IMPORTANT NOTE:

This is a WIP (Work in Progress) compatibility patch that changes little to nothing about the base mods (i.e., Feverstone Wilds, Butchering). Some drops will be added/tweaked for butchering of Feverstone Wilds animals only. I will not be fixing or updating broken functionality within the base versions of the required mods. For example, Feverstone Wild's Bison are currently crashing game clients in 1.20.12 and I will not be adjusting anything to correct that in this mod; however, I plan to add bison drop functionality, so if the crashes are ever fixed they should start working with butchering.

 

This mod is currently being created using the following game/mod versions (as of 8/16/2025):

  • Vintage Story 1.20.12
  • Feverstone Wilds 1.5.0-rc.2
  • Butchering 1.9.1

 

 

If you are wondering why some animals' butchering models are the same or look a bit weird anatomically (like the Orca), I'm just using butchering's built-in "generic" corpses. I added fish-like textures for the water creatures, but am otherwise leveraging existing models and textures.

 

Version History:
  • Versions 0.8.x (IN PROGRESS)
    • Tweaked values for all Feverstone Wilds Animals regarding: size, mass, bloodamount (carrying 4 giraffes will now slow you down quite a bit)
    • Tweaked wet sinew drop for direwolves to match butchering's value for vanilla wolves
  • Versions 0.7.x (COMPLETE 8/20/2025)
    • Added Bison functionality
      • Note: Spawning bison crashes the game in Feverstone Wilds 1.5.0-rc.2 and Vintage Story 1.20.12
      • This is a "futureproofing" patch for if/when Bison crashing is fixed
  • Versions 0.6.x (COMPLETE 8/20/2025)
    • Added Faunling functionality
    • Reverted the red meat drops from Adult Direwolf and Adult Hellboar that were added in 0.2.x (didn't make sense in retrospect)

Future Plans:

    • Planned: Complete a somewhat finalized set of tweaks to put mod in longer-term testing/bug scrubbing
      • Notable items to revisit for each animal: size, mass, bloodamount, workload, animal drops, drop amounts
      • General items to revist: Placing animals on ground, carcass rot functionality, item names, visual modifications
  • Versions 1.0.x
    • Planned: Final round of polish, balance, and tweaks based on gameplay and testing

 

 

Ideas for further mod improvements after 1.0.x release:

  • Add a config file for enabling/disabling butchering for specific creatures.
  • Add Feverstone Horses functionality (a mod separate from Feverstone Wilds)
  • Include other Feverstone Wilds creatures that are a bit weirder for butchering (e.g., Golems)
  • Include other Feverstone Wilds creatures that are not fully implemented but have entity JSONs available (e.g. toad), to futureproof this compatibility mod
  • Add custom visuals for each butchering stage of Feverstone Wilds creatures
  • Consider adding different blood types and states for creatures, like poisonous cockatrice blood or tainted fish blood (from stingray/shark)

Verlia If you're willing to, that'd be great! It would make the compat much more genuine. No pressure though, all the work y'all have done on the original is great!

Sianks Smokefairydust Feverstone Wilds works partially in 1.20.12, but Bison do still crash the game, as do some of the other critters (like donkeys). I've been running Feverstone Wilds on a couple 1.20.12 private servers (only 2-3 players) for a couple months now and haven't had any negative effects as of yet, but we've also not seen any spawns for animals that are known to crash the client.

This is great stuff! Since it's likely not going to be in FS Wild's mod for compat. I'd be happy to send some models/textures for each of the creatures if you're open to it?
