@Luxviere  you have to open your %appdata% folder, vintage story data & mod config I believe to adjust the petai settings.  Look at the PetAI page for further explanation of what everything is.

I am having the same issue as SparrowOfRealms, my son & I can't feed the bears anything but berries & honey. And they have been randomly despawning after we have tamed them... which is very upsetting for him.

Also the taming guide in the handbook mentions armor & backpacks, but we couldn't find how to craft any of that stuff... is that something that is in the works & hasn't been implemented yet?

Is this mod going to be updated now that petai has? Admittedly been encountering a few bugs like being unable to feed them anything but berries or honey and now that I've finally tamed them they're still trying to kill me

so ive run into a pickle where once the bear is tamed i cant actually feed it, i just pet it instead. am i just being stupid or is this a bug of some kind.

MadameJojo it might be incompatible. I haven't tried it with detailed animals, yet. (I wasn't aware that mod exists) if you feed it frequently you should be able to tame a bear in a couple of days. So it seems like they do things differently.

Edit: I read into the mod page of Detailed Animals, and it states itself that "You can tame any animal by feeding it" so with the current state of my mod you don't actually need my mod and can uninstall it.

Hiya! Is this mod not compatible with detailed animals? We can't tame a bear. We've been feeding it for a month now and it's still not tamed. Are we missing something ?  Is it incompatibility?

snailglow if you update from 1.20 there is sadly no way to get your bear back. The base game refactored bears so I had to redo mine as well.

RedRockG thanks for the report. I don't use insects rn so It doesn't compromise your game it just looks ugly I admit.

snailglow Did you update from 1.21.* to 1.21.4? or did you update from a previous Version of the game e.g. 1.20.*? if you update from an older version of the game a lot has changed and there was no way to recover the bears. If you update from a newer version it should've worked. I try to reproduce.

Hi, I noticed after updating all of my mods and my game to 1.21.4, my tamed bears have disappeared.

Runovaris what do you mean with biggest size? With "all greater bears" I mean the big bear species so not "red panda" (not in the game at all) and "raccoon" for example. 

Is there still a requirement for the bears to be the biggest size they can spawn as? Cause there's no in-game way of seeing that information atm.

Nyxara yes I found that out as well while playing, but I'm not yet sure why the only thing I changed on the honeycomb is "bears consider this as food now." I'm on it though.

For some reason with this mod installed, I couldn't squeeze honeycomb in a bucket anymore. When I deleted it, it worked again.

Oh this is perfect, thank you for the update! And now with 1.21.x, I can be a bear warrior with the armor set AND a bear pet.

Shava I have to think about Wojtek as well. I try to have it balanced out. It is really hard to catch a bear to tame it. You have to feed it multiple times, and it will always try to hit you. bears are really big and you have to build wide tunnels if you want to bring them with you. I guess all in all it made sense.

Hi! As a huge bear lover I adore this mod! Was able to capture a brown bear in a pit but had trouble feeding him. It only worked when pressing ctrl before releasing it. But since I tamed him enough to name him, that combination of buttons made it go into commands and now I'm completely unable to give him food. Any solutions for that problem? I;m playing on 1.20.x btw.

There's a current bug where if something takes my brown bear down I can not pick him up, he also does not display the down animation, and the menu says he's 24/65 health, however he does not walk or play any animations at all.

upon further testing, as soon as a polar or grizzly bear was tamed it immediately shrunk and was no longer able to climb up snow covered blocks, and their size is listed as small. its as if the game is treating them like they are the size of chickens or hares. seems like a major issue as i am on the latest version of this mod and 1.20.7

so i ran into a problem with polar bears not eating meat of any kind and when i checked the config i couldnt find any mention of that so i added red meat to that list which was fine, but after i tamed it, i tried to lead it home only to realize that its size is "small" and it couldnt even step up over 1 block high steps with a snow layer which is super disappointing.I have no idea how to fix that and it would be awesome if you could change that somehow. really awesome mod but i probably wont bother with it if my damn bear cant even make it over a tiny patch of snow lol

Thanious thanks for mentioning it here as well (I don't get a notification on gitlab for some reason). I had that bug as well, while developing it, but it was only, when I had a mismatched version with PetAI. What version of PetAI do you have?

I'm having problems taming a male brown bear that I successfully trapped. I can't seem to feed it anything. I've tried redmeat, bushmeat, berries, honeycomb, etc. There's not even a tooltip or option to tame it. I know petai is working right with other mods, but I'm not sure about this one. I'm on 1.9.8 and am using v0.9.4 of the mod.

will the bears be able to smith in future updates? iykyk :)

I certainly hope you put breeding in next before any other features. I'm running Long Term Foods and the bushmeat would really be useful for Pemmican.

 have to update the mod to work with petai 3.0 I can't guarrantee it to work for 1.20 currently. I'm aware and try to fix it as soon as possible.

Syd yeah it looks like the male black bear just does not want to eat anything. I fed it once but now I can no longer tend to it. At least I am able to pet it to increase the obedience for now, I am trying to tame a brown bear to see if it has the same problem.

I'm back playing vintage story. I'll continue to update this mod. sorry for not being active. I gues everyone know how it is to play a game for a while and then not playing it, but also reaaaally having no motivation to keep a mod updated for a game you don't want to play rn.

The bear behaves strangely after being tamed. He sometimes goes into the water and drowns there.

I really like this mod and I hope there will be more development to it since armors, backpacks and saddles would really epic to have. One problem I encountered though is that after a while I cannot feed my black bears.

It seems like the male black bear spam follows you after taming and continues to run into you if you stand still, which pushes you around. It even glitch teleports though doors and i had to relog twice to get the follow spam to stop. The honey combs don't work for feeding the bear and feeding after you tame it seems pretty glitchy. The bear doesn't need to be tended again message doesn't always pop up when i try to feed it and it won't take the meat. I'm not sure if the black bears are just broken or it's a known issue or if there is anything that can be done to help fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Syd  It was a black bear, I'm pretty sure. This was two weeks ago now so I might be wrong, but I think it was a black bear. I think it was male too.

ParallelPenguins can you tell me which subkind of bear it was (black, panda) and maybe even the gender. I haven't tested with all bears (it is tedious, when they all want to kill you) and might have missed a combination.

So I got a bear tamed... and it disappeared. Fed it the last raw meat and the chat said I had tamed it, but it just poofed out of existence. I'm not sure why. Any advice?

Iver should not happen with the latest version, but I can look into it expects a version with 2 '.' and I only put "1.19" instead of "1.19.0" in one version because I was hoping it will catch all of 1.19

rayray they eat. honeycomb, cranberries, blueberries, raw redmeat, raw poultry, perfect meat petcookies and perfect veggie petcookies. I have to add edible items manually in and bears... well would usually eat everything even pandas and I haven't figured out how to do that or if I want that.

how do you feed him after taming ? ive tried many meats, now he is starving weight thin about to die

EvilToast sorry. I'm on it. I just reached the same issue. (the reason was I had to change the modid after I was done with the core and forgot to rename the part, where your bear switched to being tamed) It will be fixed in the next version.

you have to ask your admin to do a "/giveitem petai:magicbone", which you can then use to click on the buggy bears after the update to fix that behavior.

I've been having some issues, when the bear gets to 100% the naming prompt doesn't appear and it doesn't tame the bear, it still attacks me. I tested the polar, brown, and black bear and it's the same thing for all of them. No other mods except pet AI (v1.19.3), does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? :o

As much as I hate bears when I attempt wilderness survival hardcore, if I manage to survive long enough and tame a bunch of bears... Its gonna be awesome!

XurxoMF there is a taming guide in the Book and yes you have to "capture" an adult bear. Yes it will hurt you, but then you have a very strong ally in the end.

How can you tame bears? You need to fed an adult bear or a bear cub? If the second one... you've to buy it like wolf pups or you need to find one?
