The Original Mod has now been updated to v1.21.1
Insane that this mod still works for 1.21.0, this mod is great! Minor issue is that the meteors don't spawn meteoric iron, aside from the regular Iron that it drops, but that's it. I love how whenever a meteor falls, its a gamble of what kind of ore it will be or if it will be large enough to destroy your base. Anyone who uses this, I highly recommend setting the Destructive in config to "true" to allow crators to be made in your world.
This mod is amazing and I'd love to see it updated, a current bug I've noticed is taht if the meteor his anything around water will turn all the destroyed blocks around it into water. Neet effect tho.
Shion Mod starts fine on 1.20.12, I've been using it both on my server and singleplayer games for months.
Barnard That happens if the meteor airbursts. If it hits the ground (or close enough to the ground, I guess) it'll drop items in a tidy little pile. It may also string items in a long, narrow line if it's going to hit the ground and you're already close to the intended impact site. Using one of the mods that shows entities and items on the minimap is helpful for finding the exact spot. Note this is with terrain destruction disabled.
Also +1 to the 1.21 update please. I know you said no updates will be provided but it would be nice if you'd at least maintain current version compatibility if nothing else.

It might be a coincidence, but the two times I've seen the impact of a meteor it explodes above the ground and leaves no trace whatsoever on ground level beneath it nor around it.
Lack of config doesn't let the mod start.

I'm getting an issue where every single block is replaced with water ABOVE sea level. I tweaked the config to add more chaos and a large blast radius and then got slapped with a mass extinction event right outside my house. Now there is flowing water for every block that was mountainside, bringing my game to 10 seconds per frame, then crashing whenever I open the world. Thankfully, I backed up my world, but now I have to disable the mod in case it happens again.
Just a heads up for the next version: The modinfo still expects 1.19 as the game version.

That's the default setting. You need to enable terrain destruction in the config file if you want proper impacts. Otherwise they'll just explode and drop a few ressources around the ground.
I have meteors that will come burning in through the sky loudly and then break midair. These seem like the ones that are supposed to crash into the ground but for me, they always explode in the air. I do have a bunch of mods.
