Inspired by the fact meteoric iron was used well before the iron age and the fact meteorites can contain a fairly substantial variety of metals, I made this mod, it's likely not as balanced as other mods that similarly make meteoric iron available earlier, so keep that in mind if you choose to use it.
Allows meteoric iron to be mined with copper tools, worked on copper anvils, smelted in a firepit so long as you have a hot enough fuel, and changes the drops of meteorite blocks.
Meteorites now have a chance to drop small amounts of various metals in addition to meteoric iron and a decent amount of nickel, some of the meteoric iron will be usable right away
Version 1.0.0 is what I personally use and is a bit over powered
Version 1.0.1 has reduced meteoric iron yields and no steel bit drops
Version 1.0.2 has reduced nickel drops, faster meteoric iron smelting in a firepit, and a recipe to break the meteoric iron chunks into meteoric iron bits, but is otherwise based on 1.0.0
Version 1.0.3: Fixed folder structure so the metal bit recipe actually works

BlueFuryDragon I have no idea why the game wont let you smelt the meteorite pieces in a firepit as long as you have a hot enough fuel since it works fine for me, but at least the work around solution works as intended.
I can't smelt the iron meteorite pieces in the bloomery or the firepit you can put them in a crucible but it doesn't melt), I have charcoal set to the right temp for the meteorite bits and they melt but the other doesn't, so what is the problem? I'm in 1.21. Nevermind I updated to the 1.0.3 and now I can break them into bits and melt them.
Storyteller365 I don't recall if you need to load a world or just launch the game to get the config filled since it's been so long since I did anything with it, but here's an example of something that would go under "items" between the brackets from my config:
"coke": {
"BurnTemperature": 2500,
"BurnDuration": 480.0,
"HeatResistance": 500,
"MeltingPoint": 0,
"MaxTemperature": 0,
"MeltingDuration": 0.0,
"SmokeLevel": 1.0,
"SmeltedRatio": 1,
"SmeltingType": 0,
"SmeltedStack": null,
"RequiresContainer": true
}
Once I enable Autofill 'true' will it show up in the game, or so I edit it, because I have it like this:
{
"Enabled": false,
"AutoFill": true,
"Description": "Configure burning temperature and time, output stack (e.g. nugget => ingot) etc.",
"Examples": {
"SmeltingType": [
"0 = Smelt",
"1 = Cook",
"2 = Bake",
"3 = Convert",
"4 = Fire"
]
},
"Blocks": {},
"Items": {}
}
Storyteller365 Roaming -> VintageStoryData -> ModConfig -> Configure Everything -> Server -> CombustibleProperties
I'd suggest setting autofill to true, then changing the "BurnTemperature" for the main fuels in the game, for example, I have lignite(brown coal) burn at 700C, black coal burn at 900C, anthracite at 1200C, and both coke and charcoal at 2500C
Question, how do I configure the Configure Everything mod into change the Vanilla's Fuel to burn more hotter, because I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
Travisplo With the most recent version, the drops should be a random assortment of metal bits which can, but won't always, include iron, nickel, steel, gold, silver, platinum, and copper, in addition, you should also get chunks of meteoritic iron and potentially ingots
So, are there any metals that don't drop from Meteors? Is Steel the only alloy that can drop?
KarlMarxwell You could go into the mod and change the temperature required, install a mod that adds fuels that burn hot enough, or what I do which is use configure everything to change the burn temps of vanilla fuels
(Configure everything found here: https://news.kalataka.ru/configureeverything)
I have vanilla fuels configured(using the above mod) so that they burn at their maximum realistic temperature
i am unable to melt the meteoric iron pieces, i can´t put them in the bloomery, it says i can put them in a firepit, but there is no fuel to reach 1500°
Yukari_75 Thank you very much!

So, what does this do, exactly? I'm guessing that Meteoric Iron can be mined using earlier tool tiers, and that meteorite deposits can contain other metals too. What are the details, though?
