FreedomUnits-1.1.4.zip
1-click install
Freedom Units features:
- Converts Celsius to Fahrenheit. That's it.
- Includes all temperature readouts everywhere*, even from other mods**!
- No confusing options, configurations, or GUIs. It just works.
- Made in America! f*@k yeah!
This is a client-only mod, but it can be installed on the server to force connecting clients to download it.
Since this is asked quite a lot: If you want to toggle Celsius back just uninstall the mod.
Enjoy! \o/
* except for the main/title/create world screen - mods only load when the world is loaded
** mods must output temps in a known format in order for this mod to catch them

really like this mod, but I do have 2 main questions.
AMERICA WINS AGAIN!
Sunconure11 that doesn't really make sense. Why would you install this mod if you dont plan to use it? Just don't install it. Or, if you really feel the need, just enable/disable it in your client's Mod Manager menu.
Have you considered the idea of allowing users to switch back and forth between units of measure? Could make it useful for users who may not understand metric, and yet at the same time, allow users who do to not be affected by this mod.

You love to see such a classy mod
Hell yeah
Top mod in the database
Im not even american i just think its fun to be exposed to new things. I set most my games to languages I cant understand. People need to live a little.
Why is this the most controversial mod on the entire database? Its literally just localization for people who perfer a different type of measurement its NOT THAT DEEP
Wow none of y'all can be normal huh.
Anyway thanks for the simple change! Celcius is fine generally, but I grew up with Fahrenheit and it's easier to immerse myself when I don't have to think about number conversions to figure out what it would feel like outside. A+
I really hope this mod is deleted/depreciated and the USA players are all simply unable to comprehend distances and tempretures for the rest of the game.
Oml this is so helpful. It's so much easier now to get an idea of how the temp feels in-game when it's on the ~0 - ~100 scale of human survivable extremes lol, and the 50 degree brisk middling neutral spot to use as a benchmark for stuff like "can this crop survive the freezing autumn season's nights (below ~50)?" or "does this crop need borderline tropical weather 24/7 (above ~50)?". Genuine godsend.
The outside temperature is converting to Fahrenheit, but the body temperature isn't?
It's disturbing how much hatred and vitriol a simple accessibility mod draws. None of you had to click this mod, that perfectly converts aloof numbers into something readable to the human eye, but here you are actively trying to fight people in the comments.
lmao smh
Yea that was my conclusion as well, I'll keep workin on him
FatherSarge You are correct. The readout is just raw numbers without valid temperature units. Thats why FreedomUnits doesn't see and convert it. Can't just be converting raw numbers all willy nilly ^_^
I was looking at how I could catch it on my end, but I am not coming up with anything. I think the easiest option would be to request the developer of that mod to add a Fahrenheit toggle or add units that mark the values as Celsius temps.
BillyGalbreath
One mod has evaded Freedom!
https://news.kalataka.ru/airthermomod
FreedomUnits doesn't pick it up (It's just numbers and doesn't put C in the readings which I guess is the issue)
Any chance a compat is possible? It's a pretty cool mod and while I don't mind doing a manual conversion once in awhile, others on the server are more annoyed by it lol
USA USA USA USA
Nymue Please behave yourself. If you want to talk or insinuate anything politics related. Please do it outside of ModDB.
fahrenheit is war crime.
yall get real feisty over units of measurement huh
WHAT THE FUCK IS KILOMETER!!!!!!! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Mr_Sim
Sorry. Can't hear you over the sound of bald eagles flying over and blessing me with the freedom to not care about your opinion after you called me delusional.
traugdor You're right to download this mod if you prefer F over C.
But don't say that a unit using suggestive measures such as “coat weather cold,” “bikini in the pool hot” and “midly cold” is objectively better than a unit using two straightforward and objective measures: “ice water at sea level” (0C) and “boiling water at sea level” (100C).
You don't have to be delusional to prefer the unit of measurement you grew up with.
Have this mod, but lately it's been inconsistent.. ambient temp in F but ovens and body temp in C, sometimes it works soemtimes it doesnt..
The fact that there are raccoons means this is in America anyways. It's only proper.
do you think you could also convert the 24h clock to a 12h AM/PM clock?
Is it possible to make it rounded instead of using decimals? Would look a little cleaner
Thankyou........going to use it now........makes so much more sence as C can be like nearly 3 degrees difference in the real world for temps where F is used.
SuperCrock
I used to include that information in the description above, but recently removed it (and other implied things) for brevity. I have added that information back to the description since it's not as apparent as I believe it to be. Sorry about that.
But to answer your question, yes it converts all temperature readouts from everywhere in the game that were sent to the screen using Vintage Story's API while the mod is loaded. This includes text from other mods as well. Even player chat (if they type it in the format the mod is expecting). It simply checks the text being sent to the screen for anything that looks like a Celcius readout and converts it to Fahrenheit. The mod even knows the difference between real and delta temperatures. Like, 3C outside (37.4F) is different than +3C from warm clothing (+5.4F).
I think I covered all the bases now ^_^ If you want to know anything else, just ask.
What I meant was, does it change ALL conversions for anything C related to F.........I mean if I look at a seed, it tells me a C range........same with fire, coals, etc........does it change everything or just the character temp screen?
I dont see any screenshots so I dont know if it changes all or just part of the conversion.
WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
SuperCrock It just scans and replaces all text readouts sent to the screen. No actual values are changed or stored anywhere.
Does it change descriptions of growing temps for seeds etc or just the readout the character sees.
Is this mod compatible with version 1.21.1? If so, may want to update that in the compatible list.
Great mod. Great comment thread.
Jankiel objectively false
but it also does depend on what you're measuring. Water? sure use celsius if you want, but F is more precise because of the wider range of values. Metal? All smithing is measured in F first, for example, 2500F for the temperature of a block of steel, but you can use C if you want to sound pretentious I guess. Air? F is perfect for air! 0F is coat weather cold. 100F is bikini in the pool hot. 0C is mildly cold. 100C is beyond the range of human capability. You wanna try K instead? 0k = you froze to death. 100k = you still froze to death.
I mean I really can't see why anyone would think C is better.
This was working, I've not added or removed any mods and the only thing showing F is the clock HUD mod. I've removed and re-added and still not working. (EDIT) and now it's back...
I came here only to say metric system is better ;)
BillyGalbreath when I remove the mod it still turns C into F, how to i return this to normal?
This is the first, and so far only, mod I've downloaded. It really should just be a toggle in the menus. There is a (pretty convincing) argument that metric is a better measurement system than imperial, but Celsius vs Fahrenheit really is a matter of what you're used to. Thanks for this.
handy mod
@zontreck
Look the mod maker leans into a joke while advertising itself. Just like some metric users out there tease about the superiority of the metric system or about the more enlightened nature of European systems, cultures, or practices. We all tease each other a little and poke fun and thats ok, the mod maker didn’t even say anything to degrade any other country he just comically expressed love of his own and of Fahrenheit. Thats not disgusting its just life.
The base game for VS uses celsius exclusively. In the US we use the US customary system (a descendent of the British imperial system), but we are also all taught the metric system. We recognize the merits of the metric system especially in things like meters (note every block in this game is 1 meter squared and no one minds) but for temperature most in the US prefer Fahrenheit. Both systems have pros and cons but here in the US we like that Fahrenheit gives a good deal of precision for different temps in comfortable temperature ranges with only two digits while in celsius theres more noticeable change in temperature within one degree in celsius than in Fahrenheit leading to decimal use for precision. Again theres pros and cons and for Americans it can be nice to convert temps to the same units we use every day.
If you like Celsius great just use the vanilla system, that is the default for everyone but don’t be offended if someone wants to swap to what they are familiar with. If this was a translation mod for a language no one would bat an eye, just think of it that way.
Also adding ui elements to swap between would be more work for the modder and for what? If you like celsius you dont want or need this mod, if you dont then you just need the conversion.
Thanks heavens. I have no issues with the metric system, but I'll be cold and in the ground before I ever use celsius.
10/10 mod much appricated.
JaceAurelius, there's nothing I can do about that, sadly. It was a design choice by Anego Studios.
The reason it happens is the meta file correctly has 1.18.8 as the minimum version the mod works on. However, the game itself incorrectly treats it as a definitive version, not a minimum. If I was to put 1.21.0 the warning would go away, but 1.18.8 - 1.20.12 would not be able to use the mod anymore.
Tell me your are american without telling me you are.
Funniest thumbnail, but i really doubt the usefullness of the conversion from comprehensive celsius to fucking shennannigans imperials system.
FatherSarge F is good for a lot of things, but science -even in the US- still occilates between F and C and K, depending on the computations needed. Some are more exact than others, but no unit by itself is superior to the other :3 That's what I was getting at with my comment to zontreck. Metric, Imperial - doesn't matter, they all have uses and purposes in the scientific --and cullinary-- world.
JaceAurelius
Yea don't rely on the triangle, mod works 100% up to(perhaps beyond) 1.21 stable
zontreck
Be disgusted all you want homie, F is far superior to C, always was, always will be. Sry wherever you are from isn't the global hegemon and in charge of the world 😇
Oddly, says mod is oudated in modlist but I've the latest version? O.o
Also, zontreck, dude, chill out. Mod Author says he built this mod for themselves and their family. So you don't like how something is said? Contact the "I'm Too Sensitive" department. There is no option in base game to change from C to F. I myself prefer F over C, so I use this mod. If you don't, then why bother commenting with hate?
Tbh, most retarded thumbnail and mod title of the database, tbh. XP
Earthly Does it work for you? mine says its still asking for the last update
so my comment was apparently deleted by the author: The mod is disgusting. Fahrenheit is not the only unit of measurement, and to pretend like it is, is just gross. The USA is not the only country in the world. Other units of measurement exist. I would not mind it so much if it just added a option to use one or the other, as i would be in favor of base game doing.
SirTrix ACKSHUALLY
The USA does use metric to measure...
Already updated to 1.21.
Patriot
I swear this mod has the best thumbnail on the database. It makes me smile every time I see it! :D
O beautiful, for Farenheit.
OfficialSassyB Slap a "Made in the USA" sticker on them, should fix the problem. :D
I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but when looking at my seed packets, they still show "heat resistant until __*C / cold resistant until __*C"
I was wondering if that is going to be patched soon or is that just a me problem?
Dear god, it's soo beautiful.🗽
I'mma add this to my gameplay, it took me and my friend a while to realize that it was, infact pretty hot out, and that maybe that was why the turnips were dying. lo and behold it was 86F out, no wonder they were dying :p
Still continuing to appreciate this mod. 🦅🗽

-I made this flag-
Thank you for this mod! I do not understand Celcius and I do not wat to translate it while I am in the game. I feel like this unit of gauge works for me personally so I do prefer the imperial measurement!
AKA. Add this function in base game because not everyone wants to learn a foreign unit of measurement.
Lephasme1000III
Pilzpott
This thread was just folks joking around, having a good time - then y’all rolled in like the Buzz Killington International Committee on Units of Measurement.
Yeah, we use freedom units. You know... the ones that won two world wars, landed a dune buggy on the Moon, and somehow made ranch dressing a national sauce. fahrenheit is way more precise for everyday weather. Its scale breaks down human-relevant temperatures more clearly:
0–100°F covers pretty much all livable outdoor conditions..
Celsius is water-centric. Fahrenheit is human-centric it’s literally tuned to the range of temperatures we live in.
Dont get me started on you saying Kelvin over Fahrenheit either there Pillpopper. Either you are playing that like no one will check you or you googled measurements and thought "ME SAY WORD THAN CORRECT PERSON SO ME SOUND SMART!!!!11"
"It’s 10°F out" tells you to put on a damn jacket. "It’s 260 K" tells you nothing unless you're at CERN.
So yeah, we use inches, pounds, and degrees that don’t always make the most sense.
But we also built the internet you're talking out the side of ya mouth on, sent a Tesla to space for the memes, and eat bacon-wrapped Ranch and imitation cheese infused hot dogs while doing it.
Fahrenheit isn’t just a unit. It’s a lifestyle.
God bless 'Murica and all 12 inches of our rulers.
BillyGalbreath
Sorry about all that bud! Great MOD! You are the truest of American's.
Lephasme1000III ... you don't have to download the mod if you don't like it. It's not like you're being forced to use F over C.
Pilzpott We aren't scentists in this game. We're people experiencing atmospheric conditions. Which is what Fahrenheit was made for. Kelvin is a level of precision only useful to scientists. Celcius is fine-tuned to the temperature of water which is not what's being measured in this game. Yes there's also the forge temperatures but that's not one you see all the time. You use the appropriate units in the appropriate context.
jacobems
Don't use words like objectively if this isn't the case and consent in the international scientific community and if you really want to be precise, you would use Kelvin instead of Fahrenheit.
Lephasme1000III
Fine you want dry facts not sarcasm? Celsius is for water not air. It makes less sense to use it when you're evaluating air temperature. Fahrenheit is more precise and tuned to the most common 130° range of environmental conditions on Earth. The metric system is superior in nearly every way to imperial measurements EXCEPT when it comes to Celsius which is objectively worse for this application. You're also just bringing up irrelevant nonsense.
Wow guys, looks like Lephasme is a party pooper
Merica Hell yeah
WaterDayMyDudes
Yes, and the kind of sarcasm made by people from your country is quite horrible to hear to be honest, please stop it.
Beside, in a way, using a flawed system of measurement can also cause many issues,
For example I recall a case where a satelite had its rocket explode mid flight because one of the subcompany of Nasa used imperial units instead of metric one, leading to a convertion error regarding the ammount of thrust the engine had to pull off and making it go boom.
You're actually burning your tax payer money by using the "freedom unit" when it could be avoided. Hell, there is litteral article about the accident in question https://www.simscale.com/blog/nasa-mars-climate-orbiter-metric/
Post-Scriptum: there is also a far more hardcore example: it could led to the US accidentally nuke itself because what happened to the Nasa's rocket could probably also happen to actual nuclear ICBM, and to be honest, that is the last thing the people from my country would like to hear.
The US is so close to greatness, yet it is still held back from its real potential because the Union is using an archaic system of measurement with units who are flawed by nature, Feets, toes and inch, from human to human, vary in scale and there while sadly never be one that you could see as the ones of reference. Also fahrenheit is dumb, why the hell did it start at 20° instead of 0°????
Lephasme1000III
Ever heard of... Sarcasm?
sorry to say it but the "freedom unit" like you love calling it is the favourite measure system of darth sidious, while the metric system a.k.a "The true freedom unit" was invented as a result of the french revolution and the end of the "ancient regime" (In others words the event in question brought down the absolut monarchy that ruled over the country for a little bit more than a century). Beside, forcing people to convert to an extremly flawed system that rely on the metric system in order to not fall into pure insanity is quite the nightmare...
YES. Thank you so much for updating. :D I'm still confused why they won't just add the toggle to the game for the 400 million (yes really) people whose country uses Imperial?? And the clock. It's just basic math ADD THE TOGGLE VINTAGE STORY!!
Red Tailed Hawk sound effects (since it's always mistaken for the eagle lol)
Just started playing Vintage Story a month ago and to see a "Made in America" Mod brings me lots of joy.. A Salute to you.. Thanks for bringing your work into VS..
I love the mod; now I can tell if it's actually cold or not. Would you consider adding a 12-hour clock as well and get rid of the European 24-hour clock? I hate having to constantly subtract 12 hours from the time to figure out what time of the evening it really is. It's America time all the time!
OOOOOOOOOOOOORAH MARINES
WHAT THE #$*% IS A CENTIGRADEEEEEEEEEE!!?!?
Thank you for this.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Still working in 1.20.12 🦅
I finally found it, thank god!
Bless you, kind sir!
Will we be able to get volume conversions at some point (e.g. from L to gal)?
FU = Freedom Units
Love this mod. Great Job. Only thing I have noticed is the tool tips for things with a burn temp are still in Celsius. I haven't looked at everything in the game but Charcoal, Peat, and Firewood still show C temp in the tool tip
Glad you figured it out Umberman \o/
I think you might be confused about how the modinfo.json works, Kathanon
The values (including the unspecified defaults) are set to:
"side": "Universal",
"requiredOnClient": true,
"requiredOnServer": false,
This allows the server to tell clients to install the mod, while also allowing clients to use it on servers that do not have it installed. This is the intended behavior for the majority of installs.
If I make your suggested change then servers will not load the mod at all, thus unable to tell connecting clients to install it. This is not the intended behavior for the majority.
If you don't want your server to tell connecting clients to install the mod, then don't install the mod on your server.
If you are in the unique situation where you are hosting a server from your single player setup, then you will be required to modify the modinfo.json to handle your unique setup. Unfortunately I cannot handle this scenario and the intended one for the majority at the same time, so I picked the majority. Sorry.
BillyGalbreath It's your mod. We'll just continue using a modified version that doesn't force it on everyone joining a multiplayer game.
Umberman If you are using a dedicated server, then you'll need to look in VintagestoryData\ModsByServer for the mods used when playing on the server.
@BillyGalbreath Figured out the problem, despite both me and the host uninstalling the mod, inside the "Mods By Server" folder was still a freedom units file, which was causing it to still display for me.
What is currently in modinfo.json is what I intended Kathanon
Impossible. This mod literally changes nothing in the game. It only alters text right before it's being rendered on screen Umberman
IDK if this is the exact cause but I uninstalled the mod after using it in a world to test something and now after uninstalling all my temps are in F, even after deleting the mod. I tried to reinstall and then delete but it seems like it was half converting somethings and not others. if you could figure out what's up with that, that'd be cool
It looks like you intended this mod to be client-side only. If you add the following line to modinfo.json, then the game won't consider it when syncing mods with the server:
"side": "Client",
TheGecko
I removed the mod then added it back in and had thought that had fixed it... but now I'm thinking I must have messed with the window settings. Will keep this in mind when it happens again! Thank you!
Junrall
I had the same issue with that as well. Try changing your window settings to something else and then setting it back to what it was. worked for me, no clue why.
you are a god damn patriot
BillyGalbreath
In the stats window the body temprature is showing celcius. I'm on version 1.20.3
Also, VS thinks the mod is for version 1.18.8
No errors in logs.
Thanks!
An issue I've noticed with the mod, is that it seems to change the chat as well. If you type "15 deg F" or similar in the chat, it runs the conversion again, turning it into "59°F F"
Murica
The mod doesn't seem to be working. This is the only mod I have and it is a fresh instal. Only just got the game. So it's not a mod conflict.
thanks for doing your civic duty by releasing this mod, my freedom senses are tingling.
🇺🇸✔️🇺🇸 THIS MOD HAS BEEN FACT CHECKED BY REAL AMERICAN PATRIOTS 🇺🇸✔️🇺🇸
Freedom is the only way, Yeah!
does this affect the forge and cooking temps too or just weather temps?
Or, you know, The Cayman Islands, Liberia, Palau, The Federated States of Micronesia, or The Marshall Islands.
A truly patriotic mod! If you don't use this mod, you aren't American.
i love this mod
I've greatly enjoyed this mod having used it thus far, I'm hoping someone will make a mod with a proper AM / PM time format too.
Beauteous, exactly what I've needed
I love stoves. You have brought to life my dreams of understanding the actual temperature of a stove using Fahrenheit, rather than dirty old Celsius. My thanks to you, and God bless America.
thank god measurements for normal people
Astebrooke, ah yes. The client "warning" for outdated mods. I've warned the devs against it's wording, but I feel my words have fallen on deaf ears. Best to just ignore the client, tbh. Especially when you've done your due diligence and understand the actual context of the situation better than the game does ;)
Astebrooke Ignore triangle
Apparently it's a confusion between this site and the game. The link on this site says it's for game version 1.19, but in game it throws a caution sign saying the mod is looking for version 1.18. It works fine, just the game being wary.
I think you are confused, Astebrooke. What do you mean when you say "1.18 version"?
I never released a version labeled "1.18" or even "1.19" for that matter. All 4 of the versions I've released for this mod (1.1.0, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and 1.1.3) are all for Vintage Story 1.18.8 and higher (this "higher" means 1.19.x, too)
Download says 1.19, but downloads 1.18 version. Both manual and quick-install. Q-I link does say it's the 1.18 version if you hover.
That's got too much freedom.. Calm down Mackeroni
Mackeroni oh man, great suggestion. Im cry laughing over here.
Change liters to hogsheads, you coward.

It is safe. I did not re-upload the file. I just edited the entry to the last upload. That's why it doesnt have 1.19 in the versions list of the downloaded file. But I have tested it and it does indeed work as advertised ^_^
Apologies if this is a silly comment, as I don't know the ins and outs of Vintage Story modding, but I'm still getting the warning that this mod is requesting version 1.18.8 despite the tags in the files tab saying it supports 1.19.0. Is there something I'm missing, or is it safe to play with this?
Thanks in advance!

Thank you, still am guessing at world creation; but it seems to be working otherwise :)
Appreciated!

Can you also make 'Science units' mod and convert all the temperatures into kelvin, "the only scientific measurement for temperatures"?
Thanks for the info i appreciate it
HostilHobbit

That happens with Extra Info even without this mod installed:
Hey, little bug i noticed is that using this with extra info and looking at a pile of iron bars makes the first temperature reading to save the command for the font color for no reason.
True heroes wear the American flag as a cape, thank you. You're a hero
Finally, real representation in Vintage Story.

You need to get yourself a swimming pool for that kind of heat. One at least 6 or 7 washing machines big.
My friend said it is 105 bald eagles outside where we live, though tbf we only live a few hundred hamburgers away.
Ah yes, a converter for old English Imperial units for Americans who dont know the French Metric system :P
You are a real American hero
