Resource Return is a small “quality-of-life” Vintage Story mod that ensures your tools don’t vanish completely when they break Instead of simply destroying your pickaxes, shovels or hammers when their durability hits zero, this mod automatically returns a configurable number of raw material “bits” back into your inventory or drops them on the ground.

Key Features

• Tool-Break Recovery – When any tool reaches zero durability, it spawns fragments of its base material (flint, copper, bronze, iron, steel, etc.) so you recoup part of your investment.

• Configurable Returns – A JSON config (stored in Mods/returnresources/returnresources.json) lets you adjust, per-material, how many bits you get back (min/max) and tweak the chance to recover a rubber duck.

• Rubber Duck Easter Egg – On every block break there’s a small chance (default 0.005%) to find a cute rubber duck in your inventory or at your feet. It even quacks!

Getting Started

Install: copy the ReturnResources folder into your Mods directory.

Launch the game; the mod will generate returnresources.json with sensible defaults.

Tweak bit-return counts or duck spawn chance in the JSON, then restart.

Whether you’re a seasoned caver or a block-mining newcomer, Return Resources helps soften the sting of tool breakage—and rewards you with a little extra loot (and quack) every now and then!

Updated, tweaked duck spawn rate to something more sane. either remove config and let it regenerate or edit it yourself. no other changes.

default duck rate is far to high, will turn down next release. for now tweak the config.
