Please also check out XV Shaders which makes smoke soft and round!

Every update has important changes. Follow to stay up to date!

Performance:

Fixes:

Doesn't it feel odd that there are no consequences to having open firepits indoors? Are you looking to up the realism factor? Real Smoke is here to provide a slightly more hardcore experience.. fire sources produce physics-based smoke. This is not merely a particle effect; the smoke will rise, spread, sink, move around obstacles, and blow in the wind. But it will also necessitate that many of your workstations be placed outdoors or given a proper chimney, as the smoke is not only a nuisance but can build up and put out fires, or even cause suffocation to players!

Yes, it is safe for existing worlds to add or remove Real Smoke. Before removing it, please first use the command "/realsmoke disable" to despawn the smoke entities.

If you're wondering about performance impact: it's probably far less than you would expect. Give it a try.

What does Real Smoke change?

Want to know more about the Smoke?

The smoke is actually a type of "entity" just as a creature or player is an entity, but its movements are directed by physics. You cannot see the smoke entity, only the particles that it produces. Smoke has physical properties: amount, temperature, carbon, moisture, and unburnt particulates, which are determined by the fire that produced them, and they change over time. So if you pay close attention to the visible particles they'll tell a story about where the smoke came from & their journey!

More Torch Holders

NDL Wooden Torch Holders 2.0.0+

Stone Bake Oven 1.2.0+

Medieval expansion patch 1.3.4+

Art of Growing's Firepit via this Patch

Braziers via this Patch

The pitch torch from Ancient Tools via this Patch

Decorative blocks from QP's Chisel Tools via this Patch

Is your favorite mod missing from this list? Ask its author to add a patch for Real Smoke!

Most blocks that produce smoke will require open space above or to the side of them for the smoke to be released. If they can't release smoke, they'll be extinguished in a short time. The following blocks produce smoke:

Multi-Vent?

(releases smoke at random intervals)

The smoke-producing blocks in red will not be extinguished by smoke.

The Chimney block and Layer of Sticks (yes, this is a block that you must craft) from the base game are now functional! Smoke can travel through them, up to a certain limit. Roughly 64 units of smoke per second can travel through a chimney, or 8 units per second through a layer of sticks.

Fires will send their smoke in the direction of nearby chimneys when able; a chimney is either in the column above a fire, or adjacent to the fire. A chimney is detected only if the blocks between it and the fire are not solid. The Chiseled Block Retention mod will break this functionality!

If the fire is not sending smoke in the direction you expect, go through this checklist:

The RealSmoke.json file located in the ModConfig directory. These are the config options, which are all server-controlled:

1.1.10

Fixes:

New Features:

Tweaks:

1.1.9

1.1.8

1.1.7 [ 0.8.7 is the equivalent for Vintage Story 1.20 ]

Big Thanks to TheInsanityGod for reviewing the code for this release!

1.1.6

1.1.5 [ 0.8.5 is the equivalent for Vintage Story 1.20 ]

1.1.4

1.1.3

1.1.2

1.1.1 [ 0.8.1 is the equivalent for Vintage Story 1.20 ]

1.1.0 - Breath of Fire update

Features:

Fixes:

1.0.1 [ 0.7.1 is the equivalent for Vintage Story 1.20 ]

1.0.0 - The Entity Update [ 0.7.0 is the equivalent for Vintage Story 1.20 ]

0.6.5:

Most notable changes since v1.1.5:
