This is my fourth mod. I was watching Nilhero on Youtube and they mentioned that they wanted to be able to place moss overlay blocks. Being a fan, and a fledling mod creator, I was happy to spend my day learning how to make it happen. Thankfully, I had the help of Freakyuser396 wjhen I stumbled on some json coding issues. Freaky was not only helpful, they were educational and helped me understand a better process to solve my own issues. What a Vintarian!

🌾 Why Moss-terpieceg?

Why not be able to slap some watered-down clay laced with plant matter onto a surface in order to jump=start moss production? Well now you can do just that. Well, you can't actually farm moss, but you can make a normally creative-only block overlay that adds the mossy effect to any exposed side of any block.

Moss overlay blocks are created using a process that requires you to first create clay paste by combining water and the equivalent amount of any clay in a barrel. Once you have at least one clay paste, simple surround it with vines to craft eight moss layers.  Careful those, you cannot pick these layers up once placed. You can only destroy them.

Whilte rumoured to be coming in the next version of Vintage Story, being able to place moss block overlays seems like something most survival players would like. I like to make things into some kind of a process, so I added the clay paste route to the final recipe to complicate matters for fun and balance, and I chose vines as the natural ingredient to to make vines a bit more uesful.

This mod's features have entirely been confirmed to be functioning both mechanically, as well as visually.

This mod is presented "as is" as I develop it for fun and to add something to the game I love to play. It is not a fully supported end-user product for Vintage Story; it's an ongoing work-in-progress. I actively want to solve issues if I can, but I must state that I do not accept responsibility for breaking your game save if you use my mods and it causes an issue for you. If I can fix it, I will. However, chosing to use any mod is on you, not me. Please keep that in mind when adding mods!

While I'm here, I'll also note that this mod is currently in development and as such, things may change. Features may be added, modified or removed. Only when it is released a full version will it be considered finished.

 

🧩 Credits: This mod was created from scratch by me. It did not use any code from other mods. The idea for this mod came from a request from the Vintage Storty Youtuber Nilhero. I got some help through some issues from Freakyuser396 in the VS Discord. Microsoft Copilot AI and Google Gemini helped with conceptial issues and research, as well provided image creation support. I also used Krita and MS Paint to customize images.
