Welcome to Draconis
This mod aims to add a diverse range of dragon species that players can hatch, nurture, and eventually ride as majestic companions. Hidden across the land lie ancient dragon remains from a long-lost era, protecting dormant eggs that await a new bond.
Species currently included (1.1.0):
- The Maplewing Wyvern
- The Alpine Boneknapper Dragon
Important:
This mod has a couple dependencies that are required for it to work properly. Please make sure you've installed them before reporting issues ^^
Jaunt
If you are experiencing issues with your mount stopping and running in place and/or your camera snapping forward while riding this is due to the full attribute tree resync in the base game. It is more likely to happen the more mods you have installed but as a workaround you can try MountCameraFix mod which changes the max number of dirty paths before a full resync.

Always backup your save when adding/removing/updating mods!
Don't forget to install the dependencies.
Q: Where does the Maplewing spawn?
A: While fairly rare you'll mainly find there remains in temperate regions (0 - 20 celcius) with sufficient vegitation like shrublands and forests
Q: Where does the Alpine spawn?
A: While fairly rare you'll mainly find the eggs ontop of very tall snowcapped mountains
Q: How do I hatch the egg?
A: Just put it down somewhere, not too close to a wall though as they might have trouble hatching
Q: How long does it take to hatch?
A: About 8 ingame days
Q: How do I feed them?
A: Drop some meat (or whatever else they might like to eat) on the ground, though you only need to feed them to breed them
Q: How do I use the dragon horn?
A: The dragon horn functions very similarly to the Jaunt flute which you might already know from Equus or Monoceros, except it can only be used on dragons.
First you need to use the binding toolmode to specify what species of dragon it should be used for. Once the horn has been bound to a species (it should say in the name of the item) you can use it just like you do the bone flute for the elk.
Which means your dragon needs to be an adult and needs to wear a draconic medallion for it to heed your summons. Dragons yeeted by the game during crashes can't respond to horns as they're most likely no longer on the same plane of existence.
Q: My baby dragon keeps following my friend, how do I get it to follow me?
A: Hatchlings will just randomly pick a player within range to follow around for a bit, it's not permanent and doesn't affect the dragon as it grows up.

If you find the elk's entity ID, ask an admin of the server to teleport that entity to you, like so:

If not, see step below.
If the logs yield no entity ID, ask a server admin if they're willing to check the server logs.
Server logs:
Browse to VintagestoryData/Logs and check the server-audit.log file, looking for something like this:

I use Ctrl+F to search for "tamed".
Teleport to that location. Note that coordinates in the 500k range are not relative to World Spawn, so it's important to use = in the tp command. Example:
/tp =536375 =131 =511375

As a future goal, would you consider allowing us to modify the current Elk blankets into Draconic versions?
I have a stupid question. So far I've found a dead maplewing and a frozen egg, but both of them seem to be "immortal".
I believe I attacked the dead maplewing for at least 1000 points of damage, figruring it should've dropped an egg and dragonstone by then.
So my question is how do you actually harvest the eggs? 😅

Im wondering if there will be more dragon type's cuz it would be awesome to have like Drakes as ground dragons, maybe another thats kind of ocean focused?
Is there a way to jump off a dragon while flying? I'd love to use these to deploy people in PvP with gliders.

Hatchling > Juvenile = 168 hours / 7 days
Juvenile > Adolescent = 336 hours / 14 days
Adolescent > Adult = 504 hours / 21 days
Adolescent > Adult (Female) = 672 hours / 28 days
Hello author, I've been using your mod for a bit and its been great, the only issue is with the Boneknapper I recently got. It can go up and down and fly great. However, if I am going up without going forward, like when I take off, and hit the W key to go forward while still holding Space it crashes my game. I tested this with the maplewing and no issue, it just seems to be the boneknapper. Its not a huge deal as I can just stop holding space before I go forward but I though you should be aware of it.

Well dungeons are structures I assume and not entities like the eggs, I'll look into it but I can't promise anything.

I know totally different mod but Th3Dungeons does it the same way, they got a config for chunk distance between each dungeon.

Would you be willing to consider a hotkey or movement action that allowed a rider to lay down their dragon? I play on a multiplayer server as an unofficial taxi, since I have a fully kitted Alpine Boneknapper, and getting newer players to find and target the back saddle is harder than you might think. Being able to somehow force the dragon into a lay-down stance would make the event much easier. I love this mod, thank you for its existence!
What are the entity names for both Dragons I need it for another mod to be compatible with it

Greetings :) After a few thousand blocks more exploring. Spawn rate set to 0.1 in the config and disabled runtime spawn.
Conquest Overhaul as Worldgen Mod with default settings, maplewings spawn approx. 2k block away to each other. Aplines are way more scarcer. On ~10 Maple eggs 1-2 Apline eggs were found.
Could be sparser.
I had an idea, maybe its possible to add a setting that you can choose the spawn distance between each eggs?
That in a defined chunk radius only 1 egg could spawn. With that it would be less of a RNG game to find an egg and more of a "how far are you willing to walk" thingie :D

Much like any entity in the game the eggs can spawn both on world gen and during runtime, so it's perfectly fine to add to an existing world. Colours for the current existing species are random pretty much, but they both have baby colours they grow out of as they mature.
Hey quick question but I'm adding this to a server my friends and I play on. Do I need to make a new world or just go to new chunks? Also would spawning in new eggs give the same color dragon or does it randomize the colors for the new spawn?

Maplewings take a bit longer to mature than alpines do at the moment
So, i think my maplewing might be bugged, its stuck in its adolescent stage and wont grow up, for context im in a server with other people and their drakes already grew, yet i was one of the first to hatch one and its still not an adult, is there any requirements for the maplewing to grow or something?
I plan to include this mod in an upcoming playthrough with friends. Heads up to anyone else using Terra Prety for worldgen: After a day of generating test worlds and looking around frozen peaks with Block Overlay for Alpini Nest, I found 0 nests. I realized the spawn conditions of max temp (-15) and max rain (0.5) were likely my issue. Terra Prety has tall frozen peaks, but, at least in my worldgen, they always had 0.7 or 0.9 chance of rain. Areas with lower rain fall failed the temp check, being only -5 to -10. I tweaked the spawn conditions for Alpini Nest and found an egg my next test.
No issues finding Maplewing nests, those are working great.

Heyho, we got now hands on 2 dragons and encountered a strange bug, maybe its vanilla too but we dont use elks yet :D
Sometimes a rider from a dragon is invisible for others, even if he dismounts, relogging seems to fix the issue and sometimes dismounting/mountain fix this too.

Edit: I forgot to mention, if someone "sees" an invisible buggy player, the game will crash for him. Sometimes the dragons are invisible too.

it is possible that certain worldgen mods and settings make the spawnconditions in which the eggs can spawn more or less common compared to vanilla
Which is why we included compat for Configlib which allows you to increase the spawn chance in the mod settings menu
A question here. Could Terra Prety be affecting the dragon's spawn rate? I might not have travelled much, but it still makes me feel like I should have found something.

You can install the configlib mod to adjust the spawn rates ^^
That being said both species have a set climate where they can spawn in so you'll probably not find them in areas where those conditions are not being met

Yeah that's a general mount related bug (not entirely sure if it's vanilla or Jaunt specific), there seems to be some occasional client/server desync on dismount, double tapping dismount when you feel like that might have happened usually fixes it

Howeeeever, I'm having issues with my server. I've been wandering around and I've unfortunately not seen a single egg, nor dragon. It seems my world gen decided I wanted a map heavy with wetland areas around me and I'm wondering if maybe that's why. I'm not giving up hope, but I'm wondering if there's a way to tweak the spawns in the config? Or maybe I messed something up somewhere? I have the dependencies downloaded, just updated them too. 😣

Greetings, just a quick feedback after testing it a little more. With runtime spawns set to 0 and the gen spawns set to 0.1 it seems somewhat okay now. Traveled around ~30k blocks and found 4 maple and 1 alpine egg. Was mostly looking for a alpine egg tho hopped more or less from mountain to mountain. The closest 2 eggs were 2k blocks apart. Probably missed some eggs on the run but thats okay.
What i encountered so far, could be a mod conflict or just a server issue but i get sometimes back to my dragon teleported after dismounting and running around. Could not reproduce that and happend totally random. Will look further into it but thought informing you could do no harm :)

The harness is basically the elk's saddle and bridle marged into one item so that's all you need to ride your dragon. The pillion is basically just an extra seat that slots behind the saddle to carry an extra person. But not all dragons are big enough to carry an extra person so currently only the Alpine Boneknapper supports a pillion
There is a harness and a pillion are both needed to ride the dragon or are they interchangable?

One question, would it be possible to scale the hatch time with the dayspermonth setting?
We are playing on a 30 days/month server and hatching dragons in 8 days feels a bit fast compared to the 40 days gestation time a sheep need on 30 days/month.

We're not doing anything different with our saddlebags compared to the vanilla saddlebags besides of course their appearance and the fact that they're used for dragons
So in theory they should function the same as the elk saddlebags
I don't recall off the top of my head if you can open the saddlebags on an elk that's wearing someone else's medallion or not
Very nice. Now I have a "lore" reason to build a small base on a floating island. Plus, I'll look so cool riding one of these dragons in Winged Hussar armor.

I haven't looked into CO compat just yet, the hitboxes are a bit too small currently though.
The vanilla hitbox only allows us to set a cube using x and y values, not xyz so I'll never be able to fully cover the whole dragon with that without blocking it from fitting through spaces it should be able to fit through visually.
Making the hitbox a little taller is on my to do list for the next bigger update though.
Not entirely sure why you'd want to shoot your pet/mount though ^^;
Maltiez's firearms appear to deal no damage to dragons. Is it just an incompatibility? I am running Combat Overhaul aswell so I thought it could most likely screw something up.
It is also very difficult to hit the dragon with arrows. The hitbox appears to be too small, is it also just CO fiddling with hitboxes or is that intended?
hi there my game crashed when i was flying my alpine, it had disapered when i reloaded but it is still showing on my map is there any way to reload it or reload the chunk, or is it gone for good.
I dont know if it will conflict if i claim another dragon? i do have a spare.

Worldgen is new chunks, Runtime is loaded chunks/ the chunk you're in. Both species have their own climate range though so if you're not in those you won't see em. But yes it is possible to find eggs in places you've visited previously if they meet the spawn conditions

You should be able to use a rope to get them to follow you, mods like Animal Cages also work if you add them to the config there.
Medallions aren't necessary for riding, you only need a harness. The only thing the Medallion does is make it so that you can see your dragon on the map, other people can't ride them and they'll respond to the dragon horn after you bind it to the correct species. Dragons don't fly autonomously, I decided against such behaviour as in gameplay having to chase down a flyer is really annoying XD
Dragons do wander but if you mount and dismount they'll stay for about a day (very useful when you're exploring). They can climb 3 blocks high but they can't go over fences so I recommend using fences or building tall enough walls.

I don't have a long term roadmap or anything. Currently I have a drake in development which we've dubbed the Coppertail. The Coppertail is our first non-flying dragon but it comes in 14 different colours, I think they're pretty cool I hope y'all will like em too :3

Is it possible to make a dragon move, or put them in a trap of some kind to do so, without them being bonded?
My dragon grew in to a juvenile and started walking straight up walls, so their pen stopped working. They're now wandering further and further away, and don't know how to get them to follow me, or if I can.
I don't have the ability to make an medallion yet; the cheapest option seems to be silver, but I can't get that without bronze, and I haven't had any luck with the ore, but I also don't know if it would actually help.
I don't quite understand. The "runtime spawns" are mentioned in the configs, so does that mean that there is a slim chance that I will find an egg despite not seeing anything even remotely dragonlike for a whole 12-day month of travels?
Are you required to use a medallion in order to ride a dragon, or is that primarily for servers with multiple people riding dragons?
It's a lot more achievable now that I've discovered the other variants of medallion (I ran in to the problem many others seem to have, by the book link only showing the dragonstone recipe), but I'm not 100% sure if it's something I need to prioritize making before my dragon grows up and flies away, or if they will still behave without one.
i am in love with this mod it is our way of transportation now lol and i am curious how many more species you want to had? smaller and faster or bigger and slower would be cool, and an wayy of attacking with them would make them perfect. i dragon like twice the size of the Boneknapper would be dope as hell
Some day maybe :D And yes thats why i was asking for that command to delete them. Deleted all eggs/dragons on our server after lowering the spawn rate to the minimum.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Main concern based on what I've read is the egg/nest spawn rate. Extremely rare dragons would be key to me for using this on a server.

Hi there, balancing their spawns so that they work as intended with every type of worldgen has proven rather tricky. I'll attempt lowering their spawnrate and see if that improves the issue.
That being said nests that are already in the world will stay there unless you remove them, they don't despawn.
Shintharo12 Greetings again, after we successful reduced the spawnrate from 1 to 0.1 and even disabled the runtime spawns we still encounter massive amounts of dragon eggs. We use conquest overhaul landforms which creates massive mountains but we found 10+ alpine eggs on just one mountain range with those spawn settings.
Is there a way to reduce the spawn rates even more? We want very rare dragons so if you got one you should be really lucky but right now everyone could get a flock of dragons in a few minutes :/

Hey, I dont need help with the commands, i know how they work. Example: with /entity count e[type=deer*] it shows me every deer. With /entity count l[] it shows the entity im looking at. I want to use /entity remove e[type=*dragon*] but the game cant find any even if im looking right at one. Somehow the dragon nests can be found with *egg* but not with *dragon* or *wyvern*
But i think i found the solution for that, If its a mod entity you need to enter the mod name infront > /entity count e[type=draconis:*dragon*] that seems work.

the more recent versions of the mod no longer require frozen eggs to be havested, just hitting it once will make it drop its things, however it can sometimes bug out and be unharvestable if the egg falls down a block for whatever reason (possibly a vanilla issue)
Hello. I found a frozen egg but I can't seem to harvest it. I scoured this thread and found one comment suggesting that it can be harvested with a knife and that I may need to whack it first, but that is not working at all. I do have the toolsmithing mod installed, does it only work with a vanilla knife?
Greetings, i found out we got too many dragons in our world and reduced the spawnrate. Now we wanted to wipe all dragons alive but with /entity remove the game could not find any dragon related entity even if im looking at a dragon with /entity count l[type=*] it says "no entities found"
What am i doing wrong here ? every other creature works fine only those dragons could not be found.

I'm aware, this is because I forgot to remove some textures from the model while I was animating it, this doesn't affect gameplay at all so you don't have to worry.
I'll clean it up in the next update ^^

While it looks like a lot in the creative inventory it's really not that performance heavy at all as we're using the attribute rendering library and they're not like more traditional variants (which tend to be a bit harsher on performance with this amount)
In my experience, running this mod on a server with a fair number of mods I haven't noticed any difference in performance with it being installed or not. That being said based on specs your milleage may vary.
Should it prove problematic in the future for whatever reason I might consider making a patch that disables all but the plain tack options

I get that. Personally I think Draconis is probably closer to Wyrmroost than it is to Fire and Ice. The designs are ofc very subjective and I know they won't appeal to everyone, that being said dragons is a pretty diverse group of creatures spread over lots of different cultures and myths throughout history and modern media which I really like about them. The Maplewing is inspired by more traditional european wyverns, which might appeal to you more than the more modern feathered Alpine design. I'll eventually do a more traditional european/western dragon too ^^

fair thats what we ended up using, besides that and a weird recalling bug/the long range horn issue (and imo the horn shouldnt have durability) I'm largely enjoying the mod with my friends
Literally the only thing I can't get behind is the dragons feeling less like dragons and more like random mythical beasts, a lot of comparisons to ice and fire came up
a lot of it boiled down to the designs are alright but most of us prefer the more generic kinda dragons since its harder to go wrong with.
My game crashed and when it loaded my last save I had been riding my Alpine dragon, upon loading I was mid air with no dragon in sight and fell. upon going into the sky to find it my dragon isn't there even with the map marker saying it is, how can I tp my dragon to me or tp to it?

Alpine 'nests' are just frozen eggs, that's normal.
We only have config for the spawn chance on world generation and the spawn chance during runtime as you've already seen. If adjusting those settings with configlib is not sufficient for you then you could go into dragonnest entity json file and adjust the spawn conditions there, it should be at the bottom of the file. You might need to unzip the mod to save those changes depending on what software you're using.
Spawn conditions for the dragons are determined by elevation (y-level), temperature, vegetation and block type. So if your world has a lot of high elevation snowy flats then yes Alpines will spawn a lot more frequently than they would normally in areas where snowy mountains aren't as big.

And there is no parameter responsible for spawning eggs on flat surfaces. There are a lot of them far in the north in flat places. They are even without nests.

You'll want to use ConfigLib and set the dragon runtime and worldgen lower via the ingame mod settings menu (or disable it all together by setting it to 0 if you've already gotten enough eggs)
Is there any way to reduce the spawn of dragon eggs? Far to the north, about -40000, they spawn very often. In 30 minutes, I found 15 pieces. Spawn without dragon nest. Flat terrain, I don't know what kind of biome this is. Previously, they spawned in the mountains and only with a nest. Game Version and Latest Mod.

Seems like adult female dragons don't eat out of the troughs compared to the the males. Done about 6hr and overnight oversight and not only that but the females don't even eat meat dropped on the ground. So I cannot breed my dragons at all.

Unfortunately as far as I know there doesn't seem to be, you can spawn another one in to replace it in creative mode, Don't worry about medallions either, it only considers the latest one that you gave a medallion as claimed

The first thing you mentioned can happen to any mount (even the vanilla elk) and is not specific to this mod, I highly advice against logging while mounted or restarting servers when people are mounted.
For the second thing sometimes the game doesn't register the dismount properly this probably a Jaunt related issue which is being worked on and once again not related to Draconis itself.
As for the third remark, I've found no issues using the latest versions of both Draconis and Jaunt in 1.21.5 (stable) on my own multiplayer server nor on any of my singleplayer world. They work fine there so I suspect the issue you might be having might require clearing the mod cache and reinstalling the mods.
Dragons have a chance to disappear if you leave the game while riding a dragon. Additionally, if you have a poor server connection and leave the game, the dragon may also disappear, but its marker will remain on the map.
Furthermore, there is an error where if you try to dismount from a dragon, you will not actually be able to do so, and pressing shift will return you to the dragon.
Additionally, the mod does not work with the latest version of jaunt.

I'll look into putting a longer cooldown on the greeting emote so they don't do it as frequently, that being said you usually just have to wait a lil bit and then they'll sit down and you'll have easy access to the bags that way
I don't intend to add PetAI support in the near future, I'm a bit hesitant to depend on yet another mod. More moving parts means more stuff can break. The dismount landing stuff shouldn't happen as much on the newer versions of Jaunt
As for the wings, their pose was mainly done to preserve my sanity ^^;
okay so this is a great mod my only complaints are, the bone knapper he turns and faces you and does this chest puffy thing and refuses to let you access bags or the saddle, it would also be nice if they listend to the pet ai whistle so they could sit and stay laydown etc might fix my problem with the knapper, also having something other than shift to decend and get off is inconvinient as as soon as you touch the ground youre thrown off your dragon. it would also be nice to be able to open the bags on his back from above as a dock type structure works pretty good for how large he is. also having the bone knapper having his wings up all the time dosent seem right as it looks like they would be held near their body like a bird. the maplewing on the other hand perfect.
a faster climb/ decend would be nice too.

the draconic pillion can only be attached to the slot behind the harness slot on the Alpine, not the Maplewing

Heya, are the dragons supposed to sound super quiet? I can barely hear 'em when I'm right next to them.
Also fire resistance/immunity would be cool (mostly bc mine keeps running over cooling molds and firepits and hurting itself).
Otherwise love the mod, the model is awesome and I loooove the realistic growth mechanic.

ahh sad then, but yeah I really did enjoy that mod in multiplayer and your mod is the closest thing to that, if you can't do this it's fine but still wanted to give suggestion how to make the mod even better.
also idea of Xristieno is pretty cool too for this mod, would be fun to play with your dragon while you wait for stuff to cook etc, the game forces the player to wait most of the time so this would let the player pass the time without getting too bored xd

Edit: After extensive testing, I have found eggs at the top of snowcapped mountains while using terraprety and snowcaps so it does work with terrain generation changes!

Draconis itself doesn't have any mechanics for that. At most they take about 50 in game days to get to adult depending on species and gender.
But you're welcome to write a patch mod (not a reupload) that changes the growth time values in the entity jsons for both dragons and wyverns ^^
For personal use you can just adjust the modfiles themselves too

Draconic medallions can be crafted with gold/silver + any type of vanilla gemstone, the dragonstone recipe is just one of the many variants we have and is completely optional, moreso intended for people who have collected a lot of eggs already
I recommend using the handbook to look up draconic medallions or horns. For the horns you'll need to craft an unbound horn and then bind it using the steps explained in the FAQ section

Spawns (for the alpine) are mainly based on temperature and height, you'll mainly see them on tall mountains on snow or glacier ice. The eggs aren't particularly big unlike the maplewing remains so they could be easy to miss. Certain worldgen mods and or setting might also make them rarer.

I think this might be a case of getting unlucky with spawns. The remains are regular entities and thus unaffected by the setting in homo sapiens that disables a lot of things. I recommend using either block overlay to help you find them or using configlib to increase spawns if needed

RougeTradeR just looked through the mod files and did a quick test in a creative world. horn recipe is top row plain leather, support beam, nails and strips, and a knife at either end of the middle row for the 2 horn variants. also, you can use silver or gold for the medallion, so you only NEED 1 dragonstone for the schematics, which also seem to be infinite use.
The dragonstones doesnt come out as 4 from killing the dragon.So do we need to raise those eggs and kill some of them to get extra or what cuz otherwise there isnt enough dragonstone to make ownership medallion thingy.Secondly how does horns came to be ? Do u just get it out of thin air with medallion or is it done in smithy cuz I dont remember seeing a recipe.
Okay im really questioning my sanity here, around like a month ago or so i started a homo sapiens world and i have NOT found one remain anywhere. I'm either being really dumb dumb or this mod does not generate the remains in homo sapiens. :')

I think my issue was that I was always directed by the guide to craft a dragonstone medallion for claiming one once it hatched. It took me a while to realize there was a gold or silver option, so I thought I needed to spend at least 4 of the stones on a medallion lol
Request! Visual support for the fur roll bed from Kevin's Furnature Mod. I can place it in the bedroll slot, but its invisible. Would be really cool to have a proper bedroll back there, esp since my boneknapper, Artyom, has become a permanent part of my expeditions and being able to sleep for longer would be splendid.

Yeah it's very tricky to balance and spawning is my nemesis, but it is atleast somewhat intentional to have Alpine eggs be relatively common ontop of mountain tops vs the Maplewing as the frigid temperatures would have made perserving the eggs easier
Just popping in to say the Alpine dragon eggs are still quite plentifully spawning in very cold conditions. We went up a mountain to a glaicer top and found around 6 within a 75 block radius of eachother.
Raising my Boneknapper was a fun journey. I let her hatch in the middle of my courtyard, and as a baby she was allowed to follow me everywhere. Yes, Alpine, come watch while I cook this porrige. No, Alpine, get your nose off the anvil I CAN'T SEE WHAT I'M DOING. It was adorable. Then she grew into a teenager and I was not expecting her to just wander off! I caught her trying to sneak into the next valley and managed to quickly wall her in, so I'm sad to report that she spend her adolecence in jail. Now she's all grown up (and still in jail most of the time because I can't get the horn to work and have to keep her from just leaving during the night), and I adore going on adventures with her.
All this to say I love this mod and thank you for your work and for sharing it with us!

You should only need 1 dragonstone to craft everything you need to ride your first dragon. The Draconic schematic is reusable.

Hey guys so i raised this boneknapper all the way up and claimed it with a medalion but it will bite me when i get close
So is the only way to acquire the dragonstone to harvest the eggs and remains? I haven't been able to find any of the maplewing remains in this world but have found 2 of the alpine eggs... each of those eggs dropped a single dragonstone each. I am in single player so it doesn't matter a ton if I hoard the eggs but I was hoping that with one egg I'd get most of what I needed to ride the dragon. Should there have been more dragonstones around the eggs that I missed? Alas I shall keep exploring it seems.

I went ahead and tested again on both adult maplewings and alpines and it works fine on my end, the neck has 2 slots one for the lantern and a thinner one for the medallion. So I suspect there might be somekind of mod incompatibility going on maybe?

I wanted to test it in creative before I have my friends download for our group world, but when I spawned in an adult the medalion would not attach to the neck slot. I tried spawing in an egg and wait for it to get the adult phase but then the medalion didn't work then either. Is there a certain way I am supposed to put it on, does the type of medalion matter?

Yeah don't use the elk pillion on the Boneknapper. Given how the vanilla code was set up we couldn't disable it, hopefully we'll be able to in 1.21.2

Hello, there's a problem with the passenger saddle that creates a crash linked to the positioning or the server desyncronization when you get off the boneknapper and there's a graphic problem with the elk passenger saddle that can apparently be put on the dragon but the passenger is on the dragon's wing. I can neither confirm or deny that cuz idk if want to make griffins. They would be in their own mod though. Dragons going poof is something that currently just kinda happens when the game has trouble loading the mod, though I've seen reports of the vanilla elk having the same issue as well

Hello! I absolutely adore this mod, but I'm having trouble getting my dragons to mate. I have two girls and one boy all grown, and the girls are eating when I put food down for them, but even if the boy eats he doesn't want to interact. The girls are both at mating readiness, but I can't view on the boy any of that info. I've been trying for about 2-3 in-game months and it's just not working. The boy is claimed by my friend, but I couldn't see any of his info when I was raising him from an egg either. What am I doing wrong? Do I just need to get another male because this one is glitched? He's older than the second female and she's already at mating readiness, so I don't understand where I'm messing up. My friend can't see any of those stats on him either.

the one behind the saddle is just cantlebag and pillion (only on the alpine), the one on the hips is the cantlebag or the bedroll.
For the maplewing it's only the things it displays in the prompt

Hello, there are teleportation problems on dragons when you crouch or rarely when you approach previously mounted dragons, I don't know if it comes from the server side or the mod.

Until I figure out a good way make sure the animations also speed up or slow down depending on movespeed (currently it's all manually set) I won't be adding configs for that. you are however welcome to unzip the mod and make changes yourself for personal use. If you wanna share those changes with friends I'd recommend writing a patch mod instead

Hi, after adding this mod, my bear pelts with head (both in inventory and on the ground) are showing up completely black. The only way I’ve found to fix it is by using .reload textures, but I have to do this every time I enter the world. Is there a way to make this fix permanent?
I’m only using a few other mods (SmithingPlus, ProspectTogether, Carry On, and the two dependencies of Draconis). When I disable Draconis, the textures look normal, but once I enable it they turn black again.

With an unbound horn you toggle over to the binding toolmode (default key is F to bring up the tooldmode menu) and then you use the horn while looking at a dragon or wyvern
How do I assign a dragon horn to my dragon, my dragon has an ownership medallion on. The horn says it needs an entity group and I don't know how to add an entity to a group.

it may be difficult to find the eggs, but i never had any issue with the crafting, all the recipies are in the book and i especially like that you can dye the items after making them if you want a specific color that you cant get yet.

All of the gear is craftable and is listed in the guide, you might be missing a config or other file, so I would recommend reinstalling! The only thing you need to find are the eggs, which the Boneknappers are on tall, icy mountains, and the Maplewings are found in big ol' dragon bones in plains. Hope this helps! :)
Would love for the in-game guide to be more detailed, and maybe I'm just bugged but there's no crafting recipes for any of this, and the guide doesn't answer if I have to find it as loot or get it from creative. Anyway can't wait to see the other dragon types and more from this mod!! Really cool idea~

Would you ever consider making all dragon cantlebag slots interchangable with pillions such as with the Boneknapper? I currently have my (almost) adult Maplewing and would love to carry a friend with me instead of extra storage, as that feels like a reasonable trade-off. I understand them thematically being a smaller wyvern species though and that they aren't really be designed to carry more than one person, but thought I would ask in case this is something you might consider in the future for other species. :)

How do you and the other mod creators feel about making the dragons more difficult to hatch/tame as a way to balance their OP-ness? Controlling rarity is probably difficult when there's no way to predict what worldgen mods a player might be using and how it will change spawns, but maybe that can be offset by complicating the incubating and raising process with additional steps or material requirements. Like lots of things in vanilla VS, dragon-raising could be a complex and time-consuming process that has a great payoff to make it all worth it.
I have some ideas, but I'm fully aware of how annoying it can be to have someone go "HURRR I GOT GREAT IDEA FOR UR GAME" so I won't try to share them unless you're actively open to pitches from outside the team xD

i literally had to travel over 40k blocks before i finally found one(after i set the spawn rate to 30x about halfway into the 11 hours it took lol i really should have made the boat faster...) every single snowy mountain had none although to be fair snowy mountains were fairly rare..
ended up going 20k blocks north before i finally found 2 on a gigantic snowy mountain.
next time i may just set it to 30x from the start.
egg is incubating now, but my world file is now 17gb lol.

Worlgenwyvern is the spawn rate on new chunks being loaded, runtimewyvern is the spawnrate on existing chunks

Hi there, you can feed it by throwing relevant food items on the floor nearby. If you ride an adult maplewing or alpine and get back off it will stop wandering for about a day.
In general though I'd recommend building a pen or a stable to house them in long term

We do have config for spawns, it just requires configlib as I've already mentioned.
We're never going to be able to balance it in a way that pleases everyone unfortunately. I get people asking to make them faster, some ask to make them slower.
Imo they're dragons and flying should feel fun so they're currently set up in a way that feels fun for me (during development they were a lotttt faster X'D).
They're also still slower than other transport options added by mods like Rustbound or better sailing.
That being said if the vanilla experience is very important to you I wouldn't recommend using this mod to start off with, maybe save it for a later playthrough

Dragons are awesome addition - they look gorgeous and the ability to fly is a gamechanger! However...
Originally the mod is VERY OP compared to vanilla stuff or other mods that add transportation. The dragons are TOO FAST, they zoom through maps, no need for translocators really.
And they come in bunches (as you can see in my comment) at practically no cost.
So yeah, they're great addition but might kill the fun from exploring at their current config.
A pity there's no config for spawns and speed they move at (seriously, it's difficult to navigate as one 0,1s press of a button forward zooms them instantly by like 5+ blocks). Maybe the author will add a config or balance the dragons one day...
As of now you can only manually adjust the mod files for your own server/game, so it wouldn't break the gameplay for you and other players.
Found out the hard way if you place the egg out in the open, and a storm rolls through lightning will strike and destroy your egg.... haha wont be doing that again.

I'm debating on if I want to install this or not, the dragons are gorgeous but I worry they're too easy to get if all I have to do is find an egg while exploring and wait for it to hatch. In a game as travel/exploration-focused as VS it feels like having flight before lategame would be too overpowered. Anyone have opinions on that, is it really that game-breaking?

i do have immersive corpse on on the server, the maplewing works just fine just the bonekapper that crashes at this time
So does raising or lowering the modconfig decrease spawn chance?
it has a scale of 0-100 and the default is 1 so would increasing the value make them spawn less or more? It's not really clear which direction you need to go.
Prior to this Draconis patch I was having some issues with my Dragon Horn immediately breaking upon use but otherwise functioning normally. Now they don't self-destruct anymore but my dragon (trying unbound or Wyvern-Autumnus) doesn't behave as expected and walk/teleport to me. Any suggestions/known conflicts? I'm running most the 'standard' mods - Combat Overhaul, Golden Combs, etc. I can post a full mod list if that helps.

We do have configlib support, the spawn rates were set for the standard vanilla world gen, certain world gen mods or settings might require some configuring to balance them
would having a terain genneration mod like conquest overhaul or a mod like better ruinf conflict with egg generation? i havent found any eggs yet- i also dont know whst im looking for so it might be user error
I think the spawn rate needs some adjustment...
In about 20 mins I've found nearly 30 Alpine Boneknapper eggs (probably more including those I missed)
Some spawning a few blocks next to another, others within the range of view, so I was just running from one to the other...
Tryed to use this on my server cant seam to get it to work it does not show up on server mods in consol but works fine in singleplayer

Each time I'm collecting items from the new Alpine Dragon egg I just harvested, I'm getting this client crash. It is happening when I close the harvested egg loot box and it's supposed to change into another remains (same as with Maplewing). But when I'm logging back in after crash to the server there are no remains left.

So, my character is standing upright while riding these wonderful creatures. I love this mod, and I think I have installed it and it's dependancies properly... and I installed the camera fixes. So, I''m not sure if this is known or if I have messed up? Thank you for this wonderful mod.

Better Ruins would be perfect for this mod. A ruin that was made for Dragons that houses an Egg. (Ruin could be a Mountain with a Dragon / Wyvern Lair) for example.
Ya could ask Niclass or the Builders for cooperation to add to structures to this mod. Or theirs (that wont spawn unless this mod is installed).

Gender and adult colour is purely random
What does the final colour depend on? Specific climate or Biome? or is it just random?
I've hatched 4 and all were yellow. My friend hatched one in another (far away) location and it grew up as an orange one.
Also we can't get to hatch a female - is it just bad luck?
Is it possible to configure the speed so they are not comparatively so overpowered vs using other vehicles/methods of transport?

They're on the rare side, if you have configlib installed you can up their spawn rate, using a mod like block overlay can also help you find them more easily if need be
Where can I find the eggs? I saw something about finding a dead dragon and finding an egg, but ive searched in a huge area and multiple different biomes but haven't found anything. Is it just super rare or am I super unlucky?

Are you using Draconis v1.0.0 (for 1.20) or 1.1.0-rc.2 (for 1.21, should work on either 1.21.1 or 1.21.0)?

Im experiencing a problem. I dont know if im missing something but I cant ride the dragon
I wanted to test if the mod works in a flat creative world so I spawned an adult female, added the full set but I cant mount the dragon, I can only mount it without the harnest but I cant move or turn it.
What am I missing?
Edit: Also I would apreciate that on the guide in the handbook you add a full list of all the things you can equip your dragon.

The nest is an entity so try hitting it a few times and then it should show you that you can harvest it with a knife

It works just fine with regular world gen, they're a fairly rare spawn though. from hatchling to adult it takes about 50 days give or take
how long do they take to grow up?
also is it compatible with all worldgen mods or just the biomes series?

I got the required mods and everything, but I cannot ride the dragons. They require a saddle to ride, but when I equip a saddle I am unable to ride it.
what are the different colors that they can grow up into?

Yeah it's safe to add or remove any time, but it's always a good idea to backup your world when installing or removing mods.
i have an issue where my character will stand on the dragon rather than riding it. might be caused by another mod but just thought Id ask for help here

Hey if it helps I went in creative to test out the mobs and spawned some in but whenever I spawn in the adult version male or female in creative mode it crashes the game and I can't reenter the world I always spawn mobs from mods in a creative world just in case something breaks and every other version of this mob from hatchling to juvenile seems to not crash but its only the adult version that crashes the whole game.

Lowkey I'm impressed you managed to pull that off as I consistently failed to get the Maplewing to do damage to anything in my testing XD That being said it's of course not intentional and I'll look into fixing it!
PetAI integration is currently not plannned.
I love the mod! Is there any plan to incorporate PetAI into it? I think it would be a good idea as the config files PetAI lets you utilize, such as (pet)respawn mechanics and turning off the ability to attack your pets, would be incredibly handy. I hit my Wyvern by accident and it attacked and killed me, then my PetAI dog attacked and killed the Wyvern.. To prevent that from happening to anyone else I really think there should be an option to toggle Wyvern damage so we don't accidentally hit our Wyverns! Thank you!

Both the wyvern's sleeping animation and it's basking animation (which is based on bird behaviour) are in fact different animations from the death animation.
Besides not knowing if your scaley friend is dead or asleep at first glance is pretty realistic X'D
I'm not sure if I could pull loafing off with the wyvern's model, but it's def something I'll keep in mind for future species!
would you consider making a unique laying down animation? perhaps loafing or something. every time one of my dragons lays down i think its dead lol

If you check the files, the min temp is 0ºC, max is 20ºC, rain between 0.3 and 0.7 on max light level 7, tho the runtime chance for spawn is 0.00005%
I can't seem to find the dragon graves. Is there information more specific than Temperate shrublands and forests? How much time did you guys spend to find one?

Not shure if this is a problem on my side or a bug with the mod but for some resong my dragon will stop flying mid air and snap my camra forword, this will contune intill I give a movement input. other then that the mod is super nice and impresive

Had the same problem think its just very finicky didnt get a prompt for ages then i randomly got one to harvest with a knif.
not sure whats going on, but cant get any loot from the draconis nests, currently on 1.0.0-rc.5 and i do have the
immersive corpses mod, so not sure if something is conflicting, but ive tried 8 nests and no loot so far
Mod looks great. Definitely a reason to go back to the game.
Being able to fly is pretty OP though, I feel being able to fly it should be something for the late game.

I am not really in need of it as I just patch the thing to my taste but maybe make a public "easy" patch. For example similiar to I believe your wild horses patch for the equus.
Makes sense flying is pretty OP after all. Tbh I'm glad we can enjoy them as itty bitty babies for longer!

in v1.0.0 you can no longer craft the harness with copper and the wyvern takes a fair bit longer to mature now, hopefully that helps at least a little

I would suggest adding some sort of maintance cost to flying like they need kept feed, if they get too hungry they cant fly. This forces the player set up camp every so often inorder hunt for meat, breaking montonus flying while also helping with game balance. Great mod especially considering larger creatures are hard to model and animate.
Yeah I'd say Bronze age at the earliest, Iron age preferably for being able to ride the Wyverns, cause if youre good you can get leather really early
I just rebalanced it for myself like 10 gold needed for the blueprint and another 10 gold for a saddle. Cause fyling is pretty op. But lovely model's and animations great work! Also I fact checked and indeed wyvern have affinity for shiny things / gold. As such to be a dragon rider pay the gold price :P.
I think adding a Bronze and Gold plate to the recipe would make it more balanced, bronze to lock it later into metal working and gold isn't the hardest resource to find since if prospecting fails it can be bought as Omok pieces from traders and melted down.
I'm in agreement here, I think flight being possible essentially at the advent of metal working may be a tad destabilizing. I'd personally put a late Bronze Age (maybe even into the Iron Age) requirement somewhere in the crafting recipe.
All and all tho really cool! I love dragons and will be watching this mods development!
Shintharo12 you could rebalance it furter with the need of gold for a saddle not sure if wyvern had this kind of love for shiny thing's in folklore but eitherway it should not be as easy as a saddle for horses if you were to ask me! (I haven't played it yet)

While being able to fly on the back of a wyvern does make long distance travel easier (and a lot more fun imo)
I hope that we did a good enough job balancing them so that they don't feel OP. You need to get to at least leather to be able to craft the harness needed to ride them ^^

If it's also not showing up in the creative inventory please make sure you've installed the correct version of the dependencies.
Draconis v1.0.0-rc.5 needs at least Jaunt v2.0.0-rc.8 or newer and atleast v1.0.0 or newer of the Attribute rendering library. (This was the issue N7Maggus had)
If the mod is loading correctly then you just have to find em in the world ^^ it's a pretty rare spawn

animatiV regarding hatching the egg, thats exactly what you have to do xD the nests spawn in the wild but living wyverns do not. so you have to find an egg and raise it
It reminded me of the "Ice and Fire" mod for Minecraft, which made me stop playing because it wasn't updated to the latest versions. I loved that mod (mainly for dragons and a great bestiary).
And now I see something similar here in VS, it's like a revelation 😀😍
It would be great if you first had to retrieve a dragon egg from its lair, meet its needs, hatch it, and then continue caring for the baby dragon until it grows into a powerful adult. It would be quite engaging.
