What?
This adds a new chisel that can be knapped with most tool stones aside from obsidian. Preserving balancing, these stone chisels can only be used for chiseling blocks and a handful of recipes involving wood, namely figureheads for boats and the fruitpress. I have intentionally excluded mechanical blocks (windmills, etc) and stone related recipes with the stone chisels. These chisels are also rather short-lived, with only 80 durability for most stones and 95 for flint compared to the copper's 600.
It also makes the wooden club usable in the off-hand as a hammer for chisels, but not much else. No smithing capabilities nor ore smashing abilities were added, so it's the same old club, but with an additional function assisting chiseling.
Why?
While Early Chiseling is a great mod, I am developing a rather large mod that I wanted to include my own set primarily for crafting purposes. This is just a standalone version from that I decided to share.
In comparison to Early Chiseling, I added a new model for the stone chisels, utilize the wooden club instead of adding a new wooden hammer, and maybe some other minor difference (I haven't used the mod myself).
Compatiblity
Should be widely compatible with nearly any mod. The chisels are a new standalone item and the club is patched with 2 lines.
Likewise, it should be fairly VS update-proof as long as no major changes come for the club (new material types) or the chisels broadly.
If you feel there are any odd interactions with other mods in conjunction with this that could be addressed, let me know.
Notes
The club may look odd in third person and to others when used with the chiseling animation because the player model moves their hand up the handle. Best solution would be a new model for the club, as there is no specific transforming for this animation that I am aware of.

Corrected folder structure so the patch for the club will work. | |||||||
i mean in that situation with the flint chisel working better than bronze for cutting limestone is probably because bronze is is still pretty soft and probably compresses the limestone instead of splitting it (unlike a flint chisel which is brittle but very hard, since both come hand in hand with each other)

Noted and Corrected. Thanks for the spot.
There appears to be typo on the .zip name for the latest upload. It says it's still v1.0.1, despite containing files for 1.0.2. Been really enjoying the mod, BTW!

I personally cant say for sure how well flint would perform as a chisel or other tool, especially compared to other stones, as I've never handled it in real life before. Though from what research I have done, there are several real examples of flint chisels in different forms, so it could certainly stand up to some use if they exist, especially if used with a wooden blunt instrument rather than a hammerstone. While not referencing durablity, this interesting article even suggests that a flint chisel (with wooden handle) can out-perform bronze chisels in the case of cutting limestone for a stelae: www.archaeoresearch.co.uk.
For now, the durablity for flint is simply to align it with vanilla values. If you want to adjust it yourself, you are welcome to open the mod up, find and extract the "chisel-stone" json file under "assets>jackschisels>itemtypes>tools", and change the durability value for "chiselstone-flint" and add the edited file back into the mod file. If you even want to remove flint chisels from being craftable/knappable normally, find "flint-chisel" under "assets>jackschisels>recipes>knapping" and delete it.
i don't feel like the flint chisel should have more durability, irl flint is more brittle than other stones (which is why it was using in knapping since its easier to knap), just like obsidian, so it might even make sense to make it unable to make chisels but that would make the stone chisels impossible to make in regions with only sedimentary rock

Done-zo. It will look a little odd as far as the animation go since CO makes the club a very long weapon, but is otherwise functional.
Really cool mod. It would be really cool if you cold make it compatible with combat overhaul cuz it does remove vanila club.
I just can't keep up with all the project I've right now.
VS Launcher/Rustory and VSDS take most of my free time and I can't keep working on Underground Mines and Early Chiseling so... it's really nice to have this mod here.

It's up to you if you want to amend your description to mention this mod. Though personally, I wouldn't say my mod is any better or worse than yours, they both approach the same subject in different ways, and it can be offered as an alternative to better suit a player's taste.
Do you mind if I post a link to your mon on Early Chiseling description? This mod is 1000 times better so... I'll probably abandon Early Chiseling and send people to this mod if you don't mind ❤️ JackRob
@Blight < (Odd, your username doesn't come up in this function)
I am sure this is possible if I were to copy and edit a new code behavior for chiseling. Personally, if I had to change the chiseling behavior for stone chisels, I would make them only chisel wood blocks.
What if the primitive chisel wouldn't have the smallest resolution, and only be able to chisel out 2x2 voxels and higher? Or is this not something a mod could change?
JackRob Thanks! It works perfectly now :)

Sorry, it seems like I forgot a subfolder for the club patch to work. Should be assets>game>patches>club-hammer.json. Right now it's assets>game>club-hammer.json.
EDIT: Correction uploaded. Should work now.
I can't offhand the wooden club so I am unable to use the flint chisel.
Great mod , I was hoping for something like this ! I'll be sure to test it
