In the Middle Age, gambeson armor also had the benefit of being both comfortable and warm, because it is just a very thick layer of cloth. Vintage Story does not follow that logic, except that in 1.21 it added bear hide armor which does in fact provide warmth. This mod rectifies this oversight and provide a slight warmth bonus to gambeson armor, with tailored gambeson providing the most warmth (as an add-in bonus for Tailors out there).
A full sewn gambeson armor will provide a total of 3°C of warmth (head: 0.5°C, body: 1.5°C, legs: 1°C)
A full tailored gambeson armor will provide a total of 4.5°C of warmth (head: 0.5°C, body: 2.5°C, legs: 1.5°C)
Be aware that like every other clothing in the game, you will need to maintain your gambeson to keep the warmth bonus as high as possible.
On default settings with body temperature hardiness at 0°C and wearing a full set of fur clothing and the new warm gambeson armor will allow you to survive to temperature as cold as -9.5°C (or -11°C with tailored gambeson)
This mod is not compatible with game versions prior to 1.21 and there will be no backporting because this mod relies on a feature added in 1.21
Compatible with Combat Overhaul, I have tested it and there are no conflicts. With CO I believe you can wear bear hide on top of your gambeson for even more warmth.
This mod is a simple JSON edit, if you want your gambeson to be warmer you can change the values yourself inside the .zip, I will not add configuration files as that requires coding and is outside the scope of this mod.

Is this compatible with Tailor's Delight?
Edit: Yes it is. There is no interference between the two. that mod changes the recipe, and this mod adds warmth to the final product.
When we did medieval re-enacting, my late husband wore his gambeson as a coat. So I can attest that they are indeed warm when worn in winter.
Metal armor, on the other hand, can transmit the cold and make you colder.
Today, on mods that should be vanilla; this one. Gambesons were known for being warm, to the point they could actually be uncomfortable in the heat.
Lovely! This is the kind of mod I love.
Just looking at what the gambeson is made out of, this has always felt like it should have been anyway.
This mod is really nice for surviving in 'frostpunk' biomes where more than half the year is uninhabitable wastelands. I found that the tailored clothes and fur clothes only insulate you so much and god forbid you dip a toe in a pond, but this mod solves that and is a very nice addition to CO since everyone will be wearing gambeson.
Wahazar I'm not gonna touch protection tier, this is outside the scope of this mod and would also break compatibility with Combat Overhaul. You are free to tweak the warmth values inside my mod's zip folder to something you feel is more balanced for you. I went with these values because they make sense with other clothings in the game and you also cannot survive winter cold with just the gambeson, you still need proper winter clothes or lots of layers.
Perfect mod
Gambeson is already OP, maybe damage tier should be lovered to 1, with such heat-resistance boost?
Wow, that's so immersive and vanilla-friendly mod, love it!
Just what I needed for my snowball earth save. Thanks!
