every paxel in the game, for some reason the cupernickel wins the clash.

Simple but a very good mod! I have been using it on my second playthrough and I feel it really improves the game, especially early game. Rope is actually useful now and it prevents spamming too many tools. Switching to better tool materials is even more useful since you go through less rope. Hope you keep this up to date!
@DanaCraluminum Its the wooden mallet mod. mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/7374. That might just be me though, if its not causing problems for you then it is me and I will be testing later too! That's also not the only one, I don't think, I'm just not at my computer right now

Unfortunately I think it is this mod that is breaking some modded recipes for me, and also the bow is just a stick on top of rope, will do more testing later, disregard this until then!
you should do cattails for flint tools and then the higher up it goes the better it needs, like rope or possibly twine, then maybe clay or mortar? I love this idea, also maybe a way to whittle the stick to the shape of a handle? I know this is all hard to do, just some suggestions though, if you could knap sticks, like 1-5 pixels hanging off of a relatively straight stick to break off and then a row of pixels at the top to make a notch for the tool head, that would be freakin awesome!

Except normally the recipe is four planks (2 and 2), four linen, and the paxel head. Could you add a blacklist config, so that we can prevent the mod from breaking non-standard tool recipes from other mods?
