This is a super simple mod that, for now, adds Koi to the game.
Koi will naturally spawn, if you breed them (by throwing grains at them or using a small trough in water and some grains in it) and produce fish eggs!
Fish eggs will grow into small fry! and fry will grow into more koi! Breedable fish! (duh)
beware!
Hungry koi will eat their own eggs, and their own fry.
This mod is obviously under construction.. we're publishing here for feedback.

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the silence..
We got very busy IRL, unable to play games, let alone do modding.
What matters:
I had to get a new laptop.
I'm sick at home currently, and wanted to find the files to update the mod.
Putting one and one together... well.. I nolonger have the files... they got lost in the transfer, and i don't have access to the old laptop.
So we're starting from scratch!
As a start i'll try adding eggs for all existing fish.

Tested in 1.21 using creative mode to spawn in Koi. I could put the Koi into my hotbar but when I placed them into the pond they...disapeared from the hot bar and never appeared in the pond. I had used this same trick in my last 1.20 world to get a pond populated with some Koi and it worked fine Koi swimming in the pond feeding from the trough and so on. But 1.21 it's a bit.......broken. Hope it gets updated soon.
Wulff i dont think it will break anything. But you'll notice fish spawns are pretty rare. As an OP you could do /entity spawn breedablefish:koi-male 1 to get a male koi..
I'm messing with code a lot, so next update your fish might dissapear.. i'll try to fix that tho.
I have been waiting for a bit to add this to my server. we unfortunatly had a lightning strike hit our pond and killed our 15 or so vanilla fish that had been thriving in there. :( seems like a good time to add this mod for some variety.
I was just curious if there are any serious reported issues or if it should be stable to add to a long running server.
I want to replace all the fish behaviour with this idea as a start, the end goal would be to have full ecosystems that you can manage :)

I saw that the new v1.21.0-rc.2 version includes an absurd amount of new fish! It would be great if you could make an update to make them all breedable (and catchable) 😍
10/10 mod. Love having more animals to raise. Only issue I've run into is a lightning strike hitting my fish pen and wiping out my poor koi T_T

Hello! I recently discovered your mod! I think it's really interesting making fish breedable and creating a sustainable way to obtain proteins is a great idea!
I find it very immersive, and I've made it compatible with my mod Floatingfish 🤠
Wulff Dilan clarified that in a later comment i think. Anyhow, i'm working on the fishnets. Extending life in a bucket will be the focus, perhaps a config to catch them with a bucket (i agree its strange to catch them with a bucket)
Russian translation
I mentioned using nets before and it was said they were planned. after that a comment was made how we should use buckets as they are more "realistic" but as someone who has both fished and had aquariums...... i never once used a bucket for picking up a fish, thats what nets are for, but i could see them being used after netting them to keep them stable or extend the life time until relesed into a pond or other pool of some kind..
Narg lol thats a bug. I'll check it out as soon as i can! I thought this wasn't the default behaviour.
Redumulis salmon also breed now, they are custom mobs now :)
Prelol new thing I noticed, if you somehow manage not to kill a fish in one hit, it enters the normal panick all animals have and can occasionally attack. In base game however they do no damage. your modded versions can actually damage you. just tested and a koi did 1.9 damge to me.
Is it only the Koi that are breedable right now? Not yet the vanilla fish?
Narg Since it's a patching mod, i think its work on their end, but i'll put it on the list of "things that could be config" .. shouldn't be too much work.
Prelol hadnt been on for a while and completely forgot I had Floating Fish installed. sorry for the confusion. Although if you felt like making them compatible that would be a blessing, I have no head for code or I'd try my hand at it myself.
Its more for transport of the fish from the pond to a more contained water area for breeding. Could be usefull for transferring the eggs and small fry specifically, in order to seperate them from the adults.
DilanRona i can add it as a config, i dont think people catch fish with buckets... or they need to be very domestic fish?
Narg i think its base game behaviour? Could be wrong... maybe you have a mod that patches dropping corpses? In any case, the salmon got replaced bycustom entities, so maybe its mod interactions acting up, or i've butchered vanilla fish behaviour.. i'll check it out. Can you see if you have a patching mod for corpses perhaps?

What about just using buckets? Would be a bit more realistic...
you could use some of that mod's code for fish nets. but i am no modder and have no idea if that works.
if you want fish nets with fish to be able to die maybe they will have a perish speed and they turn into a fish net with a dead fish which you can put it in crafting grid to get the net back. and maybe get some raw fish meat

1.0.16 salmon now lay eggs. Haven't tested this in a survival world yet. Balancing will be off...
fyi, eggs grow into adult fish over 120 hours, the egg state only lasts a day.

Wulff yes, i was thinking the same thing. The bug net. Afterwards i do intend to add a death timer of some sort.. live fish can't stay in the bugnet forever.. 😅
Noticed it can be a pain placing blocks around many fish... gonna fix that...

Can confirm the koi are now spawning in the world. (version 1.0.13)

Wulff Kreeate pointed out spawning doesn't work as it should. I'm on it :)

I love the thought of this mod so i tried testing it as soon as i saw it. I tested in several brand new worlds with only this mod and blockoverly. after a bit of serious testing heres what i found. The only trace i can even find of the koi fish is that the block overlay mod would be able to track them as seen in this image.

although using htis tool i was unable to actually locate any Koi fish across a large area. i also cant find any items from this mod in the creative menu for spawning. no koi. no eggs. not sure whats keep things from generating properly but i hope something develops soon.

i've started working with mods only since yesterday so it's all still a bit overwhelming haha.
i haven't touched handbooks yet, but koi will work just like salmon, only that you can feed them if you like to get eggs.

Flying around for around 40 minutes and did not see any koi. Plenty of the usual Salmon everywhere, but no koi.
I've checked in rivers, ponds, lakes, and even the ocean.
The koi and eggs also seem to be absent from the handbook.
I'd be happy to continue testing and trying 😊
