Haz's Monitor Lizards

Featuring the worlds biggest "dragon", the Komodo Dragon.

This mod adds 3 monitor lizards to the game, each found in climates akin to their IRL counterparts.

Komodo Dragons are the largest, and thus, most formidable of the three.

Bengal Monitors are the middle sized ones and more common than the other two.

Ackie monitors are the smallest and really are there to be cute.

I've included compatibility with Biomes, Butchering, and PetAI if you have those mods installed.
Note: If you'd like to feed Monitors with troughs, you'll need the Diverse Diets mod that lets you put meat into the troughs.

This is my fourth mod and is meant to challenge what i learned by adding jackalopes in my previous mod.

Making new animals from scratch is much more cumbersome than making variants of existing ones. I'm glad to have gone through this process to better understand what the amazing folk behind big creature mods like Draconis, or the Fauna of the Stone Age series.

Big thanks to Tentharchitect, Shintharo12, WhiskeySunshine, and PureWinter for sharing their knowledge and expertise as I was learning the steps.

With this, and the release of 1.21 to stable, I think I'd like my next project to be the start of my big end goal. So it may take me a bit.

Good work! Only found a bug - seems lizards can't go up even by 1 block

Love this mod and amazing models, though was wondering is there any way to increase their health? Was hoping to turn some komodo dragons into a hunting pack but at 7hp they get one-shot by just a single wolf, which seems a bit weak considering these guys take out water buffalo singlehandedly irl ^^;

Based monitor lizard enjoyer, will look forwards to seeing these when we get to the tropics.

h9st

i'm not sure, i haven't built it with tera prety in mind, but i also don't know if i need to do anything specific for worldgen if teraprety is installed.

Alrighty, thank you and I wanted to ask if this is compatible with teraprety

h9st - They have climate conditions similar to their IRL living conditions.

Komodos: "climate": { "minTemp": 24, "maxTemp": 38, "minRain": 0.75, "maxRain": 0.95, "minForest": 0.25, "maxForest": 1.0, "maxShrubs": 1.0, "minY": 0.0, "maxY": 1.6},

Bengals: "climate": { "minTemp": 21, "maxTemp": 38, "minRain": 0.2, "maxRain": 0.75, "minForest": 0.2, "maxForest": 1, "maxShrubs": 1, "minY": 1.1, "maxY": 1.6},

Ackies: "climate": { "minTemp": 20, "maxTemp": 40, "minRain": 0.1, "maxRain": 0.3, "minForest": 0.0, "maxForest": 0.5, "maxShrubs": 1.0, "minY": 1, "maxY": 1.1},

If you wish to change any of these feel free to open the mod up and go to the 'monitor.json' file in assets\hazmonitors\entities\animal\reptile\monitor\monitor.json
Look/Search/Find the "spawnconditionsByType" propertie and adjust them to be for climates that you're more likely to play in.

If you're playing with the "Biomes" mod:

Komodos: "pacific palearctic"

Bengals: "central palearctic","eastern palearctic","pacific palearctic"

Ackies: "Australasian"

💬 h9st, Sep 4th at 12:54 AM

Any specific spawning conditions for them to spawn like temperatures and such?

💬 LANDSEERS, Aug 29th at 3:49 PM

Finally! Dogs!

💬 MrApothic, Aug 29th at 3:29 PM

Yeah gotta admit this brings much joy\fear for me having one of these ankle biters hiding in the grass now makes me keep my area mowed now while I'm home steading.
