This mod makes panning ore drops locational by storing prospecting density data in gravel and sand blocks whenever they get picked up. This data will merge and average automatically from blocks with different data, so it will not stop them from stacking.

By noting down the location and looking at their panning results, players can deduce prospecting data without the use of a prospecting pickaxe. Of course, this is more time consuming, but also more immersive, and great for playstyles where the map is disabled.

Wishlist:

  • Make system dynamically use all registered deposits and deduce their corresponding drop (including other gems and minerals). This is opposed to the current behaviour, which only alters the chance of existing panning drops.
  • Maybe a minimal config, such as an overall drop multiplier of drops modified by this mod for balance

Any chance this still works on 1.21? I'd love to see it updated.

💬 Ikaro, Aug 24th at 4:15 AM

Did some experimentation with the mod. Unfortunetly it doesn't seem to work with modded ores such as the ones in "Geology Additions" mod. I've done some panning 10 full blocks at some of the High-Ultra High locations of some of the modded ores but, no modded nuggets ever dropped. I understand that it takes the percentage of the density and gives that density percentage as a panning drop percentage (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Also, not sure if gold drops were altered in any way, since the pro-pick cannot show gold or silver densities, it just lets you know if there are traces of gold or silver as it is expressed in part per thousand, so panning for it would be pretty tough assuming my above logic.

Looking forward to the compatibilities. "We will watch your career with great interest :)"

Spikeball there's mods that edit the pan loot tables if you need to know how it's done, like "She pans seashells" or something like that. You have to json patch the pan itemtype json file. There's content modding tutorials on the vintage story wiki, including json patching tutorials.

"Should be compatible with mods that add nugget drops not in vanilla too" too bad I can't find a mod that only does this. I wounder how hard that would be to make... google didn't find me a Vintage Story modding tutorial for loot tables so probably not as easy as I hoped.

💬 LunaGore, Jul 15th at 9:52 PM

Gotcha thanks!

💬 jayu , Jul 15th at 4:55 PM

LunaGore nah it should, it only multiplies the corresponding nuggets' chance by the deposit density prospecting value. Doesn't touch other drops. Should be compatible with mods that add nugget drops not in vanilla too, it will just modulate those as well (as an example, a mod that makes native copper nuggets super easy to find will do nothing with this mod installed).

💬 LunaGore, Jul 15th at 4:02 PM

I'm going to guess this is not compatible with Pretty Little Things mod or others that affect panning drops?

💬 jayu , Jul 15th at 2:34 PM

SaltyWater Thanks! I wasn't thinking of working much on this mod so if you want to contribute or improve on it you're free to do so ;)

💬 SaltyWater, Jul 15th at 2:22 PM

really good mod! Gotta say, beat me to it! I was thinking ways to make the prospecting more immersive! Instant download for me!

jayu  Turns out im just stupid, sorry about that,    pantography not pannography

💬 jayu , Apr 13th at 12:52 PM

meegaaturk not sure what you mean with panning profile, or how you are looking that up. When exactly do you get "must look at chiseled block"?

This mod does not touch chiseling and only modifies the pan very slightly, nothing else.

💬 meegaaturk, Apr 13th at 10:23 AM

playing on 1.20.7, everytime i try to look at the panning profile it just says must look at chisled block.

even when i look a sand of gravel i have panned from i still cant find anything, am i missing something?

💬 Trungad, Apr 12th at 12:48 AM

When is full release?! Thats such a cool idea for a mod!

💬 Sodon, Apr 11th at 10:14 AM

Very clever idea!

💬 Wahazar, Apr 11th at 10:11 AM

Very interesting idea. It reminds me sluice from TerraFirmaCraft, where chance of nugget drop was related to local ore gen.

💬 jayu , Apr 11th at 12:59 AM

DecaByte it simply alters the chance of drops that have a corresponding ore based on the prospecting data at the location the gravel/sand/(whatever else when I make it configurable), was found. I am also debating adding to the drops dynamically using the deposits defined during worldge, so that there is no need to patch the pan drops to add nugget drops that do not normally drop from panning (withput patching that, this mod won't currently add those since it only modifies the chance of existing drops)

💬 DecaByte, Apr 11th at 12:07 AM

I'm really looking forward to this mod. Does this add its drops to the vanilla drops or replaces them?

💬 jayu , Apr 10th at 9:17 PM

Mendall it does not touch the prospecting pick. It simply makes the ore density data affect panning drops (the ones that are related to ores, such as nuggets)

💬 Aedis, Apr 10th at 8:48 PM

Awesome,

I was hoping that drops from blocks would depend on place from where they were sourced..

💬 Mendall, Apr 10th at 8:24 PM

Does this disable pro picking and replace it. Or work alongside it. And does this work in reverse. Say I propick an area and see there is gold in the area, so I'm more likely to get gold when panning sand from that area. This mod raises a lot of questions and offers a lot of possibilities.
