Mendall Kawakji  I use the patched version of the full mod, so I'll tell you that no, it doesn't allow you to use it as a crafting knife. However, what it does do is performs actions far faster than the knife can. You can use it for carving enemies, which it will do in, probably, 3x the speed, so you don't have to sit waiting to get smacked by a bowtorn for too long while collecting loot. It is also great for gathering dry grass as the sycthe is honestly the worst tool and needs to be reworked as it is wonky as hell. (though you can animation cancel it by opening your inventory the moment it clips the grass)

It has great durability for the cost of ingots, you get 2 per ingot, though if you are using them to mow your lawn they will run dry on durability very fast. They also work with mods like Butcher's mod where you have to use a knife to clean the carcass while its on a hook. Normally very slow, but the bush knife makes it super quick. I also use it to harvest crops on farmland, it breaks them instantly, so you can get through your field fast, replant and move on with your day.

Oh and as the name suggests, it cuts through bushes, and even better, tree branches and leaves when you are going through a thick forest incredibly quickly. Makes traveling by elk through them less horrible.

So if you want to craft, you need a default knife, but for everything else the bush knife completely outshines knives in every way.

Edit: Didn't read Whiskey's description before replying. Since I use the weapon pack, I can say that "absurdly fast" is a good descriptor, so both are worth trying to find which speed you prefer. The weapons from the original mod are also really awesome and worth checking out on their own even. They are slightly stronger than base game weapons, but there is a nice variety to try.

So does this thing work for all the uses that a regular knife does?
