A simply mod that uses harmony to tweak the games code so that it checks if the location is above sea level before deciding the stability level.
No longer will you find a cool place above ground to build only to find your little gear spinning down!
This mod disables the random unstable regions while still leaving the rest of the system alone. underground will still drain sanity as well as rifts.
This mod may not work with some mods that change world generation like plains and valleys/terra pretty etc.
I haven't tested it for myself because I don't have time atm, but I've seen from comments that this seems to be the case. If anyone knows why feel free to hit me up.
Since this mod overrides base game code using Harmony, It's recommended to create a backup when adding this mod to an untested version of the game.

Made a change. Now checks if a temporal storm is currently active and allows sanity to fall while it is.
also changed so that now anywhere above seas level - 10 is not unstable, allowing basements to be built at sea level. | ||||||

Here's hoping this mod works with Rivers. I hate finding a good chunk to build in, just for it to have temporal instability up the wazoo.
Rythillian I went ahead and tested in a 1.21.5 world it is seems to still be functioning, Updated tag to 1.21.5.
wish it was updated
Sadly it doesnt work for me on the newest version. I would love to see this mod updated.
Playing on 1.21.1 with Terra prety installed, I sadly can confirm that I have found an unstable surface region
Correction: my gear still spins down but I dont seem to actually be losing stability
I am currently playing on the 1.21 stable relase with Terra Prety, Rivergen and Better Forest and so far it's been working great for me.
*NEW* Just updated to 1.21.4 with above mods and it still seems to be working. My gear is staying neutral even though I built my base on cursed land. I still lose temporal stability when traveling too deep under ground which is good.
This mod still works in the new 1.21 stable release.
(I am not using any other mods that would modify terrain generation)
Why isn't there a vanilla option for this?
I installed this mid-save on 1.20.12 with plains and valleys. My base area is now stable and the gear is spinning right. When I was losing stability as I quit pre-install.
Can confirm this works on 1.20.12 with Plains and Valleys when you start a new world. Thanks!
Working on 1.20.12 and using Terra Prety. In single player, the gear is stopped, but on a server the gear appears to turn counterclockwise, but doesn't drain. Stability just jumps back and forth between 99% and 100%.
As of 1.20.10 works, with Terra Pretty and Interesting Ore Gen. For those interested in downloading the mod midsave, you can do so and simply regenerate the area with wgen commands (do \help wgen)
Method confirmed working by doing \wgen regenk 5 which kept surface ores (no idea for deep), peat, natural crops. It reset ruins however (note I use Better Ruins). Other regen commands might keep ruins, but I do not know enough on the subject
Works with latest version + Terra Pretty.
Thank you for your mod, it really saved my mood to continue playing! I can finally peacefully live in the pretty spot i found :D
Still works as of update 1.20.9, and I am so thankfull it did, as it has save my seaside cliff fortress from having to be abandoned, now I can once again to returnin to work on the archive expansion.
works on existing worlds on 1.20.7 with conquest landform overhaul, rivers, conquest block layer overhaul, rock strata variety, sea level fix, wildcraft mods, FotSA, and Floral Zones
I use Teraprety. The mod doesn't fix it on an existing world. Really wish it did. I have many other mods related to flora and fauna as well. The FotSA series, wildcraft trees and shrubs, fruits and nuts. Other mods don't really change world generation at all. I believe this to be a compatilibity issue with Teraprety. If you could make this compatible, I'd definitely buy you a drink ;)
The mod works completely fine at 1.20.7
Quack,
I was interested in this mod but unfortunately in my situation that does not work. I'm using 1.20.6 with Plains & Valleys, Terra Prety and Rivers and on old chunks, new chunks, regenerated chunks too this mod has no effect whatsoever.😿

turns out it does! you saved me a boatload of headaches with that, thank you
thanks for this, three nice building spots in a row was enough for me. i'll suppose this doesn't work retroactively?
Ok using it, it works just unsettling to see the cog wheel keep rotating counter clockwise constantly when in a unstable area.
I cant seem to get it to work on my server, I added this mod to a pre existing world
Goatex I tried it this morning on 1.20.1 and it's still working as expected for me. Do you have any world generation type mods installed? I've seen previously from other comments that it doesn't seem to be compatible with some of those.
doesnt seem to work on 1.20.1, would like to see this updated! Seems like it should be a basic option in vanilla!
It does not seem to be working on 1.20 rc5 for me. Unstable surface areas remain unstable even after installing the mod.
works on the newest rc5 patch :-)
uhm, working now on rc3? Very weird
not workig on rc2, no world gen mods :(
quartzar It might've just been something with the modded world generation then! Good to know though if that's true.
It should work with existing worlds! That was the main reason I made it originiall for myself as I found a cool spot later in my save that was unstable lol. Also how I made sure it is working on its own in 1.20.
I will try it with plains and valleys and see what I find! Thanks for the help
Wafers it could totally be because I was using a worldgen mod - Plains and Valleys.
I tested it by recreating a world with same config as an existing one (including seed) but with this mod enabled, and went to a surface spot I knew was temporally unstable from the existing world.
Ended up just making a new world and travelling south until I came across a nice base location that was temporally stable, so I'm really sorry but I'm not gonna be able to provide much more help than that:(
Unless it works retrospectively when added to an existing world? Then I could test it and let you know?
Either way, I will remove my comment that says it doesn't work!:-)
quartzar What exactly is not working? Just tested it on a new world and it seems to still work as intended. (this was on 1.20.0-rc1)
Mod does not work on 1.20.0-rc.1 :(
Nevermind, must have been a mod conflict on my end!
Will this work when 1.20 comes out?
I'm currently using this on 1.19.7, and it appears to be working.
Love to see an update for 1.19.7! :)
Any chance for an update to this mod to 1.19?
Is it possible to get a version that just makes a *mostly* stable surface ? I like the idea of some areas being unstable, but when every single area I want is unstable that's no bueno
Hello same wish here this is exactly what we need to fully enjoy the world generation above sea level
so yes will you keep it update ? thx for the work already !
Will you continue to update this for 1.19 and beyond :)! This is exactly what I want!
