The default forging values for arrows in Vintage Story are a bit odd. You have the option of making 6 or 9 arrows, both requiring just 1 ingot. Meaning you lose out on arrows/metal if you choose to make 6. This also means if you use a plate to make arrows easier you lose out on 1 ingot.
This mod replaces the recipe for 6 with the one for 9, and replaces the one for 9 with 18 (requires two ingots or a plate). That way you lose out on no arrows or ingots! You can even use plates now to easily "punch out" the arrows with the 18 recipe.
Must be installed on server and client in order to work in multiplayer
This mod is included in my larger recipe mod, Simple Crafting Additions!

Initial release:
9 arrows still use 1 ingot as before, and 18 arrows use two ingots or 1 plate. |
smt923 If it doesn't change it already then I can probably update this mod to include a patch for that, but I'll have to check out combat overhaul's recipe first.
any way to get this to also apply to the combat overhaul more arrows arrowheads? if it doesn't automatically?
It should still work yes, but I'll be checking all my mods when the new 1.20 update comes out soon! SteAStro88
Hey, Do you know if this works on 1.19.8?
Works great on 1.19.7

Yeah I spent a ridiclous amount of time checking every possible pattern and thought at one point I had figured something out but nope (had a weird layout where I considered some voxels to be "punched out"). I think I did figure out the actual amount of arrows you could realistically make with 1 ingot was 12, but it was still technically possible to make 14). I might change the pattern of the 18 arrow one to somthing slightly easier to hammer out if I can figure out a better layout.

I agree with your conclusion. 2-voxel arrowheads wouldn't work because that would amount to 36 voxels, and each ingot offers 42 voxels. With 3-voxel arrowheads, 18 of them use up 54 out of 81 of a plate's voxels, which is better, but there's no way to get that ratio (2:3) without the sides touching:
I think your current pattern is as good as it's going to get!
Also if folks are curious, there was a better pattern for the 18 arrow option; BUT it was enough voxels that you could just use 1 ingot.. which kinda breaks the balance and makes it pointless to make the 9 arrow one. So for now the 18 arrow recipe goes slightly outside of the plate. If anyone has a better pattern feel free to let me know, but as far as I can tell there's no way to do 18 arrows without either it being 1 ingot's worth OR going outside of the plate.
