Flickering Lights
MERGED WITH IMMERSIVE LANTERNS
This mod aims to make dynamic lighting more immersive and organic by adding a 'flicker' effect to it
To simulate candle and torch flames!
To customize light flickering use the L menu (key by default).
This is a feature I had made sometime ago and was planning to add to either Immersive Mining or Cave Symphony
but decided to make as a standalone mod instead.
The sounds you hear in the video are from Forest Symphony.
Note that this mod only affects DYNAMIC LIGHTING. Why not add the same effect to placed blocks?
Those have light baked in the chunk data, so not the best idea to toy with.

Is it me or did the flickering settings change? like it went from being like realistic to just straight seizure worthy🙏. and whenever i try and change the settings the speed does nothing only the intensity changes.
The mod is great, I like the immersion and atmosphere it provides, but the flickering is completely visually tiring. I set it to 1000ms and it's still super heavy. Thank you.

you can tweak to wathever you feel better with! ^^
Yeah the flickering-flashing should be lowered by like 1000% or something - it's not a pleasant experience
Cool idea but flickering is bit too frequent and strong, even if I tune its mix/max. Feels bad for eyes. Especially on torches.
I like this a lot but sadly because of how much less light everything provides I can't use it. I'm a megastructure builder by heart and I just hate being constrained to small cottages and rooms because of the need for light. This is sadly not sustainable for me, as the lanterns I would have to make go astoundingly up in number. I would love if the mod only added the visual of the light flickering and changed nothing else about the radius, brightness and spawn prevention rate. It was very fun to use.

Or updated too!
Try using the campfire! light changes as well..
side effect of the mod that I can't get rid of.
The settings for min/max brightness appear to affect lights when placed as well, which can reduce the numbers of tiles they prevent spawns in. Tested with Spawn Hightlights. Setting brightness to widest range and cycle speed to consistent for reliable testing, placing a lantern down on different parts of the cycle changes the spawnproofing area until the light is re-placed.

In my mods I embedded some dll libs into my own mod dlls!
The dev TheInsanityGod approached me and told me this was causing some mod conflicts and crashes due to those embedded dlls being from the older version.
I had to and will from now on stop doing that and use the libs available from the game itself instead!😆
What does the "removed embeded dlls" mean?
Didnt even noticed lover light levels. Was to busy thinking why there is bunch of monsters spawning in my house :)
Question, does this mod have a way to turn up the brightness. all of my lamps and light sources have defaulted to 11 to 15 lumens, when a lined lantern should be, at least, a twenty.
@saltywater Does this mod affect all light sources or only certain ones (i.e. candles/torches?)
SaltyWater Oops... XD

You are using the mod for the wrong version! :p
Hitting L crashes my game to desktop.when this mod is enabled. I'm not seeing anyone else saying the same thing so maybe it's a mod conflict? The crash log says something about:

EnderMelody Yeah I noticed this too
does the offical server hosting support these mods?
This is really cool and beautiful! Noting for the vast minority as myself who endure photosensitivity related afflictions, if for some reason it was ever pushed to base game a toggle to disable is suggested. Police lights, temporal storms, roller coaster video, any quickly changing colors or switches to white, certain flickering light effects, when a line of artificially planted trees on the side of the highway create harsh repeating shadows on the road.. It sucks to have it, but as a dev and modder myself I am fortunate to be able to be an early detection system for some! :D
Does the flickering effect all handheld light sources? Looks really immersive, but I don't want as intense of flickering with stuff like lanterns or any flickering at all with items like temporal gears (coming 1.21).
im not sure if its a mod conflict though i doubt it, but when you cause a lighting update to a chunk through something like placing/breaking a block it causes blocklight to get updated for 1 tick as if it is effected by this mod. so if you have something like a torch placed and you mine next to it every time you break a block the light output of the torch changes. dont know how fixable this.

Yep! this is why i choose this specific video clip! ^^

You guys just wait! I have an entire notepad full of absurd ideas! This is a threat!

I'll update with some customization configs!!

LMAO thanks!! 🤣
I'm getting to the point where I don't even read the mod discription anymore. If it's a Salty mod it just gets installed.
You've done it again
Oh, wow, that has a much bigger effect on mood that I expected! Thank you!
@DecaByte I think the speed is perfect! It's very true to real life flame flickering and makes it much more immerseive. It may seem fast in the video because your focus is on it but in the game as in real life, it fades to the background and becomes normal :)
This is a great idea! From watching the vid, do you think it flicker effect is a bit too fast? I think if this was slowed to half or more it would look better. Also do you think an epilepsy warning is needed cause of the flicker light?

Thanks guys! ^^
All of your mods are a must-have, all together they make the VS experience so much more immersive, love it! Keep up the amazing work.
Now this is hot. Thanks again for the awesome mods salty!
