What does this mod do?

This mod alters the vanilla worldgen numbers in landforms.json. This means it changes world generation without adding code or additional files. It makes the world smoother and more majestic without making it feel overly rounded and boring. It does not remove all 'timeswept' areas; instead, it makes them rarer and more challenging to navigate.

It also patches geological provinces to have slightly thicker metamorphic layers, and increases the spawn rate of marble.

Assume this mod is not compatible with any mods that also alter landforms.json. I have not tested this mod with any other mod that alters world generation.

Created for the Tides of Fortune dedicated server.

What can I expect?

A large variety of terrain, more so than vanilla.

Interesting and inspiring features of all sizes and types.

Slightly smoother terrain overall, without being overly smooth and uninteresting.

Buildable areas in every type of terrain, with some areas being very suited to building (flat and open) and others requiring much more work.

Mountains will be more difficult to cross, but easier to go around.

Recommended Settings

Landcover: 40-80%

Landcover scale: 100 or 125%

GREY1122 I have looked into it a bit, and the answer is: maybe. Because this mod only modifies landforms, and rivers is built to use whatever landforms it's given, there's a chance it works flawlessly- but also I've seen with other mods like mine that alter landforms that you're more likely to get chunk generation issues inherent to the rivers mods when you use both at the same time

Looks good! is compatible with river o rivergen mod?

Edit:

after some tests the results are actually pretty good, I tried terra prety and conquest, both gave me problems, chopped chunks and performance issues, CaptainKlutz .

This is, hands down, THE BEST MOD I have ever used. I never realized how much of a hog world generation mod is. I have a fairly old GPU, an RX580 2048SP, and with this mod the game is running absolutely great.

Of course, my problem was solving my problem with generating traversable worlds. All my worlds had so many short bushes that i couldn't see anything. That and impassable walls. This mod addresses both in such a elegant way.

10/10.

Nah, I'm just saying that's what "overly rounded and boring" makes me think of ^^
I feel vanilla is too much chaotic but Terra Prety is way too flat...
Criticism is not devaluation : people like different things for different reasons but holding back critics is way more damaging than expressing them!
If I were Terra Prety dev I would prefer people to tell me it's way too flat cause if enough people think that, maybe I'd want to do something about it :-3
But you did, so it's ok : we clearly needed a fair middleway cause it hurts the experience to be deprieved of vanilla chaos while it's really frustrating to have it all over the place :-p

I didn't name any other world gen mods because I think each one provides a valuable way to experience the game. I simply said I didn't want to have my mod make terrain boring; you are putting words in my mouth. I would not like the developers of Terra Prety or any other mod to feel devalued, because the quality of their work is evident in their mods. They are simply in a different style to this one. Please don't make rude jabs on my mod page, and consider how the people who spend tens of hours making mods that thousands of people enjoy might feel when reading your comments. Thank you

Overly rounded and boring is Terra Prety? Sounds like so X-)

If you want to play a long term world, border cliff will happen even if you play vanilla. I just imagine in my head that some temporal sheanigan where afoot.
I love that you didn't simply fully remove some of the more chaotic terrains. Nearly all of the vanilla landform that people point out as broken, chaotic, ugly, unrealistic actually do exist irl and should still exist in the game in my eyes. They are just to common for my taste.

I find it useful to know how much change and how jaring it will be overall and yes, you resumed it well. The key landmass/landform and their distribution are similar but the terrains itself is quite different.
A hill cut in the middle is pretty tame and fine with me. It can even be smoothed over with world edit and creative if you are dedicated enough. You half explored sea suddenly turning into a kilometer high glacial peak is not. =D

Hi Vherkin, thank you so much for your lovely feedback! My goal was to make a perfect balance between vanilla and existing terrain mods and I'm glad you feel that it's succeeded at that.

While I wouldn't recommend it, yes, it is possible to switch to this worldgen mid-playthrough, and I'm glad it worked out for you. I did change some key numbers over almost all of vanilla generation that could make transitions in certain areas very rough, but in other areas the differences will be small. But the key landmasses should be mostly the same, which is what you seem to be experiencing. Great to know! Thanks again

Tried it, I love it!
I don't know why but it just hit the spot between vanilla looking and more beautiful terrains.
I created a test world where i didn't change setting and used the default game one and it was impressive.

I was so impressed i switched my current game to it in fact and discovered something. It is extremely vanilla game friendly!
If you add/remove It midplay, since the mod is close to vanilla, ocean, coastline, mountain, desert and other seems to be in the same place. You will have still have some sheer cliff at the edge of old and new generation but it will most of the time be small and still lead to the same kind of terrain.
It's probably the best you can get while still changing generation mid-game.

OOOooooo! Trying this now.

It does look interesting =D
