Bring Historical Charm to Your Builds with Sliding Shutters!
Inspired by medieval craftsmanship, now available in Vintage Story.
In medieval times, glass windows were a rare luxury. To keep homes warm while still allowing airflow, people used wooden sliding shutters—simple yet effective solutions that offered protection from the elements and welcomed in the breeze on milder days.
This immersive mod brings that timeless utility and charm into Vintage Story!
Features:
-Interactive Sliding Shutters
Open and close with a right-click—great for ventilation on pleasant days or sealing up tight when the weather turns.
-New in the Latest Update: Fully Functional Shutters!
Now includes standard (non-over-glass) shutters that can be placed over open wall spaces to fully seal a room—ideal for temperature control or roleplay builds.
-Wood-Type Variants
Shutter textures automatically match the wood type of the solid trapdoor used in crafting.
-Multiple Sizes
Available in 1x1 and 2x1 versions—use them over windows, open holes, or even as decorative accents.
-Shoot Arrows!
You can now shoot though the shutters when they are opened!
-Seal or unseal your greenhouse.
If winter is coming, close the shutters to keep the greenhouse sealed and warm. When summer arrives, open them to let fresh air in and ventilate the space!
This is my very first mod for Vintage Story, so feedback is more than welcome!
The link above takes you to the forum page about the mod, but I also posted about it in the #mods channel on the official Vintage Story Discord server. You're welcome to ask questions, share feedback, or suggest ideas there as well!
If inspiration strikes, I plan to expand this mod with more furniture and decorative items in the future. Thanks so much for giving it a try!
-Planned Features:
-
Improved textures.
-
More shutter styles and decorative elements.
- Compatibility with Realistic Smoke
- Animation when interacting with shutters

First release of my first mod! | |||||||
I think their is already a mod made with openable windows. I dont want to step on anyone's toes and I will focus on my wooden shutters. But thank you for the idea!
probably an idea not made for this mod
but heres my idea regardless!
openable windows?
Thank you for the comment! Animating is not something I looked into when creating the mod, but I might give it a try for the next update.
Would be nice if the shutters had an animation to them sliding and opening. Still, like the mod, makes my home feel much more cozy during winter!
Picked up the game again and I started playing with realistic smoke. I think I see why it dosen't work at the moment, will probably update soon.
Thank you for your feedback!
I see you guys are a lot to request the compatibility with realistic smoke. I might have more freetime in 2026 to pickup my mod again and start upgrading it, especially if I find the motivation to do so.
Thanks again!
Joboy456 Realistic smoke compatability would be so cool!
Hello, thank you for the feedback!
It has been a long time since I last played so I didnt even knew about this realistic smoke mod, but it looks awsome.
To make it compatible, I would need to maybe communicatie with the smoke mode creatore so I can know how to make mine compatible.
If I see a lot of people wanting this, I might do an update for it.
Thank you again!
Been loving the mod. I use it on my windows all the time!
Hoping for a patch for the mod Real Smoke. So that smoke vents out of the shutters!
If you look at the shutter, like on the thumbnail of the mod, do you think they are too wide from left to right or are they too thick? From left to right I cant do anything about it since it needs to be symetrical to works. That being said, if you are talking about the thickness of the shutter, I see what you mean. It will be fixed on a futur update for sure.
It's good, but the sliding shutters are kinda... Wide. I'd like it if they were thinner, like the regular shutters in the mod.
Hello! Thx for the feedback.
Your are right for the material, I think I made them that way so it does not impact food spoiling since people use them a lot in scellars.
I could probably change that one day.
For the textures, I know that they are not the best, it is the normal wooden planks texture and since the block is bigger, the texture is zoomed in.
I am good enough in pixel art to make better textures, I might find an alternative if I decide to continue to work on the mod again.
Thank you again!
Wooden shutters break faster with a pickaxe 🤔 their material is "stone"
Also, I think the texture resolution is too low and kinda looks out of place with every other block in the game
Just made an update for the new game version, no change.
I'm currently thinking about adding frameless shutters, like the 2x1 or 1x1 variant. If you have any opinions or suggestions, feel free to share them here or on the Discord!
Joboy456 Brilliant! Perfect.
@AzuliBluespots - For the food preservation, they work to make your room a cellar, but they are made of wood so it is making the food preservation a little worst.
@Parenn - Yes they do! If you have a greenhouse and you close the shutters, your room will count has a greenhouse, if you open them, it does not.
If I put one of these in my greenhouse will it function like a vent? So when it's open the greenhouse doesn't heat up, but when it's closed it will? If so, that's a feature your should advertise, people want it!
I wonder if these help seal areas for food preservation, even if just a little.
Thanks for the feedback! I will keep the idea for a future content update I really like it. @DilanRona, can you contact me on the #mods tread of the vintage story discord about your bug, I would like to check it more in depth.
This is so cool! Shutters made of clay tiles would be amazing.
Great job with the mod. The half 2x1 shutters are working great as sliding doors for my build. Did notice one problem with the left and right 2x1 shutters, when placed next to each other. When open, I cannot approach it (seperatred by a full block), and I can only get close to the door when it is closed.
Version 1.2.3 is now live!
This update should address all the known bugs that have been reported to me—thanks again for the feedback! Apologies for the two recent patches being released so close together; in hindsight, I should have combined them into a single update.
If you encounter any more issues, feel free to reach out to me through any channel. If things remain stable, I’ll start working on new content soon—so if you have ideas or suggestions, I’d love to hear them! Everything will be considered.
Thank you for your comment! I already know about this issue and my next patch is gonna fix it I hope, sorry for your torch holder...
Slight issue, the side placement thing deleted my torch holder.
Thanks for the feedback! You are right it should be like this, I will look into it for the next update!
These are adorable! If it wouldn't be too hard to implement, I'd love to be able to fire arrows out of open shutters.
I made a discord post about the mod, the link should be above the page, feel free to contact me there for now, I will make a forum post tho you are right!. @DilanRona.
*Update, Forum post is made!
Is there anyway to contact you on the forums? Joboy456
Ahhh i love this idea, a fun alternative to my usual window styles.
Good idea! I will consider for my next update!
Could you add a variation for sliding doors? Will be perfect for my current build.
I am going to start working on a content update for the mod, feel free to check discord for more info!
Thanks a lot for your comment! I will wait to have just a little more feedback and I will start creating an update. Thank you for your feedback and tour idea!
Oooh, i adore this! I think adding variatons that swing shut would be really neat too. Also being able to add them to actual windows so you can use them for aesthetics and having diff variations would be awesome. I love this idea though and its definitely something thats been missing from the game, no more ealrty game hay block windows that I have to break to look outside!! Seriosuly, super excited about this one!
Hello, thank you for your comment! I like the idea but I will had to dig deeper into the idea to make it happend. I will keep the idea thank you!
Having the ability to add these onto a door would be awesome for holds/castles
Thanks for the feedback! I know that the textures aren't the best. I have had a hard time working on those, and I also know that when the shutter is opened, the texture is changing a little bit. When I will get more feedback, I will check about this issue.
textures feels a bit out of place when placed on another block
I will think about it, its a good idea
can there be a stone variant so it seals rooms better? as wood is not a good insulator and worsens perish speed
Thank you! If you have any feedback about it, feel free to let me know!
Love the idea. Ill give it a lookl ! Thanks for the mod !
Love that they seal the room when closed !
When the solid part of the block is covering the hole in your wall, yes, it seals the room. If you open the shutter and the hole is exposed, then the room won't be sealed.
Does it count as an open block when open, and sealed when closed?
