wojtek16 I use 1.2.4 and I'm going to test it now, if I can remember ill let you know how it goes!
would be neat to have an upgraded version that requires power (to shake the pan) as a tradeoff for more throughput
RyanDaYeen Can you send me additional info and screens via Discord please? You can find me on official VS server, there is thread for this mod on "Mods" forum
vanilla chest, block behind is empty, is in water, think we have a storage sorting mod but idk if that would cause an issue. just a plain wooden chest
RyanDaYeen Is block behind empty? Do you use vanilla chest or modded?
You can contact me via Discord to give me more details.
Download7 Thank you for playing with this mod!
Input chest is not planned, maybe steel version of panning machine will have more input slots but disabled by default.
awesome mod but cannot get the machine to work if there is a chest infront for the output. shows it moving mechanically but it just never processes. once the chest is removed it works again
Love it so much thank you!!!
Wish I could have an input chest..... hopefully soon, maybe on the upgraded model?
Sloan yeah chutes and hoppers are not working because of balance - I didn't want to create machine that is "set and forget", you have to regularly check and add new materials for panning
CrazyUncleSole That would be awesome, thanks!
> Also, I do think the dev of xskills is away from modding because I haven't heard or seen anything from him in a bit.
Yeah I wrote to him and still waiting for response
GreatMightyOrb yes Vintage Story has weird issues with Garbage Collector, e.g. if you load one world, play on it for like 15 minutes, then go to the main menu, load it again, some RAM is not released, and if you do it multiple times you will be out of RAM and some weird things can happen on this world. You have to restart game instead of reloading world to be safe
So yes, it might be ram issue

I did use Claude to document a few of the files and what things do on xskill, but I never finished it because I've been busy with server stuff and IRL stuff. But if you want, I can send those docs over—they might help. They also may not be fully accurate, so you'll still need to spend a few hours messing around with things, but it should help a little.
Throw me your Discord and I can send them over. nvm i found it and sent you a friend request
Also, I do think the dev of xskills is away from modding because I haven't heard or seen anything from him in a bit.
Marieldril So after about 6 hours of trying to hunt down what was borking the loot tables, I got absolutely nothing. I manually went through my entire modlist only to end up not even being able to reproduce it. The panning loot is all showing up like it should without any bizzare items in the mix. If I had to guess, VS had some... Internal mod load order or GC issue that fixed itself after disabling/slowly reinabling all mods. Even after redoing the tests with the exact same mods loaded, on the exact same versions, on the same testworld and then on a new world, there was no more funny loot.
I can't find a way to manually create a crashlog for a neat list of mods and their specific version, but heres everything pulled from the client/server log, 73 mods in total:
Is it intentional that the hopper on top doesn't accept input from other hoppers, chutes, etc? I'm aware they accept input from the back but it would be consistent visually
CrazyUncleSole Okay I will check how you did it, thank you! I decompiled it before with dnSpy, but I don't know how patching works yet.
I don't want to add a separate mod for this (everyone uses xSkills so I want to support it natively), so you don't have to make your own patch for this - of course you will be credited in the changelog
FYI, you can also patch stuff with xskill on your side, like I did with the pottery wheel xskill XP patch. Just know you will need to decompile xskill and xlib for that to understand how to patch it. We may use this on our server, and if so, I will probably make an xskill patch that makes it compatible.
AzraelsScythe Oh my god I totally forgot about this. Yes, it is intended, I thought it would be good if water can "wash" this so block behind needs to be empty.
This may not work correctly if the water requirement in the config is disabled, I will check this.
I am so sorry that I wasted your time. Thank you for pointing this out, I added this information to the description.
LordSauron22 Can you check if this was your problem?
Marieldril I figured out why it wasn't working!!! Well, for me at least. Apparently, having a block behind it stops it from working. I don't know if that was intended behavior, but having a block against the side of the machine opposite where the chest goes stops it from panning or outputting to the chest. Of course, I only figured this out after turning off every mod I had and then turning them on again in groups of five and then doing that again on creative when nothing changed. Finally just decided to go caveman on it and break everything around it and lo and behold, it started panning. So it was not mods, it was me trying to keep things compact in my smithy.
Marieldril Im using vanilla double chests I also tested with a vanilla single chest and had the same problem.
GreatMightyOrb Wow, I noticed that now, WTF is that output. What mods do you use? There should be no situation where you get chromium items, I even double checked it now (but if you use some mod that modifies drop that is okay)
KromaVeli I don't know I understand you correctly, but I am aware of xSkills issue - already wrote to the author.
xSkills is in beta so fix can be from their side.
LordSauron22 are you using vanilla chests? Or do you use modded containers e.g. sortable storage? I know there is an issue with xSkills which is modifying some vanilla logic.
GreatMightyOrb I do not modify drop tables, it's from wooden pan - purely random drop.
Steel version will have slightly better drop and nearly zero chance to drop nothing. (Thanks for idea wojtek16!)
Yes you are right about chute output, I didn't implement this yet - will do 👍
As for the hopper, it works that way for balance reasons.
Thank you for testing! If you have any other issues or ideas, I would be very grateful if you could let me know.
Right off the bat, great idea for giving bony soil an actual use in mid/lategame. Noticed 2 issues with the mod so far; loottables seem to be really screwy and not actually pulling from the panning tables and there doesn't seem to be chute functionality with the machines.
64 Bony Soil in each machine; 9 machines:https://imgur.com/a/AIcfCaa
I cant seem to get it to work. When i put a chest in what i presume to be the front (based on the picture) it doesnt pan
Edit: Got it to work by putting a hopper in the front with a chest under it
your latest version is working. thanks
the only way to download it is that there is no process, the rotor is not displayed correctly, but I no longer see it, the game version is 1.21.4 and xSkills 0.9.0 is pre.2 and XLib 0.9.0-pre.2
Marieldril Unfortunately I did not test it so heavily with the interaction with XSkills so I can't answer that at the moment, but it works perfectly in every way but outputting into the chest. The machine works, but I have to manually remove the items it finds one at a time as they are found. I am not home right now, so I cannot provide much more info than that at the moment. I am also the carry on mod and the sortable storage mod, but I was trying with a normal chest, not a sortable one. Those are the only mods I have that effect containers I believe. Not sure if those could be causing the issue.
KromaVeli AzraelsScythe I tested it on 1.20.12 with xSkills enabled and only thing that was broken was rotor not rendering correctly for some reason. I think there is some conflict in xSkills patching (it tweaks many vanilla things), I will write to the author.
What version of xSkills do you use? Is this happening with specific skill obtained? Is machine working but not outputting to the container?
I would be grateful for any additional information.
What does "renderer is broken when xskills mod is enabled" mean? Is that why I cannot get it to output to a chest? Everything else seems to working fine with Xskills enabled.
to make the mod work with the xSkills mod. because while xSkills is working, yours is not working.
bintoss I've never heard about this mod before
Yes, purpose is the same
From what I can see main difference is obviously mechanical power, second is output balance - hand panning 8/block, panning machine 6/block, sluice 1/block
KromaVeli what do you mean exactly? Adding additional skills dedicated to panning machine?
Oh, interesting. It serves the same purpose as a sluice, but it's technically a mechanically-driven rocker (or something like the helve hammer toggle) with a pan attached.
I wonder how it compares to sluices from Still Useful Stuff and Sluices.
please try to do this together with xSkills.
wojtek16 Yes I have plans to do two other standalone machinery mods like this one. I don't know if I will make them before 1.22 tho, first I will focus on compability with other mods and making some upgrades like steel version
perfect emmersive
Wow, this is a super cool idea for a mod!
I understand this is a standalone mod, but do you have any plans for anything else in the future in the machinery world? I know 1.22 is supposed to have some of these mechanics introduced but just curious :D
dinosawrrr It should work according to WearAndTear mods description, but I haven't tested it out yet.
I didn't do anything to support other mods, this mod is using vanilla Mechanical Power so if other mods are using this it should work without any problems.
Is it compatible with WearAndTear?
Nico_Nico_Nyx Thanks for testing!
Hell yeah, thank you for testing, already added to our server!
I agree with the idea of a steel version option for better drops at the cost of speed/power too if that is something that can be tweaked.
So excited to add this to my collection of machines, this is my favorite part about Vintage story!!
Hey, I have tested your mod in the latest 1.21.5 version of the game and it works perfectly with no issues. I think you can mark your mod to work with 1.21 no problem :)
based
wojtek16 It should work on 1.21.x but I haven't tested it yet, still playing on 1.20.12
I think it's balanced nicely with what it does now, but it may be a good idea to make a steel version for better drops, but at the cost of processing time (slower but more precise)
Have a few questions!
Would this work in 1.21.4 or 1.21 in general? If so would love to use it, super cool addition to late stage game!
Looking into late stage, do you think you might make it an option to implement something that would make it a little harder, or rewarding such as better loot using your auto panning machine? Like a higher potential for tools, but costing more resources/maintenance or something along those lines?
