Are there kawara ceramic roof tiles in the mod already or in the plans? The basic shingles don't do it for me.
Avatarious
Fair enough. I'm just not as confident in dealing with entities that change over time.
Yes but it seemed very basic and not at all beautiful is all.
Avatarious
You... you do realize there are already cherry trees in the game that produce pink leaves... right?
Is there any way I could ask for you to consider adding in a beautiful japanese style cherry blosom tree and have possibly neet affects like pink petals falling, the ability to attach lanterns or paper lanterns to it or something like that? It would just be nice to see one of these like: https://ph.pinterest.com/pin/13299761395775485/ or https://ph.pinterest.com/ideas/minecraft-blossom-tree/908771522436/
Also, holy shit guys. 15k+ downloads. You guys freakin rock!

For anyone else who tries to click on the above link, its linking to the official thread in the official VS discord, which you have to be in to get into. So if you're not in the official VS discord, that link won't work.
either i am dumb or i cannot find it lol i type in serch bar name japanese architecture or each word separate but nothing shows :D if oyu can link it that will be best
Damonicus1986
I'm all for it, I have a thread in the official discord if that'd be easier.
feel free to do so i dont mind. i plan to build full village but as of now it would feel bit repetetive thats why asked for more blocks :D i can give you reference images if needed :D
Damonicus1986
Do you mind if I add this screenshot to the page with credit?
unHallowed
Thank you so much. That actually means more than you know 😁
Just wanted to pop over and say I LOVE the storage chests. The animation of all the drawers opening is so satifying!
Please add more blocks :D i need to finish my village ;D
SoplinDoplin
You'd have to ask Junoweed, they provided that screenshot.
LilianaXolkiyr what are the wall and ceilling pieces in the first image those arent in this mod are they? and if not what mod are they from?
Thank you for letting me know! :3
LunaTheFox
Please keep in mind that as of 1.21.1 there is a slight glitch in multiplayer that for some reason the Tansu Trunks only appear right for the person who places them down until others log off and back on. I'm still trying to figure out why that is but my focus is somewhat spread thin atm.
Awesome!
AHHH I've been waiting for a mod like this to come out! Thank You!!!!
pimblokto I plan to eventually, yes
aWhatsit Thank you for testing it, I really appreciate that.
Khana I just followed logic, lol but thank you.
As a side note to anyone not in the thread in the official VS discord, I'm currently unable to work on the mod at the moment as I'm working on a few paid gigs at the moment to make ends meet. So I will be hopping back on this as soon as time and money allow. Thank you all for the support you've shown thus far, I honestly never thought this mod would get the traction that it has and I hope it continues to bring people joy.
Much love, your coding gremlin, Liliana
i LOVE the tansu storage!!!!!!! <3
So far this mod is working fine with 1.21. Have crafted/used the majority of items without issue in single player.
Will you add a plaster half wall?
Laholder
Yes, please provide a modlist as, by default, even on 1.20.11, it should not be behaving this way. It sounds like something is interferring with the animation of the Shoji Door.
If you're on the VS Discord, we have a post in the mods forum.
https://discord.com/channels/302152934249070593/1373386702793740400
Very sexy mod. However I'm experiencing a strange bug with the shoji doors. When you open one, the door's hitbox will go to the left or right like it's supposed to, but the door's model does this weird 90 degree rotation outward while following the hitbox. So it ends up completely detatching from it's actual hitbox and juts out from the walls. Trying double doors did not fix this.
The server we're running is ver 1.20.11 with a rather stacked modlist. Obviously I'm willing to provide more specifics if that can help.
Also, with this current patch as of 0.9.4, can people tell me if there are any other recipes that aren't working and let me know if the ones that weren't working in 0.9.3 do work now?
Neyonic Thighz
Can both of you attempt on a creative save with only my mod? Also, what version of the game are you running on? I know that at least up to 1.20.10 it interacted interestingly with some mods but as they were on servers I'm no longer on, I'm not entirely sure which mod it was that was causing it.
EDIT: The hitbox is wierd because it takes into account the original block space, so when it moved outside of that space it only works on the very very edge that's STILL in the blockspace. I'm not 100% sure how to fix that as the base door code only works because most doors do not leave their original block space.
Neyonic Yeah had the same because the hitbox is directional
Awesome mod, having some issues with the shoji sliding door as the animation isnt working. when opened they simply open as regular doors would, The "hit box" of the door correctly moves however the visual door rotates as if it was a regular door.
pimblokto
it's mostly decorative, you just place a campfire in the center and bowls can be placed either on the inside or outside of the stone border.
How do we use the hearth floor block? Is it just decorative, or can we light it somehow?
Yamahi
Unfortunately thats just for the animation, even if you changed that, the collisions wouldn't reset. It'd have to be done in the code I'd Imagine and I'm not sure how to do that.
Would there be a way for me to get the panel doors to auto close after a few seconds.
I can see in the JSON it's set to hold after the open animation plays. Is there anything I could change so on open it doesn't hold and like waits 3 seconds and auto plays the close animation?
Fixed the crafting recipes, not sure why its doing that to be honest but I added the nata hatchet to the pillar recipe. Going to work on the half wall bits next as well and then once I have it done, I'll upload the fixed version.
somedogs
I can definitely look into making them able to be turned into planks and slabs. As for why its trying to make them into pillars only, I'm trying to figure out why its doing that. Last time I messed with it it was working just fine. though not discrediting yours and Viktor's issues.
I've also got an issue with crafting the Yakimatsu-Ito Wall with both Oiled, Lightly and Moderately Charred Redwood. The output is always just the Pillar. Could it be because the game is registering it as crafting a stack of pillars? I've got a few mods running, too: PetAI, Food/Purposeful Storage and OneRoof, if that helps.
Also - I'd absolutely love if the Yakimatsu-Ito boards could be made into vanilla-type plank blocks; they're very nice colours, and I'd love to be able to make chiselled walls out of them, or just have a two-sided wall that can hold up shelves and the like.
Noctisvah
might I suggest:
https://news.kalataka.ru/anmitechco
This is so good it gave me cravings for more asian inspired armor and weapons mods.
DrKlinger
When I make the next update, I'll probably make a cut down version of all the walls.
ViktorPetrykor
is it only the oiled pine one?
LilianaXolkiyr
Yep, two in each slot, but it only lets me craft the pillars. This could very well be an issue with some other mod somehow, I have more loaded than is probably wise :p
@LilianaXolkiyr
Yes, something like that!
DrKlinger
Would you think a saw and the wall splitting the top and bottom, would that be fitting to what you want?
ViktorPetrykor
You're doing two in all three slots?
I'm encountering an issue trying to craft yakimatsu-ito wall with oiled pine - it's only crafting the pillar, despite having the correct number of boards in the slots
This is a super cool mod!
Only small request is to add two blocks that are just the upper half of the Garusu & Shoji walls!
Themourningstar
I think I may have figured out the issue with the recipe. Not sure why it was allowing it to work when the type for one of the parts was item when it should have been block. I'm going to do some further testing but there should be an update up shortly.
JCGemX
I'm attempting to fix the errors you found as well, please let me know with the next update if that resolves the errors.
JCGemX
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'll take a look at it.
Themourningstar
I'm taking a look into it now, I'll get back to you momentarily.
I seem to be running into an issue where the Torii gate top pillar connection cannot be constructed even when the appropriate components are put where the recipe suggests, any idea how I can fix that?
Not game-crashing, but I just noticed these in my log:

New Milestone! We've surpassed 3k downloads!
Once more, thank you all for making my mod as popular as it has been. Special thanks goes out to Junoweed for the amazing screenshots!
I fixed the donation link at the top, I think the link had been malformed. Though as I say at the bottom of the page, only give what you have the means to and nothing more. It only helps but does not hurt if you can't. I kinda hate that I let someone convince me to even put it there in the first place.
@LilianaXolkiyr
@Archeodoptera
@ParallelPenguins
The flat roof pieces are from the mod extended creation and the trellis is from the mod Wildcraft fruit and nut
Archeodoptera
Those screenshots were actually more thanks to Junoweed, I am however working with a modeler to make accompanying roof pieces.
ParallelPenguins
I can at least confirm that they are not in this mod, but I'd be more than excited to try and work something like that into this.
Junoweed In your screenshots for this mod there are what look like lattice blocks or something on the ceiling and around the top of the exterior walls. Where did you get those? I can't find them in this mod.
This mod just keeps getting better! Also I cannot help but notice that you've used the new Extended Creation mod in your screenshots. Are the flat roof blocks appealing with your Japanese set? I'd make your mod a permanent fixture in my modlist if I could only figure out how to make the roofs look as elegant as the wall panels!
ViktorPetrykor
I noticed that myself, but it seems no matter how I rotate it, it just does not fit one side or the other.
If anyone is willing to look into the shape for it and find a way that works, I'd not only be in your debt but I'd add you as a contributor.
Hey there! Loving the mod so far, but I noticed something that bothers me a little - the plank texture on the hearths doesn't line up with plank blocks if you put them next to it. It's a small thing, but it really stands out, and it'd look a lot better if the textures lined up imo
festivneer
I'm trying to figure out how to do stuff like with the wattle and daub and firepits and pitkilns and what-not, so that is on the docket of possible improvements.
unique tool for oak frame pieces would probably be an important thing as it eliminates any issues with other mods that do the saw/boards combo, like the better sticks mod) so that's gonna definitely be in the next update. gets smithing under my belt so I can say I can do one more thing I couldn't before.
Byobus will be a later addition as I've run into a few problems here and there.
Honestly, thank you for all the thought put into this post and I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I do have some surprises coming in the next update as well so keep a look out. Also forgot to mention I did add a more complex recipe for paper lanterns so that there's no need to have to download an additional mod but it also won't override the class specific recipes added by other mods.
EDIT: New tool being added to replace the saw: Nata Hatchet
just a random idea, not sure how feasible it is and it'd need a lot of work. but it'd be cool if shoji walls were modular and built in world.
would also allow nearly any possible variant while not cluttering the recipe book too horribly
for existing walls, to avoid version conflict those could be hidden from the recipe book and simply drop their component pieces when broken.
same could also be done for tatami mats (tatami middle/end base + tatami matting. so that the bases can match your walls) and byobus (divider frames, could connect to adjacent frames for modular length + byobu paintings inserted into each frame panel, could have fancy paintings from traders)
We've just hit 1400 downloads! You guys are truly amazing! Thank you so much <3
festivneer
I am planning to add some additional variants of course. Ebony is just the one that looked the prettiest to me and, as I believe I've said in another comment, I based the initial walls from some chiseled works of mine. So there's definitely room for additions.
I just also didn't want to make it so that the mod added 100+ variant blocks, though as I add more and more things that's inevitable.
TLDR: variants are coming for sure.
Side note: I was looking at some of the class mods that add recipes for Paper Lanterns and some people complaining its too easy, so I think I'll add in a harder non-class specific recipe.
problem: paper lanterns do not have a crafting recipe, making tōrō lanterns effectively unobtainable.
while a mod does exist for it, it'd probably be better to include one in the mod itself.
and a piece of feedback, walls panels need ebony wood which is supposed to be a rare exploration reward thats only available deep in the south.
not sure if thats intentional or not but it does seem rather expensive for walls, and pushes them very far into the game. maybe a few variants based on wood color for variety?
as for updates, i think as you do things is fine.
crumps
I just gotta reverse engineer how the cementation furnace and beehive kilns are done, at least if I want to add that drifter barrier
LilianaXolkiyroh yeah forgot to reply, but i think modular blocks would be the best! I would love to be able to build supermassive torii gates if possible. Could probably break the parts into the legs, flat gate piece, and the curved upper top? Whatever would work, and totally ok if its not doable. Appreciate your work!
One more thing—if you happen to catch me in the Vintage Story Discord, feel free to share screenshots of the mod! I’ll be using some to showcase it, since I’m not exactly a master of flattering screenshots myself.
Any screenshots shared with me this way will absolutely be credited to the original creator.
Also, I just want to say—I'm completely blown away by the response this mod has received. You all are the real MVPs here. Thank you so much!
xXx_Ape_xXx
I was planning on making a "half" pillar that just required you to saw a corner pillar in half.
I have a question for everyone. Should I only make updates when I add multiple items or would it be okay to make updates as I add each thing?
Love the mod so far, exited to see where you take it 😄
Funny coincidence that I was working on my Japanese stone lanterns at the same time 😅
Feedback on the corner pillar:
Could you make this be only 1 block tall?
It being 2 tall makes it difficult to fit in builds that are uneven number of blocks tall.
crumps
Torii gates are next up on the list for 0.8.6. Still debating if I want to make them a single block or if I want to make them expandable by turning them into pieces. What do you think?
In other news, I'm working on adding the zabuton cushions and some storage options.
Seconding Torii gates. Nothing would make me happier than being able to build shinto shrines and gates around the world for RP worship :)
JunidO
The Corner pillar pieces can actually be placed in a circular pattern to make a full pillar, unless you're talking about ones that have the top and bottom bits that spread out a slight bit.
metasynthie
I actually like a good portion of these, might throw up a poll to see if anyone else likes them as well as some of them might be a slight bit more technical. I had a lot of fun with the doors(partially sarcastic, partially sincere) and I know some of them would require a slight rework of the mechanics behind them.
The new blocks look fantastic!
If you want more suggestions I think the "rustic survival" vibe of Vintage story could use:
Obviously this is a lot but if you want ideas there are so many possibilities! Thank you for making this.
What about roofs and pillars?
Tetsune
It's been brought to my attention several times. I've taken to doing it myself so I know I won't have to reverse engineer a solution. Either way, thank you for the suggestion. I shouldn't be too much longer on the door honestly. It might even be ready the same time as the Byōbu.
If you're looking for help for the sliding door, there IS an old mod on here:
https://news.kalataka.ru/slidingdoors
Looking forward to using this mod!
SeveredSkullz The server is running 1.20.10 is the issue.

I am working on Shoji doors and a bunch of Japanese inspired furniture and cushions and even some various styles of Byōbu(the decorative painted dividers). And I'm always looking for suggestions.
This mod is a godsend with beautiful aesthetics, love how the tatamis look, and pairs so well with the japanese lanterns from Ape's lantern mod.
Really excited to see if there's any future plans to expand beyond shoji walls and tatami mats, like pagoda roofing, fusuma (or shoji) doors, etc.
Thranos
I'll be honest, I'm mostly using this as a stand in for the chiseled blocks that I'd based these off of, so I'm still trying to go between making it realisitic and going eith the costs of the original chiseled blocks. It's a tightrope, thats for sure.
I was under the impression that transluscent Shoji panels were generally paper, rather than glass?
Really cool mod regardless, will be keeping an eye on this. Traditional Japanese architecture avoiding load-bearing walls in favor of load-bearing posts and a ton of partitions was always something I found really neat.
Thank you LunaGore, I love the feedback I've been given. Honestly wasn't expecting this to hit off as well as it had.
New textures look great!
LilianaXolkiyr Maybe provide both versions for those who prefer one over the other? Kinda like when you press "F" to change the placement of slabs.
LunaGore Ohhhh, yeah thats my bad, I'm still thinking of it in terms of the chiseled version which you're kinda locked in. But yeah I see it now. If you think in terms of placing the frame pieces, vertical on the side pieces and the little vertical slats would be turned "sideways". I'll get to work on fixing that.
LilianaXolkiyr They mean the way the grain of the wood is going left to right vs up and down, you can see an example in your first screenshot.

It's in the works honestly, I just have to code in the sliding door mechanics and to be frank, my only other mod before this was a handbook mod, so I'm jumping outside my comfort zone. It is in the works though as I have a QPChisels version that already has both open and close states and the animation is there, as is the block itself. Just look for Shoji Door Panel in creative. Just a static block atm but it has a future.

Not entirely sure whatcha mean, I'm in the VS discord so if you tag me with a screenshot of whatcha mean, I'll look into it.
It looks great, but why does it have a horizontal plank texture and not a vertical texture?
Please add a sliding door and my life is yours.
Such a great looking mod, finally i can do my asian inspired mansion.
