Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.20.11 - 1.20.12, 1.21.0 and 1.21.1, potentially outdated):
MakeSalt-v1.2.1.zip
1-click install
This is a simplified version of another one of my mods. You can create salt by cooking it in a pot.
This mod should work in 1.21+. I tested this mod myself, and it works just fine.

I changed the time it takes to make salt to be slightly longer than normal.
| 1.2.0 | makesalt | 355 | Oct 1st at 6:07 PM | MakeSalt-v1.2.0.zip | 1-click install | ||

This will make all the slots for the seawater to produce salt, but the text stating that you can't will still appear.
| 1.1.0 | makesalt | 1581 | Jul 21st at 3:56 AM | MakeSalt-v1.1.0.zip | 1-click install | ||

I removed a patch that disabled the ability to pick up seawater.

I also added this feature to one of my mods
but I additionally disabled the ability to create a source of salt water anywhere, because then you can take a bucket, scoop water from the sea, make a source of salt water in the middle of the continent in your home, and pump salt from it forever.😀
If you also want to disable this feature, take the no-saltwater-source patch from the Long-term food mod, it is located in assets/pemmican/patches.🤝
MobiusvanMars I like your idea, so I decided to make the time it takes to make salt slightly longer instead so that more material is used to cook it instead.
This mod is a life saver given how hard it is to find halite, but it is also way too easy.
IRL it is not enough to boil seawater, you have to evaporate it. Ant that takes much more heat over time (still only 100C though).
My suggestion is to give it a cooking time that scales with the amount of seawater. Not too much, but enough to not mass produce salt too easily. Say 20 ingame minutes per liter of seawater, this will then be 6 salt per ingame hour per firepit (3x1Lx2).
Synx I am glad it worked! Thanks for using my mod, and please continue to let me know of any problems.
GladiolusOsei Tested and it works now, thank you very much! hazzah!
Synx Okay, so I ran some tests, and I think I know why that is happening. The good news is that I was able to fix the issue preventing you from making more salt. But the text saying you can't will still happen. Just ignore that for now. It will take a while to fix that issue.
GladiolusOsei After testing the game in vanilla in creative, except for this mod, I still run into the same issue.
GladiolusOsei I don't run that mod, I think the only real major mod I run is the Firearms mod, everything else is small tweaking mods, it seems like I might need to go through my mods one by one and find the culprit, thank you!
Synx Are you using the Expanded Foods mod? If so, you have to use the ceramic cooking pot. This mod will only work using the base game cooking pot.
GladiolusOsei Actually, no, that's not what's happening. I have 6 liters of seawater in all four cooking slots, and it tells me the cooking pot is too small to make the resulting amount of salt.
Synx To clarify, you are using 6 liters of seawater in all 4 cooking slots and are only getting 6 salt in total, right?
Synx Can you tell me more about what mods you are using? I personally use this mod, and I don't see a problem with it in my game, even with over 30 mods in total.
Still unable to make more than six units of salt at a time, still being told the cooking pot is too small.
It seems I can't make more than 6 salt at a time, It says the cooking pot is too small?
Kuppancs gotcha, is there an easy way to tell what water is sea water vs what is fresh? Do I need to start a new world for this mod to work?
Ok so oops, yea I was stupid enough to use freshwater at first. KnapTheStones 😀
Lucky me the world generation setup is nice so there is plenty of sea around so, SEAWATER is what we need TrainDoc
Kuppancs, I am also experiencing the same issue
Are you putting saltwater in? Kuppancs
I should be just putting 1L of water in a pot, then fire under it to start the process, yes?
Somehow it does not work for me, might collides with some other mod :\
Awesome thanks!
JeanPierre Hey, thanks for downloading my mod! To answer your question, no, it doesn't matter as long as it is seawater.
Hello! Thanks for the mod, I do have a question. Does it distinguish between landlocked water (lakes, etc.) and the sea?
GladiolusOsei Your patch works perfectly. Thank you very much :)
Haviland I updated the mod to exclude the file that was causing the error. So it should work now.
Haviland Thank you for downloading my mod! But I am sorry to see that it is causing an error. Can you tell me which version of the game you are on?
Thank you for making this mod, it seems like a fantastic addition! However, I noticed it causes the following error when loading a game:
[Server Error] Patch 0 (target: game:itemtypes/liquid/saltwaterportion.json) in game:patches/removesaltwater-patches.json failed because supplied path /attributes/waterTightContainerProps/whenSpilled/stackByFillLevel is invalid: The json path /attributes/waterTightContainerProps/whenSpilled/stackByFillLevel was not found. Why is this not base game?
