Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.1 - 1.21.2, potentially outdated):
wargear_1.0.3.zip  1-click install

This mod adds weapons, arms, and armour that are rooted in historical accounts of bandits, highwaymen, and mercenaries.

Decision makeing, resource requirement, and opportunity cost are the three main goals of Wargear. The weapons and armours added by this mod seeks to introduce Vanilla+ options to expand your armoury, with different use cases for each item added!

Planning to duel a friend in a blood-soaked arena, or fighting at dawn on the open plains?
Then the bastard sword is for you!

Wanting to complement your new set of armour, or help shave off chip damage over a long excusion?
Consider the bevor, just watch out for the cold!

The Bastard Sword, sometimes refered to a Hand-and-a-Half Sword or the Longsword, offers long reach and lethal cutting power. Accessable after entering the bronze age, bastard swords offer slightly less range than the spears though and superior damage over the falx. However, the keen blade of a bastard sword can dull quite easily. This results in a significantly lowered durability for the sword. The bastard sword additionally suffers a 20% penalty to damage if the wielder's off hand is occupied, due to having to use weaker, one-handed strikes.

The Bevor is segment of armour that is designed to protect the neck, jaw, and throat. These are made from Iron, Meteoric Iron, or Steel plates, and secured with thick leather straps. A bevor has a 25% chance to completely protect the wearer from low damage attacks, such as those from the claws of a surface drifter. Bevors work alongside other armours, and are worn in the neck slot.

Latest version, (1.0.3) labeld as "for game versions 1.21.1 - 1.21.2" throws the following on a 1.21.1 Server

[Server Error] [wargear] Could not resolve some dependencies:
[Server Error] [wargear] game@1.21.2 - Version mismatch (has 1.21.1)

The mod then refuses to load.

Thank you for the praise! I'd love to look into implementation with other mods, since that's something I'd really want to learn. I plan to add a few additional weapons and the like with similar levels of polish and with niches.
For now, I think I'll focus on getting 1-3 weapons with either PvP Dueling or PvE Exploration use cases. (e.g. the bastard sword is good for 1-v-1 duels, and fights in open areas where you don't need a shield or offhand!)

Very nice addition to the arsenal! I wonder how it compares to the long sword that almost certainly exists in the Forgotten Armory series. Eh. It's still nice to have a mod like this that does one thing really well.

Mods which would benefit Warfear should it later add optional features (enabled only when the given mods are loaded):

  • Smithing Plus
  • Toolsmith
  • Salty's Manual: Tool Crafting

"How", you ask? I don't know. I haven't looked at how other mods do it, yet.
