Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.0, potentially outdated):
spyglassinfo_1.0.2.zip  1-click install

This is a small patch for the spyglass mod which extends the range at which you can see block and entity information when looking through a spyglass.
You can now look at different creatures to check their weight before you take the shot ;)

Requires: Spyglass

Big thanks to "The Insanity God" on discord for help with the mod.

Known issues:
- if you press and hold left click while zoomed in, then let go of right click. It stays zoomed in and you will be able to interact at a far range.
fixed by pressing right click again.

Fuami It's all good. I get your frustration for being blamed about a "cheat mod" when it's not

The problem i think is that when you hold right click, then hold left click, then let go of right click, the right click seems to be stuck. In your mod it's not really an issue but with my patch it means that you can then use left click with the extended range.
The reason i figured this is best fixed in the base mod is because it's a problem with the OnHeldInteract. I know this isn't written by you but just base API functionality, but having some kind of check in your mod would be the best location i believe.

I'll see what i can come up with but i'm quite busy at the moment so it might take me a little while to get to it.
I will also submit a ticket in the VS github so they can properly fix it there

@Qwerdo I came on a bit strong, I'm willing to admit that my attitude was tainted by others and attributing their words to you isn't sound, and I appricate you updating the description.

As I said, I'm more then willing to accept a pull request to fix the issue if you you find something. As I mentioned I'm not even sure if the issue itself will persist into 1.21.1, I'm not sure if you've tested the RC for that yet.

Fuami Hey, this wasn't meant as anything personal.

It's a tiny bug that doesn't really cause any big issues and i noticed that the bug also exists without my patch active, that's all.

I think it's not too hard to fix by adding a simple mousedown check somewhere, i'll have a look and send you a message if i get to it.

But for real, it's also poor form too immediately assume ill intent. I wasn't even saying your mod is broken at all, just that fixing the issues in my patch is only possible by editing the base mod.

💬 Fuami, Sep 6th at 6:23 PM

Reguarding your issue; To my knowledge the left/right click behavior is engine specific, and not something I'm likly to change/fix/alter in Spyglass itself.

Its possible that the 1.21.1 might change the behavior based on my few tests in the RC.

I would appricate if you stop directing people to tell me to 'fix' my mod so that you can change the player interaction range without any repurcusions.

I understand that this is a simple approach to get the effect you want, and that makes it quite a tempting way to approach the problem, but it seems to me that your just avoiding the issue.

If you want to send a pull request to the base mode if you find a solution I'm more then open to it. But Its poor form to vaugly gesture in my direction and say, Fuami needs to fix their mod because you decided to change the players interaction range.

Maybe you could add compatibility with the "Zoom Button" mod that most people use now.

Honestly love this for spying on my Chickens to make sure they are brooding, or how many portions the hens have eaten.

Galena

Good catch!

I'll fix it!

ChimMAG
I'm on a bit of a hiatus from modding but if you could test if it works i'll update the description and tags

💬 ChimMAG, Aug 28th at 7:13 AM

Will you be updating to the new version?

💬 Galena, Aug 21st at 7:03 AM

There is a typo in modinfo.json in "name": "Spylass Info".

This is awesome i wish i could find a healthbar mod like this, freaking like 2 meter range on the healthbar mod im using even after attacking. Makes 1 life hardcore a bit difficult when you mosey up to a t-rex trying to see if hes sleeping or dead lol.

Excited to be able to better identify  local flora, fauna and lithosomes!

Tels

It's a patch for the original mod so you do need the original

💬 Zesus, Apr 7th at 6:49 AM

@Tels

My guy, it says it requires Spyglass as a prerequisite to function

💬 Tels, Apr 7th at 5:37 AM

Do I need both this mod and the spyglass mod, or does this mod replace the spyglass mod itself?

💬 Tels, Apr 6th at 8:17 PM

That is a neat idea! Loving it! 🧡
